Amazing lesson, so little of drum tutorials actually goes through the physical side of playing drums. Great Job.

Derek Roddy is an amazing player and seems like a really cool dude. The stuff about water and breathing is so SIMPLE yet always overlooked and disregarded yet it's SO important and really helps.

Thanks for that simple exercise of lifting both feet up. I had already noticed I had balance issues, i.e. my whole torso shifted to my left whenever I start playing double bass, because of my "kickstand" suddenly missing, and then comes back to center and I was already aware that it was "simply" a matter of a lack of strength in the lower body... that exercise is simple enough to do every now and then, even at work, so it should definitely help.

I always say this is the best drum channel ever. Thank you a lot Drumeo guys! Helped a lot cause' I always go out to play about 3 hours with no break and those tips were very helpfull.

Great tip about lifting up your feet to work on balance - I remember Tommy Aldridge talking about the same thing either in a video or an old Modern Drummer interview back in the day. Another good exercise is to play fills around the kit with your feet up. It's one thing to balance in a resting position, but a useful skill to be able to hold and adjust your balance as you move your arms/body to reach different cymbals & drums around the kit while playing.

I came to play drums. End up I learnt something new . I never once focused on my breathing. Never once realized playing drums was also core work. I’ve Been drumming for 10 years yet still so many things to learn. Thank you Derrick roddy

I liked. Not because I learnt something, I'm not a speed drummer but I knew these things anyway, but because drummers that want to go fast never know how much you have to focus on breathing, balance etc... And I see it all the time on youtube for example, when drummers that are not famous make some covers and that I feel bad for their back... Great tutorial !

Good Explanations from Derek and Of Course Breathing is one of the Most overlooked. I know! For Many Years I've always neglected breathing??As for the lifting the legsbYES Really pulls on the back. Unfortunately l stopped after I had a back injury but it is one my Exercises from Physio so I do NEEd to do it more.

Damn! I have No core! Lol! Hydration & breathing is probably the best advice I’ve seen offered for anyone wanting to pltdrums! SMART advice! RY so much! But I’m certainly going to have to do a whole lot of sit-ups to strengthen my core! Sweet advice! I will forever remember these! Kinda like teaching a kid how to cross the road! “Look left, no cars, look R, no cars, now look left one more time!” Safe! 💋💕😊

@drumeo and other experienced drummers Ive been playing for 12 years, I played w/ the wrong technique for 4 plus in my right arm, 8 years later, my weak hand/arm has a better flow and im breaking down my right arm by playing slower and hopefully build it back up, is it possible to "reteach" the appendage thats dominant and has problems or am I just fucked? lol thanks guys

Roddy very helpful I’ve never seen someone look like they are meditating whilst playing a blast beat... Almost seems too nice for metal should be more of it...:)

He's a fidgety ADHD-ish super-cheerful guy. Totally uncool for a metal drummer, which, I think, is super cool, especially for a metal drummer. :) He just moves more and talks with his entire face, plus he's doing quite a bit of the posture thing, instead of the typical throne-slouch. Important, I think.
