Magpies are beautiful -- I live in a part of the US that doesn't have them, and they are really stunning birds. And that cow-colored bunny is too cute!

We had a garden pet crow who used to do this to the dogs, cat and chickens just for laughs. He wasn't building a nest. Some times he was tolerated, sometimes he wasn't. You can see juvenile crows do it to their long-suffering parents. He used to hide dog poo under leaves and hide in the bushes waiting for someone to dread on it. He seemed delighted when this happened. A very naughty bird who I loved dearly. He played kerplunk with me frequently.

These birds are very intelligent and while they could be doing something like this to entertain themselves or out of curiosity, it's my guess that the magpies here are trying to collect nest material (fur) from the bunny.

Nah, you never make stew out of magpies. The French make bouillabaisse out of them, but I never cared much for that.
