Norm, loved this 3 part series, I'm getting more involved with 3rs-ing myself. I've fascinated with your layout since it was in CTT when I was a kid.

Aw cool, glad you liked it!

@@normstrains Keep the vids going. The simple iphone shot stuff and elaborating on what products you use fills in the gap in terms of what I need to know, and for many others for sure.

Great layout. I like how you are scaling things. Have you considered using 2 rail wheelsets? I do O scale 2 rail and they look nice. Intermountain makes great wheelsets.
@normstrains2 жыл бұрын
Can’t really use them because of the way 3 rail switch frogs are set up. I’ve only considered them for some pilot trucks but there’s no net benefit to change everything.

Is there a video that shows the overall layout and the layout trackplan? Your work is phenomenal, and I only wish you were running N&W steam... but at least PRR is close relative. ;-)

I have really been meaning to do a layout tour video. I hope to do one soon, just a got a little busy with work and travel the last few weeks.

Norm, with such an amazing PRR layout, have you thought about working your magic on a GG1?
@normstrains4 жыл бұрын
Thanks, but I don't think one would look right without the catenary to run it under! I had a JLC GG1 years but sold it off.

Looks awesome. I've been slowly converting my fleet. Been looking for a good glue. I've been screwing my pilots on but would like to glue as well. What's the brand you use?
@normstrains4 жыл бұрын
I use Extra Thick Maxi-Cure CA for assembling things like pilots where you need a bit of extra time to align things. I use Insta-Set to zap it to cure faster if needed. I also use Super Thin Insta-Cure for assemblies that don't need the extra time like the coupler boxes. The trick is to rough up the surfaces a bit for extra grab. On some flat surfaces I'll scuff them on my belt sander. Be sure to store your opened CA bottles in an airtight container. You may have seen my old pickle jar on my bench, best little tip I learned somewhere, can't remember ha.

Did you Norm just ordered those and hey did you hear Lionel is doing new S1's
@normstrains4 жыл бұрын
I've had the Lionels for years, just got the Atlas unit this summer. They all came out around 2007-2009. No interest in the S1, maybe the 3rd Rail if I could one for the right price.
@zachmalcolm63424 жыл бұрын
@@normstrains what did you order off the new catalog then
@normstrains4 жыл бұрын
Zach Malcolm oh nothing this time around. I am losing interest in Lionel’s newer engines. Can’t stand the incorrect sounds they install. Would rather seek out older 3rd Rail these days.
