My wife and I lived for two decades only 20 miles from the south entrance of the park. The many walks, hikes, and simply aimless strolls we took thru the surrounding country side came alive once more with this video. Thanks for reawakening fond memories.

This guys camera work is amazing!!! I'm not gonna lie, bc he's older I didn't expect this kind of shooting/editing. The video is unique on YT when it comes to this National Park, shows the unkown parts of it. That was entertainment and his wife being so fun on camera was awesome!

Such a cool trail, right? I always looked at pictures of the Petrified Forest and thought "meh". But I love it. Backpacking the north side was a lot of fun too. You just get out there in the absolute middle of nothing and it's so calm and other worldly.

40 years ago a friend took me to PFNP. We drove up to an area in the middle of nowhere with the sign identifying the "forest" (in a desert1), that was surrounded by a fence. It seemed pointless to try to get out and see anything. But 100 yards down the road, there was petrified wood everywhere, including whole tree trunks, on both sides of the road.

Great video and much less wind than last time ! I owe you a Taco or two as we did make it to the top of Picacho peek . The tip on the gloves was great . Blue Mesa trail is one of the most beautiful trails that I have been to. I did this as my 100th unique trail in AZ. We did not walk on the top and walked at the bottom on the paved trail. It was amazing nevertheless. Maybe we will walk on the top the next time we go there. Thank you for sharing this info.

I hiked Devil’s Playground last May, spent almost all day there and logged about 10 miles, as I wanted to see every square inch of the place, ended up backtracking a lot and when I felt like I had seen enough AllTrails route made me go under a barbwire lol. Had the whole place to myself. Have to come back to hike the other trails. 😎🤟👍

Same for us. Gaia brought us to a fence and a spot we couldn't climb down. But I liked how it was open, with no trail. Two other highpoints are the old blue mesa trail I did at the beginning of this and when my wife and I went the year before and backpacked out into the park and camped overnight.
@bobbafett7407
@bobbafett7407 2 жыл бұрын
I didn’t know you can camp there 😲, I remember reading somewhere that all vehicles must be headed to the nearest exit by 5pm. I wanted to hike blue mesa/forest trails but spent way too much time at Devil’s Playground and it was HOT! 🥵 Will definitely have to come back, this place is like another planet 🤯

Super cool video! Your filming style inspires my video style! I wish I was able to see Petrified Forest for its true beauty and just how cool it is. I went in February of 2019 and everything was snowed over with everything just pure white. I could not see the painted desert at all. I wish I did, I definitely will go back and with a channel in its infancy, I will do a video on that park. I would love to see a video on the mysterious Utah Monolith! It is stolen but would love to see your adventure! Keep doing what you do!
@JerryArizona
@JerryArizona 4 жыл бұрын
It got stolen already? I had looked it up, but wasn't planning to be in that area for quite a while. Maybe some day. And keep at it. Great you have a family getting you started doing outdoor adventures so early on. Wish I'd gotten into this stuff sooner. Keep at it. You're young. I've only been making videos for maybe 4 years? You'll pick it up fast.

@@JerryArizona Thanks! I appreciate that kind of support! I love watching your awesome videos. I LOVE YOUR WAVE VIDEO! I wanted to see it so bad but... the Blue Hills Loop was a cool lil trail. I would highly recommend Pilot Rock, judging by All trails not many people do it, but it's a good 17 miles and very remote, and you knock off the highest point in the park. Devil's Playground was ok but half the walk was boring, plus you need to get a permit and can't get it until 8 am the day of. I did the clam beds loop too and it was sorta similar to Devil's Playground

We visited there on a trip to the SW US over 20 years ago and it was on my list. Had a hilarious incident there when my wife locked the keys inside the boot of the rental car. I walked back to the ranger station to get help and he came and managed to get into the car. Then preceeded to turn out the entire contents searching for the keys and we finally found them. People stared at us, obviously thinking that we were suspected of stealing fossils!

The “Ranger Cabin” isn’t owned by the Park Service - you also do cross private property!! That’s why permits are required. Nice video of all the geological features that are in Devil’s Playground. Ya’ll didn’t even know what the park was called.

Apparently there's a pump and water storage system up there; there were instructions on how to get out a ladder to access it if you ran out of water, but we didn't. Honestly, the guy who built it had a much better understanding of off grid stuff that I do by a long shot. There was some pretty complicated systems he had set up. But yeah, I had a laugh about 'maybe you should build a staircase and deck.' But he's built at least one more off grid cabin than I have, so no complaints.

I used a Canon EOS R with a Weebil S gimbal and a GoPro 8 for this one. Love the Canon, but it's heavy and expensive. Imo, GoPro's work great. The 8 is where they really got the stabilization down where I could finally ditch the gimbal, so I highly recommend it.

Thanks! And that's a good point. I missed it when I was there, but meant to at least put in some text explaining that during the drone shots. Lots of people don't seem to care about where you can and can't fly. I get so excited when there's actually a place that it's OK.
