I've always tinkered with terminal and systems that come around. Here's one for you and may save you while changing out spinner baits and buzz baits! On an open bend wire bait I use a snap and split ring. Put the split ring over the open bend than run the snap in the space in front of the split ring onto the wire loop that remains. The split ring adds a small amount of rattle and gives a really quick change out time.

Great tips again Matt! There is another snap that should receive honorable mention...The Gammy G-Finesse Tournament snap, what's cool with this one is it's designed to be put on without actually opening the snap. The top wire is a little longer and you put your hook eye on it and twist it on and it sorta snaps into place. It's supposed to reduce possible metal fatigue because you never have to fully open it. I fish Scroungers a lot and primarily use either the Fas-Snap (medium 11lb.) or the G-Finesse (60lb). There's not many baits more fickle than a Scrounger to get rigged and running right and I really like those two and I've never straightened either one of those out...and I'm one that doesn't trust snaps on A-Rigs.

One thing I like to do is just add a second blade on a single split ring on an underspin. It makes the blade motion a little more uneven, allows you to use a combination of colors, and adds some clacking sound

I've wanted this video for 2 yrs. I started using snaps in practice on St Clair while changing tubes trying to settle on a color. It worked so well I started using them on all my moving techniques but I've always felt like a complete rookie with my snaps in the back of the boat. You just completely legitimized my snap usage. I will try the ones u mentioned asap. I lost a big bass and a dirty jigs finesse swimjig yesterday when the bass straightened out my 40lb. VMC Duolock snap. I was shocked. Best video ever!!!

For years I have used snaps on almost all of my lures. I started because I got tired of having my line break by getting pinched in split rings. I have removed all of my split rings and use either snaps or the newer twist lock snaps that have come out in recent years.

I do use snaps on crank baits & rattle traps stuff like that. I only use split rings on my big swimbaits because I've heard of people having them open up & loosing good fish. I haven't seen it myself. But I don't think it's worth risk for how much work it takes to get a actual big bite. Rather have all odds in my favor!!! I use nishine Lure works snaps on all hard baits and most soft baits, very few techniques I tie direct anymore. One thing I've been doing with tubes and roboworms is taking cylinder shape closed eye freerig weight and putting that on the snap itself then a ewg hook. I am of the mindset that the closer you get to the hook, the more important it is that it’s the right equipment. If I have to choose between the right rod and laser sharp hooks I choose the hook. Do not compromise with the right terminal tackle.

I would be interested in any research that has been done to prove how reliable these are. Not sure if that information is available. I fish saltwater surf alot and guys commonly use coast locks and duolocks but with some species you can't get away with it cause they see it (false albacore, bonito) . I have rarely had a coast lock fail but it happens and they are far more substantial than the examples you presented. The speed clips fail more often than I am comfortable with so I don't use them. Have you experimented with them much? I am not a fan of tying knots so if these turn out to be reliable I am in. Thanks for the video.

well they all work great...im not saying one wont fail occassionally but its rare. Although im fishing for smaller freshwater species not big saltwater fish

I've been guilty of under appreciating terminal tackle in the past, for example, using 5/0 ewg hooks for everything lol. I've learned that having a proper sized hook and the right hook for the application, gets more bites and increases hook up percentage. I can't keep all my terminal tackle in 1 box anymore. Lol subtle differences can make or break ya.

Lost crank baits from bad snaps is a sour grape for me like everyone throwing a crank all day only to toss the most productive bait in the rocks when the snap failed need some of those clear swivels, brainstorming helps everyone think differently on the water the most important box in the boat is the one you get into when you start the day visualizing your opportunities.
