I think the wallpaper trick was great, the wallpaper itself was lovely, and the carpet was beautiful. But I can't *believe* this space was put together by a "designer". It's chaotic, those disparate elements clash, the throw at the end of the bed is SO discordant, and she did nothing to improve a bad layout. Nothing about this says "polished entrepreneur".
@NextToToddliness2 жыл бұрын
I was going to post something similar. Though it's cute and functional, it definitely isn't as cohesive as it could've been. I think New England Beach House can be a classy aesthetic, but it just doesn't look like a 30 year old's room. If she had built the room around the backboard of the bed and made the space a little more rich & sophisticated, I think it'd make a thirty-something happy. A cobalt & gold wallpaper would've drawn the eye to the nook, instead of making it look out of place, and lent itself to a Moroccan or Greecan vibe. Throw some pictures from either of those countries or some minimalist art with gold in it, and you've basically changed the whole feeling of the space. Instead that poor girl got a frumpy, watered down Laura Ashley meh.

I think my main concern was the designer didn't use Cassandre's art as a focal point for any of her decisions. She had some really beautiful artwork, like the woman with flowers in her hair, and also the bird painting from when she was in 6th grade. They are the most unique and telling of her as a person, yet I think neither were factored into the color scheme and it made them fit poorly into the new room. Feels like a subpar job.

Designer here. I’m not sure why the designer would hang the curtains so close to the ceiling and not do the same for the bamboo shades. They were an outside mount, so the shades should have been hung higher because retracted Roman shades always hang down a decent amount. Those shades actually visually stunted the windows and hindered the light coming through, making the room feel darker and smaller. I would recommend hanging them as high as possible so when they’re retracted, the bottom of the shades just barely conceals the top of the window frames. This will make the windows appear to go all the way to the ceiling and it’ll let in much more light.

Tbh I disagree with a lower bed, because that’s valuable storage area that can’t be used with a low bed. On that note, this designer doesn’t seem to think of practicality when it comes to a rented place. The existing light was actually fine, and it means you have to put it back when you leave, as well as repair the wall where you screwed in the mirror and blinds. Also, a good vanity area has a large standing mirror, not a smaller wall mirror. It makes it rather difficult to do anything in said vanity if it’s small. Also, my other gripe is pattern clashing, if you have one floral, only use that one, and if you have any other patterns they need to be more soft, also that chair at the vanity should have a back, not just be a stool. My last thing, the colors aren’t the best together, While I love a good accent color, the tones are all over the place, cools clashing with warm oranges and pinks. Also, the nailed up wall decorations, and the floor length curtains dragging the floor, it makes it harder to keep clean

Absolutely, also it looks like she won’t be able to see herself in the mirror if she sits on the stool - The stool is too low/the mirror is too high. The practicality of it just doesn’t work
@athenarocks76572 жыл бұрын
@@siom3815 that really irritated me! Also, if she’s going to choose a mirror that shape and height, why choose a lamp that overlaps it that much. I also just think she wasn’t successful in mixing patterns, geometry, or colors. The bed frame is the only hard, rectangular shape and everything else is “soft and feminine”. That doesn’t look intentional when you only break the pattern once - it looks like a mistake. Same with the mixing metals. The only silver is on the bed and everything else is gold.

C-, college dorm style. The "reds" in the duvet and wallpaper are not complimentary. If one has a vanity, the mirror should be functional as well as pretty. Bamboo blinds could be mounted at ceiling height to avoid blocking any light. Why emphasize the fact that the bed is too large with a dark headboard? Framing wallpaper samples? I should stop, but that cheap rug... Does AD stand by this technique of applying wallpaper? Blue tape is designed to be removed shortly after application and no more than 14 days.

as a first time homeowner i am looking to AD for inspiration on how to design my new space. however, having 3 hours to redesign a space seems like an unnecessary and irrelevant constraint. i think instead of a time constraint, focusing on a budget constraint would be much more helpful. you could do a series where you redesign a space at three different budgets to give people an idea of what can be done with high, medium, and low budgets. or make it client based, like in this series the client can say "this is how much i could afford to spend on this" and let that be your constraint. despite the lack of personalization that the other comments on this video complain about, i appreciated some of the practical tips she gave like how to install temporary wallpaper, how to make the ceiling look higher, and the cheap art tip. i hope you'll take these suggestions into consideration as they would be really helpful for me! currently, the biggest series you guys have are the unlimited budget 3 designers redesign 1 space series and this 1-3 hr makeover series, neither of which are very practically applicable by the average person. thanks!

@@hannahlanai It won't damage anything. I did a bathroom and became obsessed and did my whole hallway with it. I would've like to see them try a new layout. I dislike the way the bed covers the windows, but you can't really downsize the bed without making it impractical and look immature. I can't guarantee that my ideas would work, since I don't have the measurements of anything, but maybe putting the bed in the nook? That way the windows aren't blocked and the dresser, bed, and desk aren't in the way of each other? Though that might create a weird space at the footboard. Or maybe putting the dresser in the nook? I imagine in the current layout that the drawers might hit the bed. So putting it further leaves room to fully open them. Or putting them on the wall with where the meditation space was. Also under the bed storage is a MUST! They might even have been able to replace the dresser with that, leaving space for her to actually have an ergonomic chair. She's an entrepreneur, she's going to work long hours at a desk. The stool is cute and would suffice for a vanity, but after the 1 hour mark it'll start causing some discomfort.
@NA-du4sf2 жыл бұрын
Rather than a meditation space, a bench at the foot of the bed might be nice. It wouldn't be as practical as a dresser, but it could provide some nice storage, maybe for sweaters and jackets. Basically, adding the bench provides seating space and storage and could help her downsize or eliminate the need for a dresser, allowing the room to have more space to maneuver through it.

All rentals I lived in did allow me to drill in walls and paint them though

I would have wanted a bigger rug and placed it partially under the bed?

I really like the touches the designer did to this rectangular nothing room. She did a great job transforming it into a comfortable attractive living space.

Really nice choice with the bed frame and headboard... opening up that window makes a big difference. The blue is gorgeous.

I like it. I think the room was a difficult shape and size. It’s a lot better than it was.

I love how bold she went with the colours and love how she explained her decisions.

I love the room refresh series! It's exciting to see the creativity and improvements with the challenge of time/situational limitations

It's an upgrade, but I think I would have used Cassandre's artwork as a starting point for color, connecting the wallpaper, bedding, area rug, and lighting elements throughout the room...perhaps even refinishing some of Cassandre's furniture pieces in an inventive way using water based stains that tie the art into the furniture more, but keep it mature and elegant. Still, that renter friendly wallpaper hack is top notch. Great job.

I learned a lot from this video! Gave me inspiration to spruce up apartment while renting and be ok with making changes that help rented apartment feel more “mine” Enjoyed, thanks!

Should we talk about having to remove the door to fit the carpet and provide an entrance?

I liked the before version much better. But the wallpaper hack - not the wallpaper - was interesting.

Only think I'd add is a nice white bench at the end of the bed to tie in the desk, maybe with a blue velvet cushion of a nice white cushion with soft blue pink stripes and under the bench have some wicker baskets that match the blinds to thie that in as well and also add some extra storage space

HUGE IMPROVEMENT! Would have been nice if they made that nook functional and aesthetically pleasing. Mirror is too high to use as a vanity and the ottoman is too small and impractical to use as a desk chair.

The designer did a great job of teaching how to create cohesion in her explanations of why she chose things! The effect is charming. However, I would have made that nook harder working b/c the reality is that we do a lot of work from home. Maybe a comfier chair and some storage.

I wish someone could give Cassandre another room transformation from other interior designer. This transformation did not do justice in my opinion.

I’m dizzy after seeing what the “designer” has done. The wallpaper is quite pretty but that mirror just killed it. I would’ve framed at least one of Cassandra’s childhood paintings instead of framing a wallpaper sample.

Like the wallpaper idea, the framing of wallpaper samples and that's pretty much about it. The use of words like 'feminine' just puts me off. What's a gender got to do with a living space? She just wanted a 'mature' vibe and what she ended up getting was a mish-mash of patterns that don't quite work well even when the 'clashing' logic is thought of. The bed jutting out and just being that bit blocking the window annoys me. I'd have gone for a size that would have aligned with the lines of the window. Another thing is that I don't know why people don't put tables that look outwards if a window is available in a space. If I have a requirement of a desk and there's a window, I'd like to have it accommodated and work around that. This room didn't quite make me happy unfortunately. Intention was there, but execution left a lot to be desired.... Cheers!

This makeover definitely doesn’t deserve to be on AD. As a big fan of the channel, it would be a shame to see the standards drop
@skkay892 жыл бұрын
To each their own... but this screams teenage girl bedroom, not a grown adult woman. She's obviously proud of her heritage, they should have added that into the design plan/color pallette more. That way it ties the room into her artwork.
