This is not the typical furniture only created for one space we usually see on this channel. This is an apartment with realistic furniture many people can afford and have easy access to. It shows what you can do to a space that has a good base without stripping it completely. Maybe the nearly renter-friendly version of the other videos on this channel. 😂

I agree. Whilst I love the designs featured on this channel, they rarely feel accessible to those of us who couldn’t afford to pay for an architect/interior designer to design and construct these interiors.
@kitty_s234563 ай бұрын
I agree with the OP & @bedbug. They used furniture/ fixtures which can be bought by us "mere mortals", like IKEA upper cabinets for the kitchen, the sofa-bed looks like something from IKEA or similar, same with the bed, dining table & movable kitchen island. I liked how they all put the pieces together to create a warm & inviting space.

Thank you so much The lounge chair in the living room is designed by my husband Jeff as part of his House of Antwi African homeware collection and made in Brooklyn, and the arch chair in bedroom is locally sourced as well. Otherwise the sofa bed is from Article and dining chairs from TJ Maxx - so I would say a balance in artisanal, locally sourced furniture and some of the high street brands. 🧡🛖

Thank you dear 🧡 And I think over the years growing up in major cities (Me first in Lagos, Nigeria then London, UK and Jeff here in NYC) there’s kind of this two paths you take: complete hoarding and chaos from acquiring all the knick knacks you can score locally from living in such density and having access to everything at your fingertips 😅, or you forcibly become a minimalist, or what I like to call “intentional use of your resources” so you can live a bit more intentionally, sustainably, and stylishly in the choices of items you buy and keep at home. I’m blessed to have met a partner with a similar mindset 😌🙏🏾

I am African and the title drew me in but all I see about the Afro is just the beads on the table, is all. Mahn I had high hopes for this because I love Scandinvian and Japanese styles, I was so waiting to see the fusion with African elements, escp once she said she's Nigerian coz West-African cultural elements are profound. Oh well...

My bad, the beads are not even African, they look much more like what either Indian or Budhist monks would use because we don't use have such rope or twines with our beads, and West African beads are mostly colored, very rarely wooden. The only thing African about the house is themselves, and I guess that can count. Actually even for the rest of the style it's much more of a well-designed space with furniture pieces that have elements of Japanese and Scandinavian(at this rate I doubt if I have actually seen anything like that again-the style is much more of modern minimalistic than anything afro japandi, sigh). And yes again it is a well done space but it lacks the elements in terms versatility and innovative storage solutions that this channel is good for. Well, it's a well designed small space, I guess that will pass

@OyinAntwi , I'm familiar with Bed Stuy, so it heartens my heart to see Brownstone renovations. Truly one of the treasures of Brooklyn. As an old Prattie (designer), you and your partner did a great job. Good luck to you both.

@@rolandcharriez7631 yes! Mixed feelings and my husband I talk about this often - growing up in London and now living Brooklyn, there’s this dichotomy of feelings I have where I’ve seen these traditionally working class and oftentimes historically black and brown neighborhoods with beautiful brownstones, limestones, and row homes being affordable now only to the super wealthy and oftentimes white homebuyers. As you know, these row homes in Bed Stuy now go for upwards of $2million and may STILL need renos, and only they really are able to afford the restoration of the original architecture and design. While the supply and demand issue for the working class is leading to developers converting one row home to a 4-6unit condo building where we now can only afford a piece of the pie and do our best with it to add character and design. So thank you for knowing this is worth recognizing how we can still bring beautiful designs even in these smaller footprints of what was 🧡🛖

There is something wrong with the dimensions of this apartment. It looks like they included the terrace dimensions here, the apartment itself is no more than 40 square meters.

Agree.. everything looks too small. For 50 sqm, I expect 2 bedroom or 1 bedroom with spacious living space.

This house goes to show not a lot of change is required to make it more functional. And definitely a small home where you can sit, sleep and enjoy comfortably :D

Exactlyyyy 😌 Creating a ‘home’ has less to do with size and more to do with intention 🧡🛖
