Welcome to the SV family brother. Got mine back in 2017 (all black) and have had so much fun relearning. I also hadn’t ridden for near 30 years.. not suggesting you need to do this,just what I’ve done, new rear can. Braided brake lines and racing pads. Cassette replacement in the forks and rear suspension upgrade too. Also now run a 180 rear tyre. All of these changes have made a great bike better and can ride it faster. Didn’t rush to do any of this but all worth doing over time. Have fun brother. Peace from Wales. UK👍🙏

Thanks Andrew, I'm writing all of this down. Thank you for the information. I'll be modifying it as the months and years go by, I'm going to start with the exhaust and then work my way up. Maybe the brake pads as well. It sounds like you did some work on your bike, that's awesome! 😎 👍 Thank you so much for the suggestions

Super cool to see a beginner perspective on the sv650, I’m in a similar position of being a new rider and wanting one. Thanks for the video!
@swampssa3 жыл бұрын
I’m an experienced rider and just bought a new one. Why did I buy one? 1. It’s a cheap and overly reliable bike. 2. Has plenty of power to do almost anything. 3. Maintenance cost is super low. I’m using it to commute with. I have about 110 mile a day round trip commute and it’s something that I totally don’t mind dumping miles onto.

Bought mine in May as a re-entry option after a long hiatus from riding. Owned a VF500 and VFR750 previously. There are fast bikes and bikes you can ride fast. The SV650 is definitely in the latter category! It has decent horsepower and great torque, which translates to superior engine braking and roll on speed. This bike lives between 60-80 mph and instills a lot of confidence in the twisties as well. Added a Yosh Alpha pipe which I would highly recommend.

Superb bike. I bought mine last year in August. Grey/red colorscheme. Was 6k Euros, new. Being a beginner too, I considered buying the bike i rode during my lessons, a MT07. Rode the MT07 like 20 or more hours during my practical lessons, was fine with it. But when afterwards i tried the SV650, man, I was in love. Such a swiss army knife for being a bike. Great review that. I've not long bought one and i love it. I agree with what you say about it being easy to service, one of the reasons i changed my previous bike due to it being fully faired and a bit awkward for a spark plug change. I'm a lot older than you and i'm at the age i wanted a bike that was easy to maintain but still be a lot of fun. My previous bike was a GSX1250FA and while i understand the SV650 is a good first big bike its also a good all rounder bike no matter your experience. My view on it anyway. PS, the Can (Muffler) ruins the bike, get an after market one you'll not regret it.

Alot of riders slate the SV 650 as a "girls" bike. I am now on my 3rd SV which I have owned for 2 days. This is a truly do it all motorcycle,they will do almost anything you put there way to a reasonable ability! I have owned many bikes from a Ducati 1098R,KTM 1290 SDR to Harleys. The SV produces around 70hp which in 95% of situations is more than enough. I have always been fortunate enough to be in a position to have a work bike and a garage queen but over recent times I barely get time to ride my 2nd bike due to family commitments. So I have decided to go back to an SV as my only do it all motorcycle. Yes there are others middleweight bikes like the MT-07,CB650R and so on but the SV is much cheaper and still performs to a very good level. Plus it's true essence of a motorcycle remains without all the daft rider aids that many come with. Granted the rider aids help and protect new riders from potentially bad decisions but they do get in the way when pushing on and you can't turn them all completely off.

Hey I am in the same boat as you, been riding about 2 months now and I also got a 2020 SV650 from the dealership. The 2021's are about to drop so i ended up gettin it for 6499 which I was stoked about. Yeah I don't see myself gettin bored on it. I just did a ride today and I was a bit naughty since it was an open straight away with zero traffic but lets just say that it does not take much to get into 3 digit speeds and im 250lbs so its got plenty of power for a beginner. Love the bike, hope you keep enjoying it.

So I own the big brother to this bike VStrom 650. Same engine! This is a great bike comfy reliable. To the people who are saying it’s their first bike or beginner bike trust me this could be your forever bike. I have had several bikes and all of them were bigger cc’s and the 650 on this bike is the perfect match. The seat is great cause you have enough room to shift your butt around and your not stuck in one spot. I have been riding for 30 years and now the vstrom is getting a little heavy so I will be looking at the sv650 and the Kawasaki Vulcan 650s it has the same engine as the ninja 650 I did test ride it it’s pretty sweet.
@jeremychristner96824 жыл бұрын
That's awesome though, I was actually checking out the VStrom as well when I was looking at all the other bikes. It looks like a great adventure bike. Something to go on long trips and maybe even a little off-roading. I sat on the VStrom 1000 and it was a tall bike. I couldn't believe how tall it was. It's definitely a bike I'm going to be looking at in a couple years. Do you go on long rides with your bike? Have you ever gone on a couple day ride like a camping trip or something?
@rogerparliman18924 жыл бұрын
@@jeremychristner9682 Yes I have gone on long rides I live in Orange County NY which is about 60 miles north of NYC so we have plenty of good riding around here but it gets even better around lake George and the finger lakes region. I have done some light off road riding it was a lot of fun. On the highway the 650 is awesome. Just beware when you ride with side panniers you get wind pressure on them. The 1000 is a cool bike but you don’t need all that for off road. I will say these bikes are awesome and reliable.

After 30 yr bike hiatus, i jumped on a 07 1250 Bandit and it scared me a bit. Mostly to heavy rather than to powerful. So i eased back into on 2018 sv650x cafe style with mods. Rode it for a year and got my confidence\skills back and stepped up to a new GSX 1000Sz. Now also ride a BMW R1200R. The SV was a great bike and agree totally with your reasoning for purchase. Just watch the emergency stops the brake lever requires much pressure to stop fast. Better pads and brake line increase bite significantly. Ride safe.

@jeremychristner96824 жыл бұрын
Hi Adam Shorter, thanks for the question. It sounds like your head is in the right place, that's good. Being really young as you are and not knowing if you have any motorcycle experience, I would keep doing lots of research while you're waiting to take your riders course. And then once you take the class, see how you feel and understand how comfortable you are on the bike. You'll learn a lot at that class and you should gain a lot of confidence too. The SV650 is a middle weight bike with a lot of power, it can be dangerous, but it's also a great beginner bike if your head is in the right place. If you're willing to take it slow in the beginning and practice a lot, than this is a perfect bike. It's a bike that's going to last you years and years to come. But if you're a hot head and just want to rip it down the street and look cool, than I would highly recommend not starting out on this bike. But if you are willing to be safe and practice a lot in the beginning, than this could be the perfect beginner bike for you. Stay in touch, let me know if you have any other questions. I hope this helps
