3 months in Uganda: lCS Foundation Week Vlog!! 🌟

I hope you enjoy this vlog of my first week in Uganda!! I worked with Restless Development on a programme called ICS. 🌻 Before spending 10 weeks on placement in a rural community, we had "foundation week" where we got to know our Ugandan and British teammates, learned the practical skills requested by targeted communities, and compounded SRHR knowledge to effectively deliver Restless' content! This was SUCH a fun (& tiring haha) week and ended with us being put in our official teams 😌
Yayyyy enjoy!! Next vlog, we head to our host homes in the Kayunga sub-county!
quick lil note: i received informed consent from everyone that's included in these videos (members of the community etc!). schools/parents spoke on behalf of any minors included in footage, and all the Ugandan and UK volunteers knew about my vlogs ;)
also!! if you're interested in international development or volunteer work abroad, I really encourage you to look into the issues around it to be better informed! I learned a wholeeee lot from this experience!!

I was in Uganda at the same time - that's crazy, hahah. I was also doing some volenteering with a Danish group of young people. It's an organisation that has projects, and we go to Uganda a couple of times every year. We have a partnership with Straight Talk Foundation in Uganda :)

Agnieszka Rękawek they have a lot of checks to make sure that the programme is right for you. You will have to go to an assessment day in London and completed day of activities to see if you are the right kind of person. But it’s nothing to be scared of, the people at Restless Development want you to succeed and be placed! There’s no harm in signing up on the website, and seeing where it takes you. Even if you are not successful this time, you can reapply six months afterwards and try again. :)

You could do an European Voluntary Service (EVS). They are even free of charge and I had the time of my life doing a year long service in Greece! :)

@@benaxon9721 idk about the uk but in Germany we have several projects that are supported by the government for international volunteering. I honestly wouldn’t do anything else as there are a lot of harmful volunteering companies out there (taking children from their families and putting them in orphanages for white volunteers is only one example) There is also a European version, but I don’t know if the Uk is still a part of that.
