Being in the “heart of Costa Rica” is the equivalent of being in Manhattan in the US So of course it’s going to be expensive

I think you are a little lost on the transportation thing because in the states the public transport is not a priority but here we use busses for everything, so maybe that is why you find it difficult to move around, give busses a chance, you can get everywhere by bus

living here is just common sense if you want to save some money go to local restaurants, local hotels, local tours not those 4-5 starts... salaries here are really different depending on what you do, renting here depends on where u live and if you know the owner, etc, about public transportation busses here can take you anywhere you want and they are cheap, love from Costa Rica 🇨🇷

You need to know some locals. When I first started going there it was expensive….. But now I know lots of people out there …… I spend a third of what I used to ……. For example, I can rent a car for 7 days with insurance for $75 dollars from a local car company….. not from budget or dollar rental ….. because the locals know this and they know how to get things for cheap

I watch your Bali videos and you seem to never have nothing negative to say about Bali, although it is very hot and the humiidity is suffocating and the requirements for retirement visa is much more expensive than Costa Rica, which only requires an income of a thousand dollars a month. Also, who plans to eat out all of the time and pay for an expensive meal. What are the prices at the open market and cooking your own meal. Also, it rains a lot in Bali and other places you have visited, but you seem not to complain as much as you do about Bali than Costa Rica. I have checked out the Weather in certain time of year in most of Central America and the Carribean and it rains a lot in Panama, Belize and even Mexico and other Central and South American countries from about April through December.

And yet we have a fairly low IVA (VAT) compared to other countries, the problem is the base price (which is not exactly set by the government).

Costa Rica is literally a RAINforest. Did they do ANY research before "moving" there? I'm sorry, but I'm so over this guy. He thinks he's some "spiritual leader," but he's NOT and he's an idiot. Don't take advise from a guy who moves to Costa Rica without any research. I still think he was deported from Indonesia.

I think you are very unhappy Sarah. If you don’t like Luke’s content, just move on to someone else. To constantly come on each of his videos stalking and complaining makes zero sense. I pray that you find happiness and joy in your life.

This guy is telling the true. Costa Rica is expensive and its not for pennyless people. Taxes are high, and if you want to have a decent meal in a clean restaurant you pay alot. I have family in Costa Rica. Costa Rica was cheaper 30 years ago but not now.
@kaymarie46292 жыл бұрын
My thing is if you move to the big cities or the more touristy places in a country ofc the prices are going to be higher but what about the more rural areas? like I see so many people living in the middle of the more agricultural/ jungle areas and the markets look so amazing and the food seems cheap but people don’t real make videos about that side

Well done Luke ! I must comment .... If you are paying $1650 a month rent then you are not living in the kind of local neighborhood you say you seek to experience. You should move to a less expensive neighborhood. I live in the countryside, pay $650 per month for a beautiful house, have incredibly wonderful neighbors who help me experience the real culture that I seek. Transportation - where ever you are, ask how to connect to pirata taxi's which are less expensive and can be a better experience if carefully chosen. The weather in the rainy season == most days it rains for a few hours in the afternoon, sometimes more with thunder and lightning, and sometimes alot more - think of it as a blessing of nature and the reason that Costa Rica is so lush and green.

Costa Rica has to import everything it uses, if you think that one day, after a lot of work you want to buy a new car, see this ... The price of a 2021 Toyota Yaris Sedan Core CVT - in Costa Rica 21,327 dollars ... in Mexico 13,745 dollars ... in Costa Rica add to that the 13% sales tax and the prepayment of the transit tax, and that if you pay it in cash ... every year more or less 240 dollars for the transit tax ... and if your car needs a repair, the good mechanics are in San José city, if you live elsewhere you will need to pay a lot for using a tow truck and the parts you will need for the repair must be imported ... a long time wasted and very expensive ... I selected the type of car that is easier to maintain in Costa Rica ... if you want other brands or styles the prices will go through the roof. To be safe in Costa Rica a 4WD is recommended, even if you do not plan to leave the paved road, unexpected road closures, floods, landslides happen at any time and the type of road to take is not for normal cars. In these videos they always say that people in Costa Rica are very nice, etc, etc ... yes, at first it is attractive but for making a life, Costa Rica is too expensive a country ...
@SleepChopTravels3 жыл бұрын
Also is it just the price in San Jose or is it expensive throughout the country?

$500 a month is for people have a jobs without University Degrees. 23% of the Costa Ricans between 24 to 64 have University Degree. O.C.D.E. The unemployment in Costa Rica is High becouse include self employed (no legitimate company). And people over 65. But everyone make they're coins. I know is expected but is Beautiful and Peaceful can you bet that. Costa Rica have more Pros then Cons compared to another countries.🇨🇷👍 You can be wherever you want to be.
