The side tapping one is very funny, because I skate with a bunch of speed skaters on the streets and a sort of playful "prank" we play on one another is a quick double tap on the shoulder when you're coming from the other side. Tricked me the first few times but now if I'm skating with them I know what they're up to and they know that I'll do it too, which makes for some funny moments. But it never occurred to me to actually use this in a race. Cheeky but not really any more "foul" than gesticulating at the goalie in hockey, which I played a lot, feints and those sorts of fakies were very commonplace and so was the goalie trying to trick you into thinking he would move a certain way. As long as there is no foul contact and you're not actually disrupting someone by grabbing them, pushing them or twisting them I'd say it's fair game. Might seem "unsportsman-like" but at the same time, the rules are outlined clearly and these kinds of actions are not forbidden in any way. You gotta have what it takes to be world champion, and it's not just physical prowess but also wits! Very humbling.

I think, going like that is really not "sporty n' fair", cause it's so little about beeing the faster speedskater, but so much more about beeing the greater *beeep*. But ... thank you for the lesson.

Trick #2 had my mouth on the floor! lol that's crazy that worked! That's one that probably only works if you have some clout. If you've never won multiple major races, I don't see that one working.

Joey, those tricks are a genius. In a high-paced environment people don't tend to reason, they react emotionally.

3rd one is something that works a lot of times. At the minimum it pisses them off. People pissed off are bothered and that usually takes you off your game. Good shares man.

Quick question and I have no idea anything about racing on inline skates. For your first tip, is that considered playing dirty? I guess in general do a lot of people touch other racers?
@JoeyMantiaSkates4 жыл бұрын
in inline skating its pretty much a staple in racing to make contact with other skaters in one form or another. You don't want to grab someone or hinder their progression by using your hands, but you are definitely able to touch people, and so I wouldn't consider it dirty. If you were to grab someone by the hips at the sprint, twist them out of the turn, or any other fowl play along those lines, that would be unacceptable
@jacksparrow46562 жыл бұрын
@@JoeyMantiaSkates so I have a question similar to this one but if your in an indoor race and it's a smallish short race and there's a lot of people all at the starting line is it a bad idea to go behind everyone else at the starting lineup? I've had races where it's a indoor rink and I've tripped on people's skates and it pretty much completely messes me up. Just wondering cause at like a public race you can't really be pushing people or tapping them. Also I used to do speed skating on ice but kind of stopped doing it for awhile and I noticed having this problem occur often when there's a lot of people racing.

I'd rather get 2nd than trick my way to 1st. How you win matters.
@JoeyMantiaSkates3 жыл бұрын
You feel the same way about trick plays in pro sports, like football? Or is it ok to run a clever play that fakes out your opponents under those circumstances?
@Flyzguy3 жыл бұрын
@@JoeyMantiaSkates that's a really good point. It might be the case that trick plays have worked in football because of the depth of strategy and the visual nature of tracking the ball. In skating, I'm not sure trick plays would be effective or good for the sport if there were masses of skaters slapping, gesturing, maybe yelling all sorts of distractions at each other. Do you like this imagined version of the sport?
@Stepanmc3 жыл бұрын
I was expecting to hear some secrets in push techniques or something like that. Instead - it is about jerky behavior to manipulate racing of others. That's not about racing. That's about fooling your colleagues.
@Stepanmc3 жыл бұрын
But thank you for letting us know about such bad behavior on racing. Looks like even this sport is not about fair competition with respect to each other.
@JoeyMantiaSkates3 жыл бұрын
It's pack style racing. I'm fairly certain every pack style sport, including motor sports, has tactics alike. Bad behavior, in my opinion, would be things like breaking rules, taking performance enhancing drugs, or manipulating a competitor's equipment, to name a few.

I'm no professional skater by any means, but Rollerblade sells the Powerblade Pro skate for USD $799.99, EOSkates has some decent packages for around that price, and Bont, the brand Joey uses, also sells good skates for a nice range of prices. You can find out more about their prices on their websites. Hope this helps some
