On one of my properties my neighbors claimed they owned my entire ridge top after I purchased. I am a local of the area and they were not. I knew the boundary lines of the entire township and every parcel in it. I had updated survey maps etc.. every year they would rip my signs down & drive their wheelers through my property. The state did nothing about this and claimed “they are too busy and not enough DEC officers to deal with it” Eventually- they attempted to take me to court.. sadly for them they had to survey their property and find out that I was indeed right and my survey was accurate. Being a landowner is the most rewarding feeling- but it sure does come with some headaches! lol

@@tylerkempfer750 I was calm at first, tried showing them the maps and walking the lines. I could have been a great neighbor- but they burned that bridge for sure. There was certainly times where I was infuriated like you said; but going to war with them would have just created a bigger headache on myself, plus I was worried they would vandalize my camp and equipment (the minute I was away) if I smacked them around. It’s been a few years now and I haven’t had any issues with them since their own survey that they paid for proved me right. They sure can...typically fences are owned by 1 party tho. Also, they can hunt the line...you can hunt the line...but also not a very smart spot to hunt when your neighbor has a road and access along the fence line 😉 Also there are many states where a neighbor can legally tell you that you can't cross the line to retrieve a wounded deer, which is another reason not to push the fence line...
@jesserolli771110 ай бұрын
In my state, if there is a mile of fence you are responsible for half and the neighbor is responsible for the other half. My neighbors threw a fit because I put a blind up on are property line not to far from there blind, and they called me a fence line hunter. I told them I'm not hunting there because it's your property line, I hunt it because that's where the deer are and why would I hunt where the deer aren't? Lol! In my opinion it's actually safer hunting that way, back to back, that way your sending bullets into your own land, not possibly across into someone else's when Mr big goes running by. They left them in their field 200 yards away and told us to go get them which we werent gonna do. Now dealing with them using on x to mark property lines, even going so far as to pull survey stakes out. They've been warned if we catch them doing it again, they are being reported. Have cameras on it now
@bross63Ай бұрын
On X is not accurate regarding property lines it shows. I found two stands on our property, one at least 100 yards on our property, and I caught a hunter in that one. He told me On X said that was part of their lease. I showed him the accurate property lines and the very clear line of distinction between the pines and hardwoods (property to our north is 100% pine planting, we are 100% hardwoods on that part of our property). On X can be good for some things, but it should never be used to identify property lines/boundaries.

I would never trespass, but posting land deters future generations of hunters. I understand it, but don't like it....
@BG-bx4eyАй бұрын
There are plenty of kids with respectable parents who hunt legally and will carry on that tradition. Stealing from other hunters aka trespassing is not a legacy any good person wants passed down to the next generation.

I had a trespassers from Pennsylvania & I am in Ohio. He put a tree stand on the north side of my property & 2 more tree stands on just the other side of the fence line(line fence). His friend said he didn't know the tree stand was on my property. I said STOP. There are APPS that say where the Property Lines are and he does know where they are. I walk around my property with a radio blaring. I had the property brushhogged so no one could hide. I now have a very loud horn and a gun to sound off just to ruin their hunting. Now they have a tree stand not 5 feet from my property line on the south side. I have plans to help them out.😂

As he is standing by a illegal posted sign. No name no number and not on its own post.

That’s not true. Posted is posted. No name required in most states bub

Correct! At least inNH and Vt . The law specifies the spacing, and height. Supposed to be signed and dated and on their own posts. Not enforced however. If your land is in conservation easement you’re supposed to allow recreational use. Again not enforced. I’ve no problem with landowners posting their property but I do if they go hunting elsewhere while posting their own. My pet peeve is a jerk of a farmer who posts his property which is fine but he also posts all the land he hays along with adjoining woods just in case he feels like hunting there. Where I live there is very little public land and it’s implied consent so if it’s not posted it’s fine to hunt. So when someone posts large tracts of land for selfishness it bugs me.

Laws are different everywhere. I doubt you know more about it than he does where he is. There is no such thing anywhere as an illegal posted sign on your own property. Also, trespassing is 100% illegal in the vast majority of the US regardless of signs. The old ways died many decades ago.

It’s not your land it’s the state. You lease it from them which is why on the deed it says tenant. If you don’t pay your due taxes federally and state or even city you will lose said land

@@michealknight3776The legal definition of the word tenant is "one who holds or possesses property by any kind of right." That means that it can be correctly used to describe a lesee in a rental agreement OR the land owner on a title or deed. It does NOT mean that a property owner does not own his or her property. Nice try anyway, bud. You need to read more during your next incarceration. There's really no excuse not to.

@@michealknight3776 Even if your absurd misunderstanding of the legal terms was correct, you still can't trespass. You can't walk into someone else's apartment and start taking food out of their fridge simply because they rent it. You can't hop into someone's car and drive off just because they lease it. Are you following me here???

I'd bet you the deed to one of my properties that you can, but I guess you wouldn't be interested in that...
@alanrawson-wg8io10 ай бұрын
We refer to it as ownership but it is actually property of the state. You own rights to the property within the law until you sell said rights or fail to pay your taxes at which point the land reverts back to the state. But it will be transferred to a new”owner” asap because the state is not getting any taxes on it until it has a new “owner” of record to pay the (lease) tax payment. It’s semantics but that doesn’t mean it’s not true.

Buy a camper, no rent, save up. If you're trying to use "rent" as an excuse to trespass and steal from me you're going to find a lot of new problems. I'm trying to pay my bills AND raise my kids.
