Advisory: if your guard sucks, go work on your jiu-jitsu first. If you’re a guard puller and are terrified of fighting on your feet, but you still want to do MMA, this video can give some solid ideas. If you are a well rounded fighter and you love awesome kicks, carry on my wayward son and watch the video!
One of my favorite three kick level changing combinations from capoeira that I use for mixed martial arts. Meia Lua de compassao, martelo de chao

Something occured to me recently about capoeira. When you kick there is a risk of falling. A lot of the level changes are basically controlled falling and you often end up in a position similar to if you slipped and fell. So all the kicks from the ground and movements mitigates the consequences of falling from a kick. If you fall you are going to land in a position where you already have experience working from.
@joseeduardopaesbarreto
@joseeduardopaesbarreto Жыл бұрын
There is no risk of falling to the ground if you use the full capoeira technique, when you kick in capoeira you go back to the base which is a wide stance base and zero chances of falling!

The cool thing about mixing modern combat sports and traditional martial arts (like capoeira) is that you can take techniques that are "strange" or "impractical" and figure out ways to make them work, turning you into a very versatile and unpredictable fighter. There are a few BJJ black or brown belts who are able to take aikido wrist locks and make them useful. Their BJJ opponents don't expect those techniques and don't see them coming. Very cool Ramsey!

I’m a white belt and I use some aikido wrist lock takedowns I learned from KZbin. It’s crazy what u can get away with when it’s not what people expect.

I'm glad you made this video! I started BJJ this year after doing capoeira for several years. After watching your prior video about capoeira being more inclined to grappling movements (with the ginga and various sweeps), I became really interested in mixing capoeira and BJJ. So far it's super fun.

Happy Thanksgiving, Coach. I’ve tried (very casually) to learn the Martello one - mostly as a kipup alternative; but it always ends up so sloppy that it would never work. So I rarely practice it, so it continues to suck. I’m sure there’s a lesson there.

As of tomorrow I will have been subbed to you for three years, but I've probably been watching for six or so. I always had a fascination with combat sports and practicing alone and gradually with friends changed my life and greatly improved my fitness and I have to thank you for planting those seeds by being a mentor, goofball, and an educator for misguided guys like me who never think they'll make it. I'm down from 280 to 212 and I'm more confident now not because of how I look but because of the discipline neccesary to reach it. I've also started going to classes and taking combat sports (and life) more seriously. I know you already know the impact you have on people but I hope this finds you well and I hope you never stop making content

Meia lua can come from many bases , if you practive speed it gets very difficult to the opponent catch it. Start training with two hands ✋️ 🙌 full on thw ground when you be doing it very fast then start instead with two hands use only one hand as base , your meia lua will gonna be twice faster .

Those kicks are used in capoeira but your butt touches the floor You shouldnt do that because it kills the momentum Antonio is not a capoeirista I think hes trying to do a leg trip or something That move (the low leg kick) is rasteira its like a sweep more than a kick And you can keep going after the compasso just perform the rasteira (leg sweep) the same way as the compasso but sweep the legs You can do martelo the same way too After the rasteira move your leg back to esquiva de frente from there perform the martelo Im a capoeirista too not trying to be disrespectful Just wanted to help and show you the easier way

I almost had a chance to become a capoeira student in 1998. However, I'll try to apply what you have shown in a sparring session, and I will use this when I am in a guard position. Thanks for showing these techniques. I am still getting out there and training.

Interesting! I always thought that Capoeira might be a nice addition, especially when you're on the ground... What makes me a little concerned though is that you seem to be wide open after the first kick. If the opponent just drops on your almost outstretched leg, this would already suck and he could be on top of you. At least that's how it looked from my perspective...

Thanks Coach! These combos would be an amazing tool for recovering from the floor if knocked down. To not only set up grappling from the floor. But to also be able to have a way to create space during a technical stand up. 👍 BTW have you seen Only the Strong? It's an amazing movie featuring Capoera.

Under unified rules (UFC rules) an opponent on his hands and feet is only considered “downed” if there are 4 points of contact. With the meia lua, there are only 3 or 2 points of contact. With the martelo do chao, there are 2 points of contact. While your head is not within kicking range of your opponent during these kicks when performed correctly, it would be legal if your opponent somehow teleported behind you and kicked you in the head while you were doing them. However: With the low sliding kick, since you are on your hip, you are a downed opponent and may not be legally kicked in the head. Under universal MMA rules (OneFC) kicking the head of a downed opponent is always legal.

Hello Ramsey, huge fan of your content. We've spoken a few times in comments but i believe this comment in particular is extremely pressing. I've recently been watching Babylon 5 and i'm shocked at how poorly humans seem to do in unarmed combat compared to the other races. What's your theory, did humans lose all knowledge of mixed martial arts or is there something more sinister at play?
@RamseyDewey
@RamseyDewey Жыл бұрын
I’ve only seen one episode of Babylon 5, and it was about a martial arts tournament where the fi a fight was between a human and a blue alien who were supposed to represent the epitome of martial arts on their respective words. They basically just punched each other for ten minutes straight and then became best bros. That was like 30 years ago, so I don’t remember much else.
