An injury to your spinal disc typically refers to a condition known as disc herniation or herniated disc. Your spine is composed of individual vertebrae separated by intervertebral discs, which act as shock absorbers and provide flexibility. When one of these discs becomes injured, it often means that the inner, gel-like material inside the disc, called the nucleus pulposus, has pushed through the tough outer layer, called the annulus fibrosus. This can result in various symptoms, including localized or radiating pain, numbness, tingling, and weakness in the affected area, such as the neck or lower back. Disc injuries can be caused by various factors, including age-related degeneration, trauma, or repetitive strain, and they can vary in severity from mild discomfort to more severe cases requiring medical intervention.
The only way to truly know if you injured your disc is with an MRI. The three signs shown in this video are great indicators that you may have injured your disc.
