I agree that the 16 inch version is a bit too large footprint wise after comparing it to the 14 inch version. Perhaps Apple will bring back the MB Pro 15 inch when the M4 version is released. Then, the decision will be easy.

Doubt it. Comparet the actual size to the original 15.4” and you will find the 16” is the one-for-one replacement.

I use a intel i9 2019 32gb 16 inch. I’m completely fed up with it. It’s a good computer if you need to cook eggs or warm up your house. Went into best buy today to test the MacBooks. I think I’m going to prefer a smaller MacBook going forward. I’ve been using a 12.9 inch iPad for a entertainment machine while it sits right next to my computer so I guess the Oled keeps me on the smaller screen.

I had the 2019 16”. Doubled as a hair dryer 😂! Currently using a M3 Pro MBP 14” (Space Black of course). The 14” was a pleasant change. From a docked perspective, no difference, but when you want to un-tether it and go somewhere with it, the 14” ALL DAY LONG! Nice thing about the Pro M3, you can drive 2 screens and the native screen, and either the 14” or 16” can handle that. Mine lives in clamshell, so the 14” for the win.

@@jimtipton8888 I like the 14 inch because it’s way easier to haul around. It makes a giant difference and you can still upgrade to 30 core gpu and when it’s time to game you can airplay to the TV

I’m set on the 16” because it’ll be away from my desk most of the time. I have a 27” iMac for that. I’ll be using mine for Web Development & Video Editing.

I’ve had both, 14” all day long. You lose little in a desk top set up (2nd or 3rd screen size)but ya can’t beat the portability of the 14”. If you’re using it as a stand alone solution, then the 16”, but the 14” if you plan to use it docked or you plan to travel a lot with it.

mmm maybe I will get the 14" I had a similar issues with the 13" iPad Pro. I got the 11" M4 and find myself using it more... surprisingly. Plus if I need a bigger screen I still have my monitor I can connect it to if I need more screen real estate docked multitasking.

Did you notice the typing on the 16” to be harder. My wrist hurts and I thought was the size and distance but can’t figure out how to fix that

Oh that isn’t good news. I haven’t heard anyone talked about that before. But personally, I was very comfortable on the 16”! No problem there! I think there’s a proper ergonomics when it comes to typing - perhaps this article can help you. www.autonomous.ai/ourblog/proper-typing-posture-guide-from-ergonomists

A laptop wedge / riser which places the 16 inch notebook at about a 10-15 degree angle may help when the laptop is used on a flat table. Notice that the distance from the front edge of the laptop to the first row of keys decreases when observed from a top view in this configuration.

16 is better in every way unless you are a tiny person. Battery, screen, speakers, larger fans less thermal throttling, multitasking (literally not a myth lol) , larger chassis. 16” inch is a no brainer unless like I said you are a tiny person or on a budget…

Also, if the 16” is “too heavy” then that’s a sign it’s time to get into the gym… 16” is not heavy unless you have noodle arms & legs.

I kind of believe you also need to think about the price/power ratio, because it will be mostly the same, within the same power, only 200 dollars add up will give you a much larger screen, though you have a fare point here that you want to carry it everyday. Another thing about the multitasking, as you mentioned, 16 inch is much better for portable video editing as in those software the panels takes a lot of space, and if you are just doing daily task, I would say the 16 inch is good for 2 windows in one screen, one will be your main working software, another one can be a good reference. Multi-tasking is not about putting as much screen as possible, but it is about when you need some more windows while doing ONE thing, what I like is hold on the full size key, then I can add 2 app in one full screen, then use the trackpad gesture to swipe and only focus on one project a time. So it really depends on your use case, I would personally prefer 16 inch, because if I want to bing the Mac with me, usually I am not just writing and doing some excel, I might do some Lightroom or Final Cut, but I will try to only bring it when I need to work, otherwise the Mac will stay at home or lay in the hostel. Hopefully the WWDC will bring some support of Mac app in iPad, then 13 inch can be a really nice travel companion.

I have an XPS17, but i need a mac for ios development. Went to bestbuy and my first impression when trying the 14 inch was its too small. 16 inch was perfect. BUT i couldnt lift them to feel the weight because they were glued to the table.

Hmm… if memory serves me right , 16” weighs around 2.1kg . The screen size is lovely. But I typically plug it into my monitor if I need a huge display.

Big facts! I actually went even further with the Macbook Air with the M1, 3 years going strong. The limitations also is a nice way for me to work more efficiently rather than just going HAM on the editing. I even edit my school videos in 4k 30 and it edits way faster than the school Imacs HAHA. Lightweight kings!

I still don’t understand it. A MacBook Pro … it’s all about performance. I do renderings and animations and it would be impossible for me to do this work on a 14inch screen. But the 16inch is far too big for using it during a flight. I never saw anyone doing heavy duty work on a flight. Same goes for coffee shops. It would be more logical to go for the Air. I also think the 14 is cuter than the big one. But for simple tasks it’s just overpowered.
@arlencarlson
@arlencarlson 9 күн бұрын
14” is actually just minimally larger than the Air. So, the 14” is a logical choice if you want the benefits of the 16” in a smaller easier-to-carry package.
