When I use the shou sugi ban technique I cant help but take it to the extreme. I burn for longer turning the softer parts of the wood to ash. When you brush off the ash, the harder grain is left elevated giving it a raised grain texture. It does leave it quite dark because of the burn, but the more you sand, the lighter it gets

Daniel, your ideas are great. You asked what idea we had about putting a candle in the snowman. When I saw the snowman, all I kept wondering was how can I get a candle inside. Gotta use an led light for that, but a lot of people prefer led to fire because of the safety aspect. I like the idea of it being a little bit bigger. What if you cut a hole through the bottom and put a wooden dowl in to fill it, but with the candle on the end going in first. If you don't need to glue it in, don't. That way, you can give it a little push from inside to swap out an led.
