This truly is a game only an engine could play. Calculating an attack when your opponent has two queens on the board without winning one of them instantly? The number of attacks, counter attacks, and hanging pieces that are "safe" is mind-boggling.

I'm sure some people consider engine chess less interesting and maybe I agree for the majority of games. However, sometimes they get into positions most grandmasters would avoid because they require absolute fearless deep calculations. I think this game is a good example of this and I love this kind of chess.

I think a human, even a GM is simply not able to calculate this much. In the age of adjournments and correspondence chess maybe (although even games like Kasparov vs the World where they had a full day for every single move were not this exciting).
@jlushefski

For me computer chess has actually sort of ruined high level human chess. Why do I want to watch Magnus and Fabiano play for 4 hours when I can watch a higher quality game in a few minutes? Maybe humans will move to faster time controls, and the excitement comes the intrinsic competition as opposed to the pinnacle of accuracy.

@adamwu4565
@adamwu4565 3 жыл бұрын
Stockfish NNUE is sort of like the inevitable ultimately culmination of the chess engine revolution started by AlphaZero. It became pretty clear early on that the neural nets played a different style with different strengths and weaknesses from the older engines, and that the two could synergize very well if only someone could figure out a way of effectively combining both into a single engine using the same computing resources.

@DunklerZebralord
@DunklerZebralord 3 жыл бұрын
@@MrAdamMcFarlan Sometimes it’s also just your brain recognizing a pattern without fully understanding why. I often see the best move but then suddenly don’t know the continuation even though I feel like (and later after engine check know) that the previous move was good. But that’s just your chess repertoire being built in real time. Over time all the luck based best moves and statistical oddities make way for conscious knowledge. Another huge factor is that especially in weird positions there often aren’t many good moves. If you have one move and everything else is a very obvious blunder or leads nowhere it’s just way more likely you happen to pick the best one. I think that’s probably a big part too.
