Thank you! I’m trying to do some how to videos now in the summer since everything slows down a bit with the shows. It’s just so hot outside that doing videos is very difficult. If you look at my last what’s in bloom you can see my exhaustion from the heat. When I was done filming I had to run inside and rest in the AC.

Very nice!!! Your orchid house reminds me of mine when I lived in Miami. I've been growing orchids for over 40 years. I now live in North Carolina and still grow orchids, but also native plants, thus putting orchids to the side for a bit. This video has inspired me to do more with my orchids. Thanks you for this video. I left Miami after Hurricane Andrew and remember going to the Fruit and Spice Park for the orchid festivals.

Nelson, your orchid gallery is WONDERFUL as is your collection. When you say you water every day, are you referring to the potted cattleyas also, and is it because they are potted in lava rock? I pot in a mix of leca balls/coconut husk/charcoal/sponge rock and was told to water only twice a week with that mix. I am very tempted to water more often. Thanks for providing such great videos.

Great question, I also live in south Florida and it’s been so hot with very little rain in fact none in days, I started watering bare root orchids 2x a day but wondered about the Catt & others in pots.

All watering is based on your environment, medium being used, type of orchid, temperatures, humidity, and drainage amount. There is no one way to water all orchids. I have fine tuned the care of my own orchids through years of observing them through each season. I water all bare rooted orchids twice a day. The cattleyas get water everyday, once a day. I keep most of them in lava rock and charcoal with some sponge rock. That’s my perfect mix for me. Phals get watered every other day. They are in Spag moss holding more humidity. Keep in mind all my orchids are outdoors in extremely hot conditions during the summer. Once the fall and winter set in, I reduce the watering. Also do not water if the orchids get rained on.
