I have a 10 year daughter with locs and she hates to have them retwisted. I'm a hairstylist so it bothered me at first, but now that I see how beautiful they are, I'm okay with just shampooing and moisturizing.

I’m so glad you warmed up to not retwisting...I know it can be frustrating managing children’s hair. I think as long as your daughters hair is healthy it shouldn’t matter if it’s freshly retwisted or not

Sadly, we have been "conditioned" by other black people to think our hair is not fresh or neat when it is not retwisted. I don't think I have ever heard a white person ask "oh girl when are you going to twist your roots" smh
@MissKobeli3 жыл бұрын
True and unfortunate, I don’t think it’s out of malice, I think we’ve all struggled for so long and we have always been expected to look a certain to be accepted by society at large. It’s not easy doing away with stereotypes we’ve been cultured to practice

Just because you personally haven’t experienced something negative from another race about “unkept” locks doesn’t mean others haven’t. And I can speak on this because I seen and both heard stories about it . ALSO nobody can just pinpoint it solely on just black people or whatever the cause may be cuz it’s universal all around.

My hair is coily and fine and tangles so freaking easily (which is a good thing for dreads) but that also means my locs try to marry so fast. But I love the look of frizz and volume over the scalpy retwisted look. I never comb my hair when i retwist. I just interlock loosely or twist around a bit

My hair is actually more dryer with going longer without retwisting which actually gives me more volume and puffs but my hair is naturally softer so it feels unfamiliar to me so I make sure I add moisture every other day instead of 3-5 days when its retwisted. As of now (6 months in) my hair seems to be locking better. I washed it and didnt retwist on purpose and I love it but I do seperate them daily to prevent tangling.
