boron, have never heard of that one! I take MSM, Turmeric (with black Peter and ginger), Boswellia serrata and undenatured Collagen type 2. it has worked really well for me with the pain etc. But I think I will add the boron and see what happens! Currently struggling awaiting a hip replacement, so really struggling with the ageing joints trying to compensate for that!

What an excellent video. No hype, no repetitive build up. Just plain speaking with useful information. Thanks! We all hate videos that take 90% of their time hyping a solution and only the last 10% do they start talking about a solution and then you find out it was a commercial... not really informative.

For arthritic knee pain, which began in my 30's -- as well as more recent hip pain -- over the years I've read a lot of books and have tried about every remedy and supplement on the market. I am a strong believer in exercise for the reason that it works. But before embarking on an exercise program, I strongly recommend you purchase at least one good book on the knee and exercise for it, such as the books mentioned below. Credentialed professionals who do physical therapy for a living are a great resource. There are some of those with KZbin videos also. I happen to have a Total Gym and have found that doing squats on it and building up my knees, provided I do enough of them and keep this up several times a week, has reduced my knee pain by about 85 percent ... and if I don't do the exercises for a while, I can tell it. For additional strengthening, I use deep knee squats, hanging on to a sofa or something else to help stay stable. As far as supplements, having tried everything, I experience the most pain relief from Type I and III collagen powder, 12 grams once or twice per day; I use Neocell or Anthony's brands, in shakes; on alternate days, Neocell tablets, 6 once or twice per day. I also use and recommend Metagenics EPA-DHA capsules, 720 mg, and I add a DHA capsule with it; can be taken with or without food. Added to these I've lately been using NOW Quercetin/Bromelain capsules, 2 in the morning on an empty stomach and these help also. I am not affiliated with any of those companies mentioned. I've also found that heat works well, I use a wrap-style heating pad ... however with the exercise and supplements I don't need that very often. Knee books I have and recommend: Treat Your Own Knee by Robin McKenzie Treat Your Own Knees by Jim Johnson both authors are orthopedic physical therapists

One very important thing to note with turmeric is that it has quite strong blood thinning properties. I found this out after 'shaking hands' with a Stanley Knife and the hospital had a bit of a struggle stemming the flow. Fortunately, one of the Indian Doctors questioned me about any supplements I was taking and immediately spotted the culprit. I still take turmeric [it is very effective for me, particularly knees] but those folks already on blood thinners or who are going in for an operation must discuss matters with their Doctor before starting it's use. I have had it added to my notes at the GPs and at the 2 hospitals I regularly attend. Be prepared for a blank stare from many Doctors, as they will not be aware of this property, but a good pharmacist should have a better awareness of this potential problem.

@@differenttakethanmost Staining is not an issue if you take the capsules containing the active curcuminoids derived from turmeric. Each capsule contains the equivalent of a big enough heap of raw turmeric to flavor several family sized meals. The same is true of the black pepper extract added to each capsule. It certainly pays to take these capsules with a meal containing fats/oils, as both the curcumin and pepper extracts are oil soluble and only when dissolved can they be taken up and made available for use by the body during the digestive process. Buy from a trusted source - I use Piping Rock

Thanks for the helpful video. I must state that glycosamine has been revolutionary for me. My knees were damaged when I was hit by a drunk driver while I was bicycling back in 1990. For 30 years I suffered knee pain. I was eventually diagnosed with arthritis. By a stroke of luck, I encountered somebody in my line of work that had suffered a terrible list of injuries from a catastrophic car crash and she was the person who educated me on the benefits of glucosamine. Within three days of starting the supplement I noticed a major change in my knee pain. It was gone. I am a backpacker. I hiked through the pain for years. With glucosamine I no longer have to hike through pain. Just the same, I am interested in those other supplements. I already take turmeric periodically but it's good to know that I have to up the dosage. I already knew about the black pepper.

I had used glucosamine for 20-25 years and had the best of luck with it until ONE day it seemed to turn on me almost overnight!!! I started to get bad swelling with bad pain in my joints. I think I developed an intolerance to shell fish from it because that's where its sourced. Just Wanted to let you know.

@@tmo.48 Wow, that is fascinating. But I'm also sorry you went through that ordeal. I think I'll be okay. I grew up near the ocean and have had plenty of seafood and haven't built up an intolerance to it. It would save me money if I built up an intolerance to lobster, but that is not the story. I hope I'm not getting a bunch of pollutants that accumulate in fish. I don't eat a lot of fish because they collect things like dioxin, mercury, lead and PCBs in their fat cells. I stick to the shellfish, which accumulate less than, say, tuna or swordfish.

I am 76, on Apixaban, Losartan, 1.25mg beta blocker and Adcal. Have been on Glucosamine for years and thought it was helping, but isn't now obviously.

I’ve not come across a vlog that explains the benefits of taking turmeric, omega 3 and boron quite as well as this - outstanding! I have stage 4 osteoarthritis in both knees and have been on medicated pain killers for a number of years. I have reached the stage that alternative supplements need to be considered and I am somewhat disappointed that my own doctor hasn’t discussed supplements with me. I am about to start taking turmeric and I hope that it will provide real benefits without the side effects that taking clinical medication over a prolonged period can have. Thank you once again.

I agree with your assessment of glucosamine. I had taken glucosamine and chondroitin for years for my arthritic knee. I was never sure whether it actually helped. Then I ran out of it and kept forgetting to buy more and went for several months without it. I did not find my knee any worse without it. So in my little study with n=1 glucosamine and chondroitin did not help arthritis.

Love your program I want to weigh in on some thing I take turmeric I take a half a teaspoon of turmeric powder. I boil the water, put the turmeric in the water, stir it up and then I strain it to get any solids out of it into another cup. I only use one cup of water to boil but I put my half a teaspoon and the turmeric when I get it out of the microwave which is what I use to boil my water. Oh I stir it up real good then I strain it into another cup. I take the turmeric water add 3 tablespoons of lemon juice, 100% pure, a pinch of black powder a very tiny amount of cinnamon add that to the turmeric water and Sarah real good then I took a packet of green tea and really soak it as good as I can let it sit for at least 10 to 15 minutes then I take a tablespoon of honey. Add that to the drink stir well drink it down. Make sure you wait before you add a honey at least 10 to 15 minutes depending on how boiled the water is are you see running on the microwave? I have a high voltage microwave that’s three minutes if you have a low voltage microwave you might want to go for minutes and it works great and turmeric doesn’t do just what they say it does. It also will clean your liver out if you have a fatty liver over a small period of time with the turmeric, I add a tablet of ginger root as I drink it down that’s pill form, I take that every night and I’ll only helps my arthritis but it also helps me sleep at night ever since I came back from Vietnam I have been restless I’ve never had much of a good nights sleep not until now. Also, you might recommend that people take niacin it’s an over-the-counter supplement just straight niacin it has components in it that will relax your arthritis. You’ll be surprised you won’t have the tension. You won’t have the arthritis pain if you have moderate arthritis, I have moderate arthritis whether it will work on severe arthritis. I can tell you because I don’t have severe arthritis only moderate arthritis in my hands, my hip and my knees, but these are good items to think about because they’re worth it and that is called temp turmeric tea. whatever you do, do not take aspirin with your turmeric. It will have adverse effects and you won’t like it. I had excessive bleeding when I took baby aspirin. Every time I would go to the bathroom I would pour blood out like it’s a gallon and a half then I realize I’ve got a problem and I came to the conclusion finally with the doctors answer that stop taking the aspirin. It’s causing you to bleed a G.I. bleeding in the colon oh that’s the best I can give you sorry to make it so long. Love your program keep it up. I watch it when I can.

To everybody, you can buy cooker man, which is all you need cook a man is what does all the work you could avoid all of the other things that are involved with turmeric and just take Uckermann start with a very low dosage of the supplement and then if you need to work your way up a little higher do so, but don’t stay at a high level all the time try to stay within the medium range too much it can be excessive and you may have problems with gall stones and everything so you want to be careful and how much you use I will stay at the lower figure every day take whatever tablet at a low milligram do that every day and I think you should be all right

I tried tones of glucosamine and chondroitin, and it did NOTHING for my OA hip and ankle (past injury.) Then I started taking large doses of D3 in early 2020. (Something about a virus? 😉 ) I was pleasantly surprised when, a month+ later, I woke up to find my chronic hip pain gone, along with ankle, back, and deep leg aches and pains. Turns out that immune cells produce less inflammatory agents when 25-D levels get up around 50~60 ng. Reduced inflammation gives the joint a chance to partially heal which, in turn, reduces wear and tear and inflammation. 3 years later, my joints still feel 20+ years younger. As for Omega 3, I just eat one or two salmon burgers a day. I started doing this more recently, and it seems to have reduced BP substantially. Very nice!

Boswellia Serrata extract is also often used to relieve knee OA pain and swelling. Like curcumin it is not very absorbable and so it is best to combine it with piperine (Black pepper) like curcumin or use a formula that is known to be highly bioavailable like ApresFlex. You should make sure to look into the safety of any herbal supplement, tolerable upper limits, etc., and the quality of whatever brand you choose.

I have used DMSO since 1997 and with much success. MSM is a second generation type originating from DMSO. I use 99% pure DMSO. Dimethyl Sulfoxide! Rimso50 is the only FDA allowed type. It's 50% only. Of coarse Rimso-50 is only used for Interstitial Blastitis which is inflammation of the bladder. I've used DMSO for torn Miniscus, swelling in fingers, shoulder pain, and unspecified allergic reactions (I believe it was from allergic reaction to an antibiotic) .... I've treated elderly folks' shoulders and knees also. This is an incredible substance! The military used it for traumatic head injuries in some cases, when DMSO could be introduced into the inner skull areas to help stop, prevent, or/and reduce inflammation in the brain. FDA has balked at allowing DMSO approval since the 1960's. Mainly because Big Pharmaceutical Corporations cannot get a patent on DMSO, therefore they cannot make big money on it!

Thank you for this information. I'm relatively new to the knee osteoarthritis world, really starting to become painful in the past couple of years. I seek out natural remedies first, and have tried glucosamine with no success. I do take omega-3 and turmeric, but have not heard of boron as a supplement. I will give that a try!

Very informative and well explained video. I’m impressed with Will’s integrity and probity bc he did not recommend any particular brand. Just backed his recommendation with research. I have been taking these supplements to ward off osteoporosis and reduce knee osteoarthritis. It’s hard to ascertain the effectiveness bc I’m expecting more challenges to my body as I age. However, at this stage, these supplements do seem to help.

I have taken omega 3 supplement with a boron sup. Brilliant improvement. I would also suggest watching the muscle building exercises that Will demonstrates. Watch the exercise vids first. Then try them while watching- so you avoid the movement errors. Last avoid eating high sugar foods and drinks and alcohol- which I found generated more inflation pain.

The supplement that helps most to reduce pain and improve mobility in my arthritic knees is one pill a day containing undenatured collagen type II (aka UC-II) - 40 mg, Boron as boron glycinate - 5 mg, and Hyaluronic acid as sodium hyaluronate - 3.3 mg. I have tried Turmeric with piperine (black pepper) and Omega-3 supplements, but they upset my stomach a lot. Recently, I started taking a supplement containing hydrolyzed collagen peptides to improve the condition of my skin, hair, and nails, which seemed to be having trouble adjusting to the arid desert environment when I relocated from the Alabama Gulf coast to southern Arizona. I have been slathering on moisturizing lotions and sunscreen to protect my skin, but the improvement has been small. After taking the collagen peptide supplement for a couple of weeks, not only did my skin, hair, and nails improve noticeably, but to my surprise there also seemed to be some improvement in my knee pain and mobility in addition to that provided by the supplement I discussed above. It is too early to tell if this recent improvement is just a natural variation in my knee pain and mobility, or due to the hydrolyzed collagen peptides. Since the hydrolyzed collagen peptides supplement is producing an improvement in my skin, hair, and nails, I will continue to take it whether or not it continues to improve my knee pain and mobility. This supplement is a powder, and the recommended serving of 2 heaping tablespoons contains 3 g of hydrolyzed collagen peptides. The recommended dosage is 3 servings per day, for a total of 9 g of hydrolyzed collagen peptides per day.

I have a friend who has knee arthritis from a car crash injury, who swears by gelatine (another source of collagen) - just a spoonful a day, stirred into water. I tried it for a month or so and it did nothing for me (at that stage, I only had finger arthritis) so I stopped. However, it's cheap and readily available, so it could be worth a try for many people.
@luminiferous1960
@luminiferous1960 10 ай бұрын
@@maradall According to Healthline, collagen supplements are mostly made of a completely hydrolyzed form of collagen called collagen peptides, and these are easier to digest than gelatin, which is made of partially hydrolyzed collagen. Thus, gelatin is easier to digest than pure collagen, but collagen peptides are easier to digest than gelatin. Also, collagen peptides dissolve in both hot and cold water. In contrast, most forms of gelatin only dissolve in hot water. If one is able to digest gelatin, then like hydrolyzed collagen peptides, it may improve skin, joint, gut, and bone health.

@@maradall I just looked up the prices at my local Walmart, and computed the price per gram of gelatin vs hydrolyzed collagen peptides: At my local Walmart: Great Value Gelatin: 7.57 cents/g (based on $2.18 for 16 servings @ 1.8 g per serving) Zammex Hydrolyzed Collagen Peptides: 5.98 cents/g (based on $17.95 for 30 servings @ 10 g per serving) In this case, hydrolyzed collagen peptides are lower in cost per unit mass than gelatin.

@@eternity8811 I was taking Metamucil Fiber + Collagen, but 3 servings per day of that was too much fiber for my system. I switched to Zammex Hydrolyzed Collagen Peptides which provides 10 g of collagen peptides per serving, and 1 serving of that per day is easier on my digestive system. The other supplement I mentioned is Kirkland Triple Action Joint Health.

Great videos! I have been taking Fish oil for many years, long before I got arthritis, and continue to do so. I tried turmeric with curcumin and bioprene but it made my acid reflux much worse. I stopped that one. I am currently on a triple joint pill that has collagen, hyaluronic acid and 5 mg of boron. I’m thinking of stopping that one when I run out and just taking 5 mg. of boron. The only reason is cost. Do you think I should give up on the collagen and hyaluronic acid? I also use bovine collagen powder every day.
