I LOVE the word, fuzzification. 😂 I think I do this quite a bit now within my recovery journey. I frame certain things such as early awakenings/how many hours did I sleep/when should I go to bed etc with - Whatever, zoom out, doesn’t matter in the bigger picture. This feels like it might be fuzzification. A clever word for a powerful concept. 💪🏼 Thanks as always Daniel.

I stopped caring about waking up early. Now when it happens, I just relax and rest. Most of the time I fall back asleep.

Oh my goodness, I feel like crying. This was so helpful and comforting. I am working on my black and white thinking with my therapist and this dovetails nicely. Thank you! I hope your books are on Audible.

Recently it was 3:30, then 2ish, then 11:30. I feel like my brain is fighting back. I wake up reved with a higher heart rate that I can't just relax away but maybe through a long period of deep breathing. This happened about a week ago when I got really really stressed all day about insomnia (which was actually after a non-try slept better night).

I have chronic pain which is mind body syndrome. My brain thinks if I have a bad nights sleep that I need to hurt more as it perceives this as danger. I'm trying to convince my brain this doesn't need to happen and it is gradually catching on.

great video Daniel. a question - how do these teachings (including fuzzification) relate to how difficult many of us find it to wake up in the early morning, even when our job requires it? for many years i worked a regular 9-5 and pulling myself out of bed after 2-3 hours sleep always felt like absolute torture. is there any way to reframe this 'battle' that can perhaps be more useful and healthy? furthermore, what would you suggest doing at that moment in the night when we see the sunrise, the clock hits 5 or 6am, we haven't slept a wink and yet we know that in two or three hours time, we need to wake up for work/child commitments/or other? i believe this is a thing many of us here face. it's problematic because every nerve in the body at this moment can be crying for sleep, absolutely screaming for it, but the reality of our lives means that we have to wake up. in theory it might be better to just wake up and start our day early, even in 'night energy mode', but the internal fibres and energies are screaming for sleep - usually in these moments, i strive for the extra hour or two in bed and manage to get some sleep, but feel absolutely awful when my alarm goes and the battle to wake up recomences. people with insomnia often get stigmatised as lazy - i was often 10 or 15 mins late to my office job. yet very few people realise just how difficult it is to wake up after 1 or 2 hours' worth of sleep. i feel like this is an interesting question for NATTO as a school of thought because sometimes in life there are outcomes we are attached to - like being able to wake up on time for a certain event or a job! the configuration of waking up psychodynamically and the framing of waking up after little/no sleep feels very important to me, but im not sure how best to approach it. interested to hear your thoughts - sorry for the long rambling message. appreciate all the excellent work.

Thank you Daniel. This video is very timely :) My insomnia started two months ago, and I've gone from being awake for 4 days straight in a state of hyper arousal, and only being able to fall asleep with pills. To being able to manage my feelings / anxiety before bed and falling asleep in less than 10 minutes! But I've been struggling with early awakenings at 4 - 5am and I noticed this morning some increase of struggle with what I "should" be doing when I wake up. I will take these tips into consideration and hopefully I can back to sleeping more than 4 - 5 hours a night.

You talk about rules.. but isn't there something like "what works better for me"? Like: "a timed sleep window works for me better than a timeless sleep window"?

True! In reality, we just have invitations, no rules… some things that often help. But, peaceful sleep has no requirements, so whatever leads us to not try to have control, that’s a wonderful way 😊

I'am struggling again with sleep. It improved a lot for 3 years but now i'm back again. The most import part of my struggle is when I'm about to go to sleep it feels like something I must perform like. I lay down my eyes are closed en then I have something like. 'okay now sleep'. It is absolutly stressing because I'm not afraid of staying up all night but I have like this performance drive when I want to sleep. And then I become frustrated and anxious because I can't sleep when I want to. Are there any tips for how to tackle the performance pressure?

Whether I start the day at 2am or 7am I am still wide awake at 10pm. The whole circadian rhythm concept is complete nonsense.
