All in all, you and your family have been coping very well. You mentioned my major concern; the practicality of using an electric bike in Winter, so let's see how that goes. Thanks, Duncan.

Be very proud of your accomplishments Duncan, I know that I find it quite impressive at how much you have done in so short of an amount of time. I am extremely happy that you are finally with your family and now know that you can have the moral backing and be feeling more secure footed and get ahead while those around you are there to encourage and ensure that you feel right about what you do. BRAVO Duncan. Keep the video's and your life on the road ahead of you looking bright. I am rooting for you.

You’ve done amazingly well. We moved from UK to US with many of the same issues except for language (sort of). How about used EVs? We’ve had a new Chevy bolt, didn’t like it (interior), then a used i3 loved it but had the small battery, an eGolf, loved it but again, small battery. These should be on the used market by now. We now have a M3 & a 64kw Leaf. M3 because of the supercharger network mostly. DC chargers are still a bit scarce here but getting better. Long range doesn’t seem quite as necessary in Europe now. Good luck.

Thanks for the videos. Your recent ones bring back many memories. I was at Aarhus Universitat around 2011 for an exchange study. I studied Datalogi (IT) at Katrinenbjerg. I can see the streets, the University park, buses, etc... :) Even though I studied only for six months it is very nostalgic. Since I was there, I started cycling and I continue to do so back in my home country even though there is not as good bicycle infrastructure as in Denmark - even my whole family started to use bicycles to work and we bought some electric ones as well. Right now I am waiting for the 2020 model of Hyundai Ioniq to be delivered - in my case it will be Plug-in Hybrid version not the electric one. Hope all of you will start to understand and speak Danish (I have never done that) so you will feel like at home :) All the best from Slovakia :)

Thank you for the update on how things are going....it takes me back to my move to The Netherlands 8 years ago. I agree with Chris, learn the language, if you do you also earn the respect of those you meet....I also found it helped when listening to conversations on the buses and trams...you feel less of an outsider. Keep up the good work, hopefully your old colleagues won't watch this video 😉.

Thanks. Language classes are on my ‘to do’ list and will be supported by my workplace. They run on a schedule and should start up soon. So far I’ve been trying to get a sense of the subtle but important vowel differences. My kids are both learning Danish too :)

Such great inspiration. I wish I had lived in Europe or even traveled around there when I was younger but still intend to get there. Love to cycle tour around parts of it. Good to know some of your reasons and sounds like it has been an overall great move for you and your family. I do look forward to seeing you in your own EV again at some point, yes in the back of my mind I have my fingers crossed its another Ioniq but do understand if not. :) I wish I had found your channel before I bought my Ioniq but you taught me about coasting, had no idea about how it worked or that it was possible. Where I grew up and learned to drive in Canada any sort of coasting which would have been in neutral in those days(80's) was illegal so now able to coast in my EV is fantastic all thanks to you. :) Look forward to your further adventures and videos as they come through.

Those Danish cargo bikes are nice and I’ve seen them around here in Norway. I built myself an electric fat bike to commute all weather/season although I only use it to the train station since I moved to Oslo 6 months ago. You should check out the new VW ID.3, the base will be under 30k euros.

Nice to see all of your achievements! I'm from Denmark, and if you want to test drive any Tesla, just call the Tesla showroom in Århus:) Search "Tesla showroom Århus" and the phone will pop up. I called them last week and got a reservation of a test drive immediately:) I like seeing these updates, keep up the good work! God dag

It's true. We really don't like e-mail. It is only a tool for getting things done. I read about getting friends in another comment. I have not lived in the UK, I have lived in the USA for four month, and the big difference I noticed is, that in the USA it's common to start a friendship going out to eat. I would recommend inviting people home (once your stuff arrives). We Danes tend to turn down an invitation for going out to eat, but we dont turn down an invite to a visit. We like hygge. And don't freak out. Hygge is just a perfect evening, that you cannot plan (nor can we). It's not planned, it's just a good time with friends or family. Don't watch any "how to turn up hygge" videos on KZbin. Back to inviting people. Invite those you like to a relaxed evening, probably with a little food and some fun games. You can invite to "Game Night with food" and also a glas of wine. It's much easier to break the ice, with a personal invitation where you invite people in to your life. And once you invite, don't expect the ice to be totally broken. Some Danes are more reserved than others. They may not invite you back right away. You may be the host many times, before they invite you into their home. Hopefully they will start inviting you to other things, if they don't invite you home. And once you have a relationship and your wife knows the other persons wife or husband, you can start asking if they also want to visit that restaurant you would like to visit. Until that point, it just feels to uncomfortable for many of us :)

If you don't fast charge so much the new Ioniq could be a nice choice, a plug-in hybrid could also be a possibility. Then you have the electric part for the city and the fuel engine as a backup.

Thanks. Possibly :) I’ve seen a lot of the Plug-In IONIQs around - mainly running in EV mode by the (lack of) sound of it ;)

I admire your bravery in moving out of the polluted UK to Denmark. I also admire the fact that you've made a list of things you need to accomplish. I don't know what you're up against when it comes to any language barrier? I know you'll figure this all out, you seem to be very intelligent and calm, at least on the surface. I hope to see more about the differenced between you're UK life and that of Denmark. Let me know what's in store for someone like me who's retired living on a fixed income. Thanks. Rob
@ZeroTailpipe5 жыл бұрын
Thanks. There’s a lot of mystery ahead. It seems positive that the city here, has made binding plans to be carbon neutral by 2030. A high goal. There seems to be a lot of pollution here from cars, buses, agriculture etc ... It’s still a big risk thinking even further ahead about retirement, pensions... We’re taking small steps forward for now, but I think we made the right move :)

You can just walk into any car store and ask to test drive a car and they will let you do it. If they have a test car. They are always parked outside the store so it is easy to see. You don't have to chase or plan anything
@ZeroTailpipe5 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Trouble is the dealers are dotted around here and there, opening hours are restricted, and I have to get there by bus. So it’s more planning when I have time to get to them, how many are feasible each week etc etc :)
@renebergqvist5995 жыл бұрын
The fast way to get a TM3 testdrive is to ask in the right FB group - Tesla Model 3 owners club Denmark (yes you can write in English - no problem). The unspoken 'deal' is you use that owners referral code should you choose to buy one. I can tell you it is not easy to get a test drive from the dealer people are waiting for weeks. I would offer you a test drive but I live on 'the devils island' - it is too far away and my TM3 is not a SR+. Actually the Universities are amongst the better places to be an ex-pat in Denmark - they are kind of used to the practicalities. (At least it was so 20 years ago before I was fed up with endless funding applications and emancipated myself 😉).

Really enjoying your videos, no shame in going back to a petrol car for a while, I had 2 x Nissan Leafs and returned to petrol because of the lack of choice and massive increase in cost on the new Leaf on PCP, literally doubled in price, biggest danger as far as I see it is that you sell your house and then pump loads of that money at a new car, dont do that, makes absolutely no sense to take money from what was an appreciating asset and pump it in to a depreciating one, id make sure every penny from the house sale goes towards your new house over there, having a stable and secure base for you and the family is an absolute must and your first priority. Cycling over there in the winter will be really horrible, its very cold and dark, get a 10 year old petrol car or maybe an old prius, those electric bikes you are looking at are very expensive and heavy, I would avoid those, get a cheap petrol/hybrid run around. I know many friends and families who have done what you have done, its very easy to complete the house sale back here and rent over there and not buy a place, that money from the house sale will disappear and as house prices increase will effectively go down in value, easy trap to fall in to. Ill be honest you do look very tired and you dont look very happy on these videos, I hope you are OK and you feel you have made the right decision, I dont think things are going to be all gloom and doom over here after Brexit, quite the opposite, you might wish to come back! Keep us updated, really enjoy your videos, thanks.

Modern ebikes, like the ones presented in this video are not that much heavier than an ordinary bike of the same size. Biking in the winter is the real test, but I don’t think it will be that different from northern parts of the UK (definitely not at all as bad as it is here in south western Finland where I live, and there are people riding bicycles here in the winter, even the city bikes are usabla all year around). I think testing an ebike in the winter, or buying one now and driving it as much as possible (and comfortable) in the winter is a very good idea. Good luck with everything!
@ZeroTailpipe5 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I’ve been thinking quite similar what to do with the sale money. I certainly don’t want to sink it all in something... even property for a while. Our UK house didn’t appreciate sadly. Bad timing and other factors - still better than dead money on rent, of course :) I think I looked really tired on this week’s video. I’m trying to keep up the weekly schedule even when I probably should rest. I think it helps me go easy on myself about the pace of progress - and I think they’ll be a nice ‘diary’ to look back on one day. I’m much happier here. It’s sad not to be in the UK but the university/workplace I was at had a lot of issues. Nowhere else I could have gone would have been better either, sadly... :)

Thanks! I’m up for trying a Winter e-bike experience/endurance. I think it’ll make pretty good KZbin material too - no holds barred diary of what it’s like for someone new to e-bikes but committed to trying to lower my environmental footprint nevertheless :)

You're not allowed to put your house sale on your fail list! The housing market is in a right state here, as you know, so that's definitely not a "fail" on you! Also, you don't have an EV because you're being sensible and researching all the options - so again, not a fail as you're making steps in the process of getting one. "I've bought an EV and regret my decision" - that would be a fail! Amazingly well done even just getting off the sofa and grabbing your life by the scruff of the neck and saying "enough!".

Tesla can be a little difficult with test rides as so many want one. All other car dealers just show up with out appointment and get a test ride. If you want a Model 3 test ride just ask on danish facebook groups. There are lots of owners that give free test rides to people like you. Just google. Tesla owners club denmark facebook. Or. Tesla Model 3 owners club Denmark.

Yes. This was our exact scenario when we had one :) Plenty of space for two adults, two kids. Just check whether the long shallow boot space works for you. It has room but it’s a long low loading area :)
