Up until now,there's no information about bows except for getting a glimpse of its Perks. I'm not sure if anything changed about its usage,but I hope they replaced the horizontal movement of Henry's aim while at full draw. I think it would be better if the sway is confined to a circular area instead,which should make things more realistic and will be in-line with him already having experience being an archer,but partially lost his skill due to a shoulder injury.

When shooting a bow in real life as a beginner, you'll typically blunder your aim in one or 2 directions. Almost nobody sways, and nobody at all sways in a circular motion. The side to side is somewhat realistic, and the most realistic miss pattern would be up and down

It makes sense that a crossbow is more user friendly to aim What is less clear is why anyone would use a bow - unless we're talking about a massive weight draw longbow, it's not going to be better than a crossbow damage wise. Maybe reload speed?
@DJWeapon8
@DJWeapon8 21 күн бұрын
@@patcoghlan3852realistically and generally speaking, bows impart more energy into the loosed arrow than crossbows because the string has more contact time with the arrow. So bows would have farther range and less damage falloff at longer ranges. While crossbows are generally easier to use. Being quicker to reload, able to hold the draw practically forever in a short engagement, and more handy in close quarters.

@@DJWeapon8 I could see that for longer ranges. Crossbows had the ability to do real damage to people in armor, though Admittedly I don't know much about the ballistics of it all, but from a gameplay perspective, I could see it as crossbows being better for armored enemies up close and bows being better for less armored opponents, sort of like how swords vs maces worked in KCD1
@declancampbell1277

@@DJWeapon8 quicker to reload is debatable, especially considering the type of crossbow to go through plate is a heaving contraption of a thing. From what we've seen thats shown in the game too. I can imagine the lighter crossbows will have less damage than the bows due to lower draw weight and fast reload time, whereas the larger crossbows that take an age to reload will have oneshot potential at the expense of only being able to use it once or twice a fight. Those particular ones (windlass) might also actually be better at longer ranges too to offset that, because the ease of use makes them more predictable and the power behind them is insane. and because of that longer engagement distance you might be able to pick off 2 or 3 opponents before resorting to your sword. At least thats how i'd balance them for a realistic but fun use.

In a arecent interview Viktor Bocan, lead combat designer talked about master strikes. Essentially you have to attack into enemy's attack from the opposite direction enemy is attacking you from. I kinda like this as it is pretty risky move. At the same time enemies shouldn't be able to master strike you if you are careful enough.

Hmm, okay so from what I've read, on IGN I think, having your stance be opposite of the incoming attack is outright penalized in KCD2. In KCD1 the difference exists but is negligible, I expect it to be more pronounced now So while perfect and normal blocks benefit from mirroring your enemy's stance, a Masterstrike in KCD2 is done from the penalized small-react-window side, and unlike KCD1 it doesn't turn into a safe block if you fail the Masterstrike but instead you get hit so it's much riskier. At the same time an advanced enemy can be prevented from Masterstriking you by mirroring him and focusing on ripostes, so no longer annoying RNG penalizing you at random for daring to press Attack once

I thing dev said you need to srike from opposite side then NPCs to perform Master strike, basically you block their attack with your own in the right timing and on top of that you hit them. Therefor this move is more dangerous for you to perform
@DJWeapon8
@DJWeapon8 20 күн бұрын
Hopefully this is the case. Pressing both Attack and Block rather than just Block like in the first game is barely a challenge. Needing to go into the opposite stance as your opponent *is.* This also sets a precedent to make enemies' masterstrikes _fair._ Whereas in the first game enemies can masterstrike ANY melee weapon attack you launch at them, with the alleged new system *enemies can also only masterstrike you if you attack in the opposite stance they're in.*

When the dev showed the combo tab, all weapons has 2 combos unlocked and 2 of the combos they revealed for one of the weapons shows Lower right/left strike. I assume it's the same for every weapon. 10:11 I'm certain this happens by accident. Masterstrikes seems to work like this: Short timing window, mirror the stance and then press the attack button at the correct timing instead of block button. It's risky because if you fail you get hit completely undefended. I think the player here was trying to masterstrike but AI switched stance and attacked, but he got lucky and his hit was faster, it happened in kcd1 aswell.
@DJWeapon8
@DJWeapon8 21 күн бұрын
They need to fix the enemy attack animations first if they plan to implement masterstrikes again and would use the Better Combat and Immersion Compilation mod mechanic for it. In your timestamp, *_the enemy instantaneously switches from his left stance and immediately goes into the attack animation for his right stance._* So unless this is an actual mechanic made to "throw off your aim" for masterstrikes and force you to perfect block/block instead but at the cost of the enemy only dealing low damage to Henry if it lands cleanly, they need to fix it by *always having the enemy go through the animation of switching stances first before attacking.* Because how the hell can any human, already disadvantaged by input lag, even respond fast enough to recognize that, adjust aim to mirror the stance, and press attack to masterstrike that?

Is it just me or does kcd ii combat look slower, like there are little pauses between moves that seem to interrupt the flow of combat as compared to the first game. Is this just because of play style or is it just baked into the game. I liked the first games combat so seeing that 2s combat will be in slow mo kind of bums me out. Hopefully it won’t be that way when it releases.
@zxxxxxz67zxxxxxz54
@zxxxxxz67zxxxxxz54 21 күн бұрын
What? It's completly oposite, first game had a slow motion effect on strikes, and the second one doesn't. There are little pauses, as you say, but they exist due to a reason that the player is no longer attached to the enemy, and both can move freely. So there is a need to do a little pause to "attach" them toger when the hit is about to be landed.

Has there been any confirmation of dagger use in combat? As in maybe having it in the off hand in place of the sheild just like the torch? Or any combo that includes it as a finisher? Or does it seem to be strictly for stealth combat as in the first game.
@DJWeapon8
@DJWeapon8 21 күн бұрын
I'm not knowledgeable on the subject, but as far as I know Parrying Daggers and the concept of "Dagger on the off hand in a fight" only came about during the very late Medieval period and would only became popular during the Renaissance period. Which means KCD2 is about 100 years too early for it. Though I would like it if finisher animations would include "Dagger to the throat/eye/armpit" if you have a Dagger in Henry's inventory. Finishers like what I'm talking about are different from Mercy Kills that KCD1 has. Finishers are like Deathblows in Sekiro. Attack a dying enemy and a quick animation of Henry efficiently dispatching the enemy with his weapon by deftly striking unprotected vital areas plays out. Lasts 4 seconds max. Having a dagger in Henry's inventory would add a 3 new finisher animations (stab to the throat, eyeslits, armpit gap) with each having a 25% chance of occurring.

Mechanically? Higher damage, _probably._ But that's about it. Hopefully they actually playtest this time and make melee weapon ranges an actual mechanic in combat. As much as I love RPGs and how Character Build dictate your playstyle, I gotta agree with you. KCD really shouldn't have been an RPG with the type of game it actually is. A much more interactive and immersive fiest person "GTA/Red Dead Redemption style" open world game. What with Henry having his own personality. Linear main quest and quest designs. Limited dialogue options due to its cinematic focus. And heavy focus on combat in the gameplay loop at the expense of Stealth and Diplomacy. Add the fact that KCD2 is a direct sequel that continues right where the previous entry ended during which Henry is already a decently trained and combat experienced man-at-arms in-universe. Then Henry shouldn't have stats that improve and dictate gameplay anymore. Progression should be more like in most games. Purchasing/Looting more powerful equipment, learning unique gameplay mechanics from specific NPCs, and greater world interactivity in the vein of Red Dead Redemption 2 like they've already shown would be much more impactful to the type of game it has become, now.

@@freestyler7117 and yet the vast majority of quests involve combat, especially random encounters. Compare that to how many quests and random encounters you can solve with stealth or diplomacy? Face it. KCD1 isn't really a good RPG. The "RPG elements" like improving stats from literal ZERO don't add to the overall experience. It actually makes it extremely clunky and borderline unplayable at the very start. *_Unlike most actual RPG's where they force the player to create a character with a somewhat decent build at the start for most of the playstyles that the RPG offers._* Different stats also don't really play much into changing how a quest progresses or ends especially the main quests. At best, most "choices" in quests are a "5 doors but all open into the same room" type of deal. And whatever "depth" the combat has is made irrelevant due to Masterstrikes and how its implemented, as well as the problems with making a 1v1 duel focused combat system, but then the game pits you against 3 or more enemies per encounter. Then there's the fact that KCD2 is a direct sequel starting almost immediately after the first one. That Henry has an even more developed personality independent of the player's control. And even greater focus on combat encounters.

@@DJWeapon8 I literally just completed the game today after putting a 100+ hours. Most quests give you multiple options to do things. I spent most of my hours not even using my sword. Being a good Henry when I could've been a asshole. Stats play a huge role in the game overall. There's a lot of options you would miss otherwise and it has a direct major influence in combat. Master strikes are way less likely to happen if you have higher stats for example. You win clinches based on stats, perks, and the fight situation. There's a lot of numbers that matter. All those things are huge RPG elements so I think you're really misremembering things. When was the last time you played this game?
@DJWeapon8
@DJWeapon8 18 күн бұрын
@@freestyler7117 what difference does asshole Henry and goody two shoes Henry make in how the quests play out and how they end? Or by just following the "normal" path in a quest rather than using stat checks? As for the combat: Masterstrikes make the combat a boring slog because Masterstrikes are a special type of counterattack that is *_unblockable, undodgeable, and unpredictable, and deals high HP damage that bypasses the typical "stamina first before HP"_* damage model that the game has. This means the other melee weapon combat mechanics: >Feints >The first 2 to 4 attacks of attack combos >Dodge attack followups >Attacks from behind >Different weapon types Are all *USELESS* because enemies have a high chance to simply shut them all down with masterstrikes. Forcing you to abuse masterstrikes and spam clinches to make combat encounters *tolerable.* Then there's the other problems with its melee combat. • Despite being designed for 1v1 duels. The vast majority of all combat encounters both in quests and especially in random encounters are all against 3 or more enemies. • The game forces you to automatically "soft" lock onto an enemy during combat. Which in actuality has you stare directly at an enemy at all times during combat. Switching between targets during "soft lock" is done by moving the camera. But weapon angle and camera share conflicting controls and the game prioritizes weapon angle before camera input. Which means you're wasting time fighting the controls for your weapon before you can even move the camera. • Switching between targets during actual HARD lock is done with one button. Which means you have extremely limited control to who it will lock onto. • Movement speed during combat is arbitrarily restricted to a slightly brisk walk. • Dodging is a contextual control, not a manual control. Being able to activate only when an enemy is in the middle of an attack. But dodging offers virtually practically no advantages if successful due to enemies still being able to dodge, block, perfect block or masterstrike your attack, while failing you expend stamina and get hit. Which means its useless. • The only reliable way to get out of the "soft" lock is to sprint. But sprinting renders you vulnerable to being tackled by enemies and getting hit at least twice. But you can only sprint going forwards of where your camera is towards, and worst of all the game DISABLES THE DEFAULT CAMERA CONTROL WHEN SPRINTING and sets it so the camera only follows your movement control. Add in the auto lock where the game forces you to look straight at an enemy during combat and with the "stamina first before HP" damage model, means that you lose stamina when sprinting, forced to sprint almost always into an enemy, where you then get damaged from attempting to escape. Which means you're screwed if you have to sprint. All of this renders any stat improvement a moot and useless mechanic.

Coupled with the Enemy HP being purple while Henry's HP being red, which are right next to each other on the color spectrum wheel, makes them blend together when you're not focused on looking at the HUD. Making it look like Henry has more HP than in reality. My suggestions: • Swap Henry's HP bar to the left and the enemy's HP bar to the right. • Make it longer. But not too long that buffs and debuffs icons go offscreen.

The only difference would be MS requiring 2 button presses and not being protected if you fail (hopefully) by standard blocking. And the added input based dodging also makes combat much easier. I doubt they’ll scale endgame enemies to be tougher if the first game is anything to go by. It’ll take a quick few hour session for me to get used to most weapons timings. As I stated.
