I have a appetizer recipe that was passed down to me. It’s called a taco dip. You can either use one pack of cream cheese, one can of Hormel chili with beans and one bag of mild cheddar cheese first of all you melt the cream cheese in the microwave for a few minutes and pad it down, then you add the Hormel chili on top of that and then you put the cheese on top and put it back into microwave until it’s melted. It’s fast recipe and I found it. Lots of people love it.

when i was first learning to cook my father, God rest his soul, after choking down something i had made with great pride that i had substituded baking soda out for baking powder, he gave me the best advice that i still use to this day 50 years later. He told me, " when trying out a new recipe always follow the directions exactly as they are written. once you become more experienced as a cook you will know what can be substituded for other hings and what can't, what you can take out and what you can add based on your tastes." Bless his heart he always ate whatever i put in front of him never complaining, just eating it up like it was a Christmas dinner with a smile on his face. no matter how burnt it was or if i had accidently mixed up the salt & sugar. he was my biggest advocate and gave me helpful advice. It was him that made me not give up and why i enjoy cooking for my family, why i'm such a good cook now, and why i'm not afraid to try to cook new things. Unfortunately i married the typical midwestern man, all meat and potatoes. but i always have a plan B for him if he doesn't like what i'm serving. it's called a bowl of cereal, lol

My mom had an amazing go to recipie that is super easy. Mix 1 cup mayo with, 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese (green can type works or fancy type) and 1 cup green onion chopped. spread mixture on individual sliced sourdough baguette pieces (or bigger bread slices cut smaller). Put on cookie sheet, Bake in oven 375 degrees for 5 to 10 minutes (until golden and bubbley). We called them onion breads. Super yummy and easy!

Love these type of recipes So agree with you I treasure the recipes from dear people who have been a part of my life especially those no longer here. Greater than any gift that could be purchased. It's tragic how we are losing & already lost real human contact in this world.

Terri, It truly is tragic! I found out recently that my step mother, who outlived my dad by 18 years, is in hospice in the US. It saddens me to think I haven't even seen her in the past 15 years. And being separated from family for the past 3 years with covid certainly hasn't helped. Its a blessing to have these old recipes where we can recall loved ones as cook. Take care, ❤

I will definitely have to try these. I knew a lady that had her own catering business, and she had a recipe that I just love. The ingredients are captain wafers, prosciutto or thinly sliced bacon and parmesan cheese. I always use bacon as I can't afford the other one. Stretch the bacon length wise and cut in half, then wrap a piece around the middle of a captain wafer (it will look like a bowtie), bake at 350 degrees F until the cracker starts to brown and bacon is done, immediately remove from the oven and sprinkle the parmesan cheese on top (as much as you like), eat while warm.

Back in the 60’s we had a recipe similar to your ham spread. But instead on ham we used shrimp. There was no flavored cheese so the spices we used was what we had on hand. And the cream cheese was the block. We can still buy that today. The shrimp was pre cooked and frozen. We were all poor so this was a real treat. Everybody had small children and we shared baby clothes from a friend whose child had outgrown. Wow, it was a different world then.

My best chicken salad recipe: 1 cup of leftover rotisserie chicken diced, 1/2 cup fresh oregano diced small (yes it must be fresh, dried just won't do), and just enough mayonnaise to tie it all together. What a helpful video ! Thank you ! Instead of ham in the first recipe , a skinless/boneless can of salmon , with fresh dill , is delicious !

The one I like a lot is three ingredients too: 1 tub whipped cream cheese softened, a jar of pickled asparagus drained and Pat dry, package of the thicker sandwich ham patted dry. Lay out 1 slice spread cream cheese then one spear and roll they are so good, place in container and chill

Also good with a dill pickle spear patted dry instead of the asparagus

Dill pickle spear + green onion + cream cheese is how my sister makes these. I look forward to holiday dinners at her house!

We’ve used the green part of a green onion in the middle instead of asparagus. I’ve also started putting the cream cheese in a ziplock bag, cut a hole in the bottom and squeeze it on to the ham. Tastes just as good.

Hi Colleen, these look great. All of them! Love the idea with the salami and the cream cheese and ham. You could probably use canned salmon in it too. Such great simple ideas, thanks, hope you are staying warm, ❄️🇨🇦❄️

Have always made the cream cheese spread using canned salmon. Packed it into a little brown glazed pottery jar (you used to see them in stores packed with a certain kind of cheese spread; hard to find them now). My daughter & I fill & pass them back n forth around the Holidays. Delicious! Great spread on party rye bread topped with thinly sliced red onions. We call it: Poor man's lox! (Mix in few drops smoke flavoring=Poor man's smoked salmon) Makes a really good simple appetizer for Holidays.

Brown one pound of pork sausage and drain. Mix with 8oz salsa of choice into a small microwave dish. Zap until salsa/sausage heated. Top with 12oz grated jack cheese and zap again until cheese is melted. Serve with scoop corn chips. Super yummy!
