What's up guys,
back with another tutorial exploring the realm of chords. A pretty chaotic topic honestly so that's why were doing this simple and easy - through Einstein Equation chords. Could not have been better.
This is a highly requested video so I thought I would give it a go!
Enjoy!
IMPORTANT:
This video has some mistakes that slipped in during the editing, can you spot them? If not, all of them are pointed out in the comment section. I'd recommend you to Google and explore why they're wrong and learn something. It's really interesting!

When I started producing I remember not knowing chords, and just making everything based on sounds. When I then listened some old tracks, I realised all of them were in proper chords, it just took me ages to find out, because I had to keep trying and changing notes. When I learned chords, the process of making tracks got sped up by like x5. This video is perfect for beginners.

Level 1: Major/Minor Chords Level 2: Major/Minor 7th Chords Level 3: Major/Minor 7th / 9th / sus2 / sus4 / Passing Chords Level 4: *Mix and Match all three levels.* The points don't matter and the rules are all made up! Genuinely surprised to see so many people thinking one of these levels is better than the other. You should be using chords from all three levels! Sometimes a solid minor or major triad is exactly what a song calls for followed by a more dynamic sus2 or add9. Mix and match!

I feel like the Level 2 buildup combined with the Level 3 drop would sound the best. The complexity of some of the chords don't mesh well against the vocal line but on their own they add a really cool variation that makes the drop feel like it has more momentum.

Incorrect or misleading information in this video (with fun time markers!): 1:21 - A chord consists of at least THREE notes, not two as stated in the video. Only 2 different notes is an interval or a double stop. 2:34 - The chord progression is actually Cmin AbMaj EbMaj Bbmaj, not Major minor minor Major as shown in the video 2:42 - True, these are diatonic chords, but how/why they are diatonic is not explained. Diatonic means that all the notes used in a melody/chord progression are in the key that the song is in. For example, if you’re in the key of C major (all the white keys on a piano) and you play ONLY the white keys, you’re playing something that is *diatonic* to the key of C. 4:50 - When we write out keys, we ideally want to use every letter name once (A-G). This is true for all the standard keys we find in the circle of 5ths. That said, the key of C minor (used here) has an Ab and not a G#, as shown in the video. If it DID have a G#, there’d be a G and a G# in the same key, which would be super confusing, especially when written in standard notation. 4:55 - Same thing as just noted above - D# should be Eb. The key of C minor is C D Eb F G Ab Bb (each note name is utilized) *NOT* C D D# F G G# A# (note names doubled up and thus way more confusing. And where’s B?) Also, side note, these are all still *Diatonic Chords* 7:39 - Gm7/D# - Oof Gm7 is G Bb D F and then over D# -- see how this gets confusing when you have a D AND a D#? It would be better to call it an Eb, which would make it an EbM9 chord Nice editing, though!

@@ryanrose2863 Initially, I agreed with you there, but I think it brings up a much bigger debate. Some of my all time favorite paintings are extremely simplistic. @kingharbubbles 4 жыл бұрын
@@bekakokoladze7594 1) a chord consists of at least 3 notes, 2 notes is an interval 2) at 2:34 literally every chord except for the last one is named incorrectly 3) the way he describes diatonic triads at 2:39 is extremely misleading, you can use diatonic triads that aren't just those 4 chords. saying "avoid diatonic triads at any cost" is an absurd statement as well, since "diatonic triads" just refers to the native chords in a key. 4) he mixes up enharmonic spelling of notes quite a bit, for example at 4:48 the G# should be called Ab. calling it G# can make it extremely confusing for people who then go on to study music theory using sheet music and not FL studio. the D# should also be called an Eb 5) at 7:37 he starts building a Gm7 chord, but when he plays it it becomes a G7 chord 6) it's clear that at level 3 even he doesn't know what he's doing, the voice leading is all over the place which is probably the main reason people are saying it sounds bad, that on top of the fact that it looks like he's just adding random extensions with little thought put into it at all and that's just the stuff i picked up in one run through. this video is VERY misleading and if a beginner takes it to heart it's probably going to give them a very flawed foundation for music theory

This video is extremely helpful. I will admit that I have been producing for almost “10 years” and have been the most hard headed person about it. I peaked in 2014 because I stopped learning. Never learned chord progression, proper music theory, mixing etc. To people just getting started, don’t make this same mistake. Don’t try to be self taught. I wasted a lot of time and now I feel like I’m starting over from scratch.

@@patryknarbut traditionally, you need 3 notes to make a chord. Two notes is called a dyad. Power Chords, (the 1-5-1) thing you're talking about are a relatively new thing, and are only sometimes called chords when there are other harmonics introduced from the distortion associated with electric guitar (where the term Power Chord originated). What's the name of a C-G-C chord? ;)

@@samuelwhite3173 If you're using quartertones then that's even more reason to stick to standards and not mix up sharp 2nds and flat 3rds. There is no good reason to call a minor 3rd a sharp 2nd. If you do that what is your 2nd note?
