Came across your video. Picked up a new 2023 1290 SAS two days ago. First thing I noticed was that damn turn indicator switch. Finally figured out the down then in technique to cancel turn indications.

good review! I've had my 2022 SAS for a year now and it just improves with age! great bike, the only thing it lacks for me is the screaming 4 pot engine that I have been used to (this is my first twin).

The clutch is hydraulic not cable actuated. I’ve had three LC8 bikes now and all the same with resistance pushing around. You might try pumping the the clutch lever 3-4 times and then pushing it, to see if that helps. I also currently have a 2022 SAS. I love it. I haven’t found one thing I don’t like yet. It’s in my basement until winters over here in Michigan. Enjoyed the video.

That makes a lot of sense, I hadn't thought about the clutch being hydraulic. Pleased, but not surprised you're loving the SAS, hope the weather comes good for you soon :o)

Hi, that's reassuring to hear. I've done around 17000 km and also had no issues other than a bit of clutch slip. New clutch springs and fresh oil, problem sorted. All the best 😀

Thanks for the vids, have enjoyed and used these in deciding to go from a 19 SAS to a 22 SAS. I’ve found the indicator issue actually isn’t an issue… picked up my MY22 SAS last week and it isn’t even down and forward to cancel, it’s actually just down on the switch, no forward push required. Thumb on top of the switch and down…

loving the video SUBURB 😂 P.S how do you have the mic setup with your camera through packtalk bold or senna ?
@motocrad
@motocrad Жыл бұрын
Haha thank you 😊 I have a Packtalk bold, but I don't use it for the video. For that I have a USB Type C microphone plugged directly into the DJI Osmo Action 3 mounted on my chin. I have played with cameras and microphones loads over the years, and this setup is probably the best I've had, not perfect, but not far off. I was thinking of doing a video on the camera setup so stayed tuned 😉

That was a great review, definitely going to test drive one. My Ninja 1000SX is fun but want to see how this compares. I tried the Ducati multistrada V4 and found two negatives. Giving it the beans per se the front forks moved up and down compared to my ninja where the front wheel comes up and down. The second was how fast you spin up to 5,000 rpm but I did not feel the rush of power. Curious how that unit feels and rides.
@motocrad
@motocrad Жыл бұрын
Thank you. I never got round to test riding the Multistrada, the price and fuel range put me off but I'm sure it's a brilliant bike. The anti-dive on the SAS helps with the suspension travel and it has no problem lifting the font wheel ;) If you do get round to test riding the SAS I'd love to hear your thoughts on how it compares to the Ducati.

I picked up mine from the dealer last week, i've only done 150 km so far. The engine is great (i mean sublime...). Indicator-button sucks, i agree. First (minor) negative i came across: took the panniers off and put them on the floor. They fell over backwards, no flat surface. My BMW -panniers were more practical. The Puig screen is great, the arrow exhaust is awesome.
@motocrad
@motocrad Жыл бұрын
Nice one, which Puig screen did you go with? I've been considering Puig or MRA, need it to be clear for when vlogging although I do prefer the look of the dark smoke ones.

Just came across this vid as I’ve increasingly become interested in the 1290 SAS for completing long touring/motocamping duties on, and you’re the perfect person to ask since you mention you used to have an S1000XR, that’s another bike I’ve been interested in. How did the fuel range on that bike compare to your SAS, and being an inline 4, is it really dead until you get to say, 6k, is there any pull off the line? Maybe it’s all perspective though too…I have a middleweight naked now which I tour on, so compared to my current bike, the XR might have plenty of pull (I’m thinking hairpin turns and such and being able to torque your way out of them easily). Very informative review on your KTM btw, thank you for that owner’s insight 😊✌️
@motocrad
@motocrad Жыл бұрын
With the XR I used to get an average 44mpg, with the SAS I'm getting around 48mpg so there isn't much in it. To put that into context I'd average around 190miles out of a full tank on the XR and around 200 on the SAS. I think the SAS has potential to go much further on a full tank but I'm still very much in the honeymoon period ;) As for the XR being an inline 4, as you say, it is a perspective thing, it is a quick bike and certainly isn't dead before 6k. At around 6k it goes from being very quick to stupid quick and I never felt it was lacking. Both bikes are awesome and I'd be happy with either. The only reason I swapped my XR was because I'd had it for 4 years and the mileage was creeping up. From your comment both bikes would be a great choice. I appreciate it sounds obvious but honestly, I think you're best test riding them both and seeing which one makes you fizz the most :o) The only other consideration is if you're going to be doing any off-road, in which case I might lean slightly towards the SAS. You're very welcome for the owner's insight, all the best on your quest for a new bike :)

I have a 23 model and find that my quick shift kills the engine making changes lumpy if I don’t give more than a quick upward pressure on the gear change. I suppose I’ll get used to it but my previous bike, a Duc 950s didn’t have the same issue. Downchanges on the KTM meanwhile are much smoother than the Ducati was.
@motocrad
@motocrad Жыл бұрын
I hear what you are saying, you do have to be really positive with the upshift. Have you checked your chain tension, it's surprising how much of a difference that can make to a qucikshifter.
@pa6793
@pa6793 Жыл бұрын
@@motocradyeah it’s spot on, actually because I need to click the lever very quickly, it sometimes doesn’t shift. If I give a positive shift, the engine is killed too long and the bike slows. Maybe there’s an adjustment needed on my shifter.

Mine gives me occasional key out of rang errors when the key is in my pocket and I'm on the bike. First time it happened I crapped myself as I thought the key had fallen out during my journey. Much relief when I pulled over and it was still ther😁😁
@motocrad
@motocrad Жыл бұрын
Haha, I bet you did, losing your key when on the move would be horrible. I've since played around with it some more and that started to happen to me when I turned the ARA (Anti Relay Attack) feature on. As soon as I turned ARA off I've not seen the message since. I think the key might have something built in that when there is little movement it goes to sleep. Not sure why that would happen when on the move.

I watched this and your collection video, and we were both in the same situation. I have a 2017 XR which I have from new but I wanted a change and the mileage was getting a bit high on the XR. I test-rode the KTM and while I loved the tech I just couldn't get to grips with the agricultural nature of the engine and gearbox. The KTM I rode was 2 months old but it felt less tight than the XR. Like you, I thought about the GS but the arrival of the 1300 put me off, I don't want a 1250 that will drop in price as soon as the release date for the 1300 is announced. The new XR is too refined so I have decided to stick to what I know and kept the 2017 XR.
@motocrad
@motocrad Жыл бұрын
The problem is the XR is just so damn good, it took me 12 months to eventually make the switch. I kept thinking about changing, then I rode the XR again and thought, nope, this is still a great bike. I totally agree about the agricultural nature, but I've come to love the low end grunt. It is such a shame the new XR didn't go with Shiftcam. I'm fortunate enough to have the gen 4 s1000rr with shiftcam and the engine is incredible/frightening. All the best 😀

Are you calculating your mpg? Or are u using the tech for it? My 890 on my phone calculator gives me almost 15mpg better. Miles/gallons. My bike computer says I average 50-55mpg, my phone calculating at the pump gets me 65-70mpg, 75 if I hypermile it.

Can you tell me where you got your mount for the GPS and which GPS are you using.
@motocrad
@motocrad Жыл бұрын
Certainly, there are 2 parts to the mount, the first part fits behind the clocks and presents a bar, it's the Touratech GPS Mounting Adapter and I think I got it from RuggedRoads: ruggedroads.co.uk/Touratech-GPS-Mounting-Adapter-Above-Instruments-KTM1290-Super-Adv-S/R-2021 The second part is the Touratech Garmin Zumo XT Locking Mount: ruggedroads.co.uk/epages/00cbb604-5d1c-407e-8207-580e14387ec5.sf/en_GB/?ObjectID=39203518 The GPS itself is a Garmin Zumo XT. Since I bought it the Zumo XT2 was released, if I was starting again I would go with that. If you do go for the Zumo XT2 be sure to get the Touratech Garmin Zumo XT2 specific mount because they're not compatible.
