One thing I feel rings completely true in what he says is the "If you want to be able to do it, you gotta do it" thing. Sounds stupid, but I had been practicing blastbeats on and off for several years with little success until I started a Grindcore band with a couple friends and I just had to do blastbeats for it to be considered Grindcore. Still work to be done, but by "just doing them" I have kinda taken the fear of failure away from blastbeats and have fun throwing them in our songs.
@bladelazoe8 жыл бұрын
I'm suffering from the same thing, I love blast beats but I just have not been able to get them to the speed I really want to play them at, but his concept of play a song 5 times in a row from beginning to end, consistently every day is something I'm gonna do and see how that comes along. I feel like "I just do it" is the right mentality here.
@acidrain8125 жыл бұрын
Justin Powers 2 years later, how are your blasts?
@bladelazoe2 жыл бұрын
@@acidrain812 Totally forgot this comment, their clean at around 160'ish but I always kept '"Practicing" vs stepping into it and exposing my body to that type of speed. I had a moment tonight where I finally understood what "I had to do it" meant. I've been practicing all kinds of technique on and off for years and finally decided to say fuck it, Put Angel of death on KZbin player, put on headphones and just GO. It made me realize something, just expose your body to that tempo/song for awhile and your body will adjust. Even if your super sloppy and terrible, just play as much as you can. Just like failing on a certain weight at the gym, your body is learning to adjust to that weight when your recovering. Same with speed. I did this with another song awhile back, Ghosts "Dance Macabre". Simple song but It took me awhile to get it, I applied to same method, 5 times in a row every day. Each day improving more than the last.

pugmonzzz For me it depends on the trigger sound. If it's an over-the-top click sound, I tend to dislike it (like Decapitated's Nihility), but in some cases even a clearly triggered sound can be appropriate and cool. Aeon's Bleeding the False on the other hand has a very distinct trigger sample and I think it only adds to the character of the album sound. I use the Alesis DM5 with what Gene Hoglan called "the only usable sound in the entire module" (paraphrasing) and it serves its purpose for monitoring and hearing my bass drums clearly during band practice. It's a decent sound if you can tweak it a bit further with an EQ, I think.
