Please post Joan Fletcher's documentary on Nefertiti from 2003!!! I know Fletcher's conclusions in it were extremely controversial, but it was beautifully shot, had stunning music and covered the life of Nefertiti very well, like no other documentary, I believe very many people would love to watch it again despite the controversy.

@Ola_S. 6 ай бұрын
@@glikky Quite a few other Egyptologists didn't agree that the data used by Fletcher to identify a certain mummy as Nefertiti was not sufficient, that only a comparative DNA analysis of this mummy's tissue and that of some other mummy which was beyond doubt identified as a close relative of Nefertiti could be prrof that these are in fact Nefertiti's remains. And though in case of Nefertiti no such analysis is possible because none of her relatives' remains have ever been found/identified, Fletcher still faced such a storm of criticism for her conclusions in that documentary that she has never again made any other documentaries about Nefertiti.

Thank you Dr for the hours of education and thank you Odyssey for providing educational Television after a century of hundreds of channels of mind numbing garbage. I spent decades lamenting the lack of anything creative or productive on the greatest medium ever. Now, not only do you provide creative, productive, educational programming, but you do it through a witty, intelligent, beautiful , charming, captivating woman who I wish I could lavish attention on the rest of my life. Ok , while the new kingdom royal mummies (18th dynasty) may have had an overbite indicating of royal status , this is a 21st dynasty mummy ( a few hundred years later ) where the royal family have changed actual families ( eg Aye/ Horemheb moving to SETI / Rameses - two distinctly separate ‘families’ from opposite ends of Kemet , it would be highly erroneous to use any overbite as a definitive indicator of royal provenance. Better would be the manner of mummification / oils used / wear and tear of the teeth etc . I love this series but I think they are initially overextending assumptions to fit the narrative in this particular case . But very interesting !

The evidence presented indicates that the mummy was most likely from the 19th Dynasty. This would include the children if Ramses II. He outlived most of his children. So, with the fact that the mummy was in a cartage for someone else, is indicative of what occurred during the late 19-early 20th Century, when many antiquities were being sold out of Egypt and more could be received if it could contain a mummy. Such mismatching would easily be done through a person such as Mustafa Aga. An Egyptian middleman that was regularly supplying Europeans and Americans with coffins and mummies. It did not matter if the mummy was partially unwrapped. Since very few could read the Hieroglyphs, the unwitting buyer would never know.

This looks like signs of grave robbery. Maybe a swap of a body to get out more valuable jewelry. Why the body doesn’t match the coffin and the glyphs look like vandalism on it’s original occupant. If someone collapsed on a job site or the way to a burial, would they be carried out? Or buried on site? That chin condition intrigues me being so close to another skull type like Ramses, have you run across any fake beards made out of toxic substances?

I am new at researching history. Being of Arabic decent, I am curious if ancient dna is in the modern at home DNA testing.
@chriscarrol9373
@chriscarrol9373 8 ай бұрын
All DNA except mutations is ancient basically. That's one way scientist can tell when a species separated. The home kits just look for markers. Strands that match individuals that hopefully are of pure lines from a regions. It's nowhere near perfect for ethnicity. Except for finding family members linked in the last 200-400 years. It can prove paternity 100% though.
@chriscarrol9373
@chriscarrol9373 8 ай бұрын
I just realized you might be looking to see if your related to someone famous in history. Well alot of the home DNA kits let you download your DNA data file. Ancestry does and there are websites that will let you upload that file to them and they provide different services. One would be very careful who you give your DNA to just for entertainment purposes. Some sites look for medical information that has possibly saved people thru early detection of cancer. Look into it but still it's very personal information to just give out. It's your choice but there is alot to research before you do anything. I recently did my DNA and so did my youngest daughter at 18. Her grandmother can no longer say she's not mine. As Morry would say the results are in and I am the father. Grandmother had nothing to say. That's why I did mine as it had impact as to life today for multiple people.

Liquify the brain in twenty minutes? Reference? How do you know that?
@Chenihal
@Chenihal 6 ай бұрын
It is reported how long the full process of mummification must’ve taken, around 70 days of which most was spent drying the body out after the embalming process in many layers. Thus said, the process of taking out any organs including heart and brain couldn’t have taken much longer than the time being left after spending that much time with other things. Even if this might be an inaccurate estimation, considering how incredibly skilled the embalmers must’ve been after spending their lives preparing tons of bodies with such knowledge around chemistry and anatomy, it wouldn’t seem possible to think they’d struggle taking out a brain through nostrils in quite a short period of time.
@WildUtahEdibles
@WildUtahEdibles 6 ай бұрын
@@Chenihal sure but like I’m saying. Lots of “must haves” and assumptions here. My beef is with people making statements add though they are fast instead of saying it like it is. We don’t know. We weren’t there, but maybe it was like this… but instead we hear “factual” statements that are meant to teach people that this is how it was and there is no doubt. The truth is we can only guess. We don’t know exactly what they did or completely how they did it.
@Chenihal
@Chenihal 6 ай бұрын
@@WildUtahEdibles of course we weren’t there but we’re the same species therefore we can pretty much guess their intentions in many fields. And there’s much more reported than can be shown in a short documentary. I’m sure there’s more in depth research in papers by expert making this statement more clearly. Documentaries are mainly for entertainment.

There were some experiments done with unclaimed bodies from morgues . They attempted to recreate the mummification process using the chemicals and methods used by the Egyptians. Apparently, a bone at the back of the nose was broken opening up access to the skull cavity. Palm wine was poured in with a funnel and allowed to macerate the brain tissue. The brain could then be carefully pulled out in bits using a long, thin metal probe with a hook on the end. And the brain removal was not always complete as it would be a difficult and exacting process

Nr1. How could they not right away see that it was the wrong mummy for that sarcophagus? I am no expert, like them, but that was the first thing I noticed. Nr2. Who ever had her embalmed, had to find one that was willing to remove her throat. Like a “back alley” embalmer, because no professional would ever agree to do that. Therefore the shoddy work, with no expensive herb’s and such. It only had to look good on the surface.

What if Ramses II's relative were born without testes and presented female then joined the temple? Without DNA, we can't fully know the sex. I'll have to google this mummy and see if there's evidence of removal of the testes. And who's to say The Lady wasn't a Lord? Plenty of women were Pharaohs as well. Even Hatshepsut presented male in dress. Doesn't seem that odd to me -- it's quite feasible the inscriptions are perfectly accurate to the time.

She doesn't do glam shots for her documentaries so the editor just grabbed still of a shot from an interesting moment. That and she puts more stock in her expertise than how she looks while she uses it. Hope that helps. Dr Fletcher is great

Beautiful Africans. It's sad Joan had to pretend she doesn't know what she knows at rusk at being banned by racist antiquity officials again. She already confirmed Kiyas appearance and was banned for an accurate reconstruction of her face. You take one look at them you know you are looking at milotes same as ones in aswan Egypt. Mummification is african and did not start in Egypt either
