This guy kills me. If you just listen to Opeth and never get into who they are you would never guess Mikael is such a clown on stage. I love it!

well Smoke on the water by Black Sabbath is on the bootleg Born in Hell sung by Ian Gillian. So until my 14 years of age I was convinced it is their song xD

I love seeing Opeth and Devin Townsend live. Both incredibly talented composers and players that have some of the funniest banter. Devin and Mikel are natural born entertainers

0:58 Mikael's passive-aggressive message that Dream Theater's technical prog metal isn't his thing 😅. I get where Mikael is coming from though, his style is not about scales and speed, it's about raw emotion and mystique.
@hekoriginaljni64892 ай бұрын
That. I couldn't put into words why Dream Theatre never clicked with me, while Opeth captured from the first track
@zerohawkmanАй бұрын
Watch the full clip. He was talking about how technically proficient John Petrucci is (implying that John is a better / more technical guitarist than himself) hence the need for the hundred beers to play on the same level as drunk John. Nothing about passive aggression nor dislike of technical prog metal.
@patepulkkinenvtec2403Ай бұрын
@@zerohawkmanI know that he doesn't say it in a mean way or to discredit Petrucci or anything. I just got the sense that Mikael isn't into super technical stuff, considering that Opeth isn't 'that' technical prog metal, and that's why he made the comment about 100 beers. More alcohol, less scale excercising I guess.
@vik7593Ай бұрын
I thought the joke was more that he isn’t nearly skilled enough to keep up with Petrucci LMAO. But when DT restrain themselves they’re actually quite capable of delivering some kickass songs
@patepulkkinenvtec2403Ай бұрын
@@vik7593 I agree that DT can deliver some fantastic musical ideas, it's just that their solos are sometimes waaaaay too technical and shred-oriented for my taste.
