OC: I’m 61 years old and started riding five years ago, on an SV650. Chase was one of many influences that helped me make that decision. I’ve got 21K+ on the SV. In April 2022, I bought the OEM top case then rode from Nashville TN through southern Missouri Ozarks down into Arkansas then across Texas to Austin. I attended all days of the MotoGP race at COTA, then rode the SV home through Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. Not one single problem and fun fun FUN! Hoping in the future to improve its suspension and brakes and take it on the track.

Miata is that good because of its light weight. SV on the contrary is heavy as concrete block. The heaviest in its class. I was riding it during my licence course and I hate it. Everything is crap on this bike besides engine. My Trident or MT 07 are bike world Miatas, not this. 😅

I considered selling my 19' sv650x once for something with more power and electronics. Took it out for a final ride before the sale and immediately knew I couldn't sell it. You wont find a more reliable, capable, and engaging bike as the sv650 for the price. 22k miles and a 47t rear sprocket later and it feels faster than ever! The community for these bikes is in its own league too

Good to see Chase finally giving this bike the respect it deserves. He was pretty harsh on it when he reviewed it in 2017. My thoughts, as an actual SV650 owner. 1) The SV650 is not going away, at least not in 2023. And if it continues to sell well, Suzuki would be crazy to get rid of a money maker. I don't consider the GSX-8S a replacement for this bike. They look nothing alike. 2) This bike is for everyone, not just beginners or people who want to work on their bikes. 3) For me, this bike is plenty fast for the streets or canyons. if you're doing 0 to 85 mph, this bike has all the power you need. Any faster and you'll risk losing your license (in America). 4) If you want a pure bike with just the basics (ABS, fuel gauge, gear indicator), and one that is fun and fast, consider this bike. The reasons I would upgrade to another bike are for things like a factory quick-shifter, slipper clutch, cruise control, and a fully adjustable suspension.

Couldn't agree more Organic. Love my 2020 SV650. I'm currently addressing the (ahem) budget suspension with Ohlins fully adjustable cartridges and a Wilbers rear shock, hence no need to upgrade!

@@JohnnieV In terms of performance, most people can't really outgrow this bike for street riding. But what you want in a motorcycle could change. I know a guy with an MT09SP who says he wants to go back to smaller displacement bike because he can't use all the power of his bike on the street. So it all depends. For me, middleweight naked bikes are just right.

Thanks for making this video! I am the proud owner of an all black 2020 SV650. It's an amazing bike. I'm shocked that people stop me all the time and ask me about it. I thought about upgrading, but why? It's a thrill to ride, and happily does everything I want it to. It deserves an upgraded suspension, and that's what I'm doing now.

I'm 68 Years Young. I have been riding since I was 15. Had my Motorcycle Endorsement continuous since I was 18. Currently Bike Less due to some bills I had to pay. My most recent ride was a 2018 Honda CB500X. VERY nice and comfortable Bike, but it had a pulse and wobble in the front end when braking that NO MECHANIC I took it to could figure out. Mechanically, I know the Suzuki V-Twin Engines VERY well, and think they are extremely reliable and long lived. I DO intend to get another ride, and I'm seriously considering an SV-650.

I bought a 2023 SV650 (non ABS) a few days ago. I have to say my impressions of the bike don't match some of yours... The brakes are fine, the handling is stable, the bike is flickable, the engine is wonderful, I am in love with this beautiful bike! My other bike is a Matte Raven Black 2021 Yamaha MT-09 (gen3, non SP version). I dearly love my MT-09, but I can corner faster and more comfortably on my SV650. That's unexpected, to say the least. My only problem with me having bought my SV650, is I want to ride it more than my MT-09. It's not so bad that I want to sell my MT-09, that triple is so much fun, but this little V-twin is awesome!

I think the handlebar is stock. I actually like having narrow handlebars when lane filtering because sometimes the opening between cars is very narrow and I need every inch of space that I have. As far as torque goes, the torque is almost the same at all rpm, but there is slightly more torque at high rpm (max torque is at 8000 rpm). This means that you can ride in pretty much any gear you like, but if you want to accelerate hard then you have to downshift. Without a wind screen, riding on the interstate is rough, but it's the perfect bike everywhere else.

I think you nailed in on the nostalgic part of these bikes, something about them. My friends from around the world all agreed. I enjoyed your commenting and video review of this newer 2020 Suzuki SV650. I think you nailed it on the best target audience, for sure a popular bike for the mechanically inclined rider! The naked look is not the best per say but the convivence and easiness of working on it mechanically is attractive to this audience, with myself included. I would love this bike for that reason. Awesome video!

I rear-ended somebody's CR-Z and totaled my 07 SV650S, miss it so much even if I only had it for a week. This was the single highest-cost-to-performance middle motorcycle with relatively high top speed until RS660 came in. That bike however didn't even come close to how cheap an SV is, used or stock. If I can have another motorcycle I will definitely hold onto a 2nd gen SV650 / 650S again, or even a 1000S.

OC: It’s not just you. I have a third gen SV (2017) and it really feels like Suzuki engineered the fun out of it. The riding position is almost frustratingly neutral and overall it’s bordering on Honda-like complacency (read: boring). Plus this third gen has a minimal aftermarket compared to the first two generations unless your plans are to go full-tilt track weapon. It may sound like I don’t like it, but that’s not quite the case. It’s my second motorcycle after my Cbr500r, which weighed exactly the same, and has lots more pep and capability than that ever could. It fits the role of two wheeled Miata; it’s the answer to all questions, but there are other offerings that also excel. If nothing else it gives the rider the chance to experience a v-twin that isn’t a potato-potato-potato American cruiser, an adrenaline filed temperamental Austrian street bike, or a pompous Italian“L-twin”

I owned a 2017 and did 45k miles on it. loved every second. I feel like I had a different bike than everyone else though. All I did was a KN air filter, airbox mod (the dill some holes in the cover one) Throttle kit(another super easy one) and a cheapish delkevic exhaust. My SV jumped on the line, pulled to redline in every gear and, at least according to the speedo, topped at 130mph. I'v owned 5 bikes. Ninja 300, Triumph tt600, a Hyosung 650r, this SV650 and about 6 month ago sold it for a 2012 triumph street triple. I loved the SV Never let me down or had any issues and in a lot of ways miss it. I don't know what the point of that was, basically just saying I see a lot of people saying they are not fun, but at least my 2017 that I owned put more smiles on my face and in someway felt way stronger off the line and down the road then even my triple.

I rode my buddies Sv650 when he purchased it. I also rode the Trident 660. I liked the Sv650 a lot better tbh. The Trident was light but something about the power and didn’t feel as good. I don’t know how to explain it. I owned a 1st Gen Street Triple that I was comparing it to, the man at the Dealership did too and we both agreed that it felt like it had peaks in the power band or something. Or some sorta delay between twisting and the bike actually moving. But then again that bike was used, seemed to not like being high in the rpms. So idk. But I love the Sv650 a lot.

I’ve had 2 SVs (Gen 1 and 2) and both of them were fabulous with simply adding on a wider set of bars like Pro Tapers or something you would use on a SM. I’ve been considering getting a newer bike and I highly feel like a new SV is in my future. My thoughts on a SV chassis for someone is that its a great ADHD Street Bike for someone who doesn’t want a SM. ADHD street bike meaning I love the maneuverability of a SM but someone who wants a 2 cylinder bike they could comfortably ride almost anywhere being in town or highway. 🙌🏼💯

Great machine. Definitely not ugly. I quite like it. Has a bit of a 1980s/90s vibe which is right up my alley. These designs, with the round headlight, curvy tank, and swooping tail, reminds me of a Porsche 911 from the 1980s... This bike design and quite a few Jap bikes like CB400SF, CB1200SF, XJR1300 are other examples. Exhaust change is required, and tail tidy. SV650x is nicer looking with the different front cowl, but for comfort I'd want upright bars.

I have an option of buying sv650 with blue frame for 7000€, and sapphire black trident for 8400€. Even though the sv is a really great offer, it doesn't look nearly as good as the trident... Really torn up by the choice

Visually Speaking, the trellis frame is tacisctly reminiscent of vasculature, while we know from Anatomy 101 that, blue blood, (no pun or poke at your southern location) is oxygenated blood and therefore life-giving,. Blue can appear as morbid, when not electric or sky like, a certain "pallor". However, the red trellis of the 2017 797 Ducati, the '21 SV650 the BMW '16 R1250 RS, Deseret Sled '19', 20, new Hornet '23 750, The red lines suggest vigor, contrast between the frame and engine colors for trellis seem important also for certain palate. The H2, ZH2 have that "Alien"-Green, successful in suggesting a Protoplasmic plasma capable for Picard's domain. KTM's Gen1 and Gen2 1290 Beast achieved something similar with their reticular pumpkin

Also in the same situation, and also 50 years old :-) Currently have a Svartpilen 125 learner bike, will be buying a bigger bike soon. Was originally looking at a CB500X, but after doing full license lessons on an SV650 I think I want the extra power!

Hi from Brazil bro. Here we have fewer options, unfortunately. Our first SV 650 was the Gladius... And just had here the 2018, in practice. So, what's your thoughts on this or a 2015 standard BMW F800R? Almost same price here, nowadays. I already had a 2012 F800R, and what a surprise that BMW just got even gear indicator out; not to mention the body computer and thermometer too... I was thinking on a 2016 Speed Triple R too but, besides being much more expensive, I'm afraid of being too heavy, too. Best regards, and keep going.

I notice that the Suzuki site shows a 2023 model for the SV650, but no 2023 model for the GSX250R. Making the SV650 the lowest HP street/sport bike for 2023. Do you think they'll have any other lower HP bikes being announced soon for the beginner segment?

i wouldnt be suprised at the gsx250r being discontinued, no way many were being sold. maybe theyll make a 3-400 cc class offering now but its unlikely.

Doubt it, with euro 5 and euro 6 emission regulations, manufacturers are able to get around it by upping the displacement of their engines. So for suzuki to develop a new 300 bike just to get around emission standards is highly unlikely. See drz 400 that stays unchanged precisely because of this reason. Second, the r and d on a new engine would cost a lot and suzuki has been on a major savings spree (see their motogp departure even though they have been successful in racing there and in other series of racing)

SV 650, The bike you start off with..then regret selling because you wanted to "upgrade" to something "better" ?...or "cooler" ?..Then after enough time and money wasted on to big, to expensive, to fast, to off road, to track, to thirsty, to uncomfortable, etc etc etc...The bike you will go back to...And keep forever. The same can be said of the V Strom.

I am Six ft four, would i feel comfortable on this bike as my first? im also considering Yamaha R7, mt-07, or Ninja 400. I'm still unsure what to go for as I've never ridden any bike yet I also live in Dubai, which is full of highways and normal streets, so what would be best?

I'm 5 ft 5 and I can flat foot the SV650 with my knees slightly bent. It's a very low seat height. You should look for other higher seat bikes if you would want to look decent and sit comfortably. MT-07/09, R7, KTM Duke. At the end of the day I always recommend sitting on the bikes and go for a test ride. Nothing beats that. That's how I chose my bike. Feel, seat, sound, handling. You check that all out. Most ppl pick by bike appearance anyway.

I wanted this bike as my first earlier this year. Guess what burst that bubble... Insurance cost. Through the roof. The most unlikely of bikes ended up in my garage: Ducati Scrambler Icon Dark. Way way cheaper to insure and a blast to ride and learn on. 🙌
