I used to pay for gas at the pump with my credit card. Ever since I started using gas apps like Shell, I haven't gone back. The app can pay through Apple Pay, making it more secure, among other benefits.

Signing up was tricky, to avoid also having to sign up for Fuel Rewards. It tries to make you sign into a Fuel Rewards account, which wants your credit card. After fussing with it, I realized I could just skip that screen or click on the X to close it. Then, I could use Apple Pay. A tad frustrating, but am glad you mentioned below that you don't HAVE to have the Fuel Rewards app, too. I just went on a trip and stopped at a couple of Chevron stations and had a lot of trouble with the tap feature for my credit card at the pumps. Not sure it it was shady, but ended up going inside to pay cash. So, I do really appreciate this Shell app that lets you pay with Apple Pay. Thanks for the video. Short, sweet and really helpful.

I downloaded the app , and right as chose the pump number it canceled my debit card for “suspicious activity” . I approved it on my bank app, but I’d rather pay inside . I got Bank of America, maybe that’s why idk

I have a 30 gal tank and I get 14-19 mpg so 10 cents less per gallon actual makes a pretty big difference after a few months

More stations have NFC and EMV transactions (I.e. Chip) such that you never use mag strips anymore to get your info skimmed. I do avoid going to stations that haven't upgraded yet... With the gas app, all you're doing is giving away your location and are a vector for marketing! Those rewards better be worth the data you're giving away for free!!!

I also use the Shell gas app but I also have the fuel Rewards app I think the reason why people are confusing the Shell and a fuel reward app are identical. With one major difference you will be able to link the Shell fuel reward card to the fuel reward app not to the shell app unless you decide to get the Shell fuel reward MasterCard. Since I have both app links together and I also have both card I just got the Shell fuel rewards card in the mail today I'm just waiting for the MasterCard. The first time I used it the saving was insane 90 cents a gallon saving that came out to $9.40 from a $48.44 down to $39.04 this is with the premium gas in a Subaru Forester. Not to get confused this is before they sent me the card in the mail I already had the MasterCard link to the app so I was already saving before I even had the card in hand.

@shapley4980 Nope, unless you're applying for the credit card, which I believe there is no annual fee? Which I totally forgot? It's been almost 2 years since I had the thing. There are 2 different kinds. The regular reward card which you have to use in conjunction with your credit card or debit card to use it, and then there is the actual credit card, which you can apply for with the credit card version, though, every time you use it. You get 10 cents per gallon every time you fill up. With the regular rewards card, you have to get 11 gallons every time you fill up to get that 10 cent a gallon on the regular reward card, but other than that. Every time you use the reward card, you get 5 cent a gallon. Just to clarify, you start off with 5 cents a gallons with the credit card. Every time you use it, it adds 5 cents until it reaches 40 cents per gallon.

They charge you credit card price. Credit card x% back + gas app reward (x cent discount per gallon depending gas station). Sometimes bonus on the app too which save you little. This equivalent as you paying in cash if you have high % cash back in credit card. Not huge difference but you don't need to walk to the cashier and help you spend requirement on your credit card bonus or something.

I have had issue with the Shell Fuel Rewards app since Feb 2022, when I was told I was getting two new cards with different acct # for me and my wife's cards, which I never asked for..The old cards work where ever I used them. I have had 4 additional sets of cards just sent to my house trying to correct the problem No one can figurer out why ...my dining rewards wont show up on my FR as rewards ( 10 cents off per 50 dollar spent ) All my purchases ( fuel -dining ) show up on the Citi Bank statement the Shell FR app is connected to every month. Now the latest card I got in Oct 7 2022..were under a -30 off for the first 5 fill-up promotion. We don't drive that much so it took until 12/11 2022 to use that last -30 fill-up in that pro-mo. Even though we were still using the card at a restaurant in their program.. None of the dining rewards were adding to our savings. So after 4 emails and several screen shots from the actual restaurant receipts.. I was told ..no dining reward were able to be earned during the pro-mo. Is this app still working for you ??? does it have ways to earn rewards on it ??? Ive played all those 10th anniversary games and earned almost 60 cents off during the new card/customer promotion so I don't know why our dining didn't add up. Now I'm only getting the Gold Member status -10 off at the pump. I just finished downloading the Shell pay-and-save- app..one other thing I noticed lately with the pumps at different Shell stations .. they are not the same pumps ...is this app usable at "ALL: Shell stations ??? Citi bank blamed the station, the station blamed the pumps and the 24'/7" help desk is useless ..if no one there uses these apps then how can I get it across to them why its not working the way it did before 2/2022.. You seem welcoming and interested in helping folks so thanks very much for the effort . However I need to provide some feedback with the greatest respect for your desire to inform others. Some information comes across a bit garbled due to your pattern of speech where some words are spoken too quickly or slurred together. Practice your diction before making a video that you hope will be clear to those watching who have no idea what to do or why to use the Shell App. Some information was vague-for example you glossed too quickly over how you pay for the gas. What if I don't want to sign up for apple pay? Perhaps you registered a credit card in the app? How did the app recognize which Shell station you went to? Really I am left with a number of questions that your video could have addressed just by imagining a user who has no experience at all with what you are doing let alone needs convincing that you have three good reasons to use the app. A lot more detail would make this a much more helpful video.

My inexperience shows and I would probably do it very differently if I were to remake it. This is still very helpful because I am thinking of doing another gasoline-related video in the future. Good question. You don’t need to use both. I currently don’t use the fuel rewards app since I rather link my Apple Pay than an actual card in the app. Fuel Rewards looks like it requires you to link your actual card. To me, privacy is more important than the savings aspect. If saving is a priority, it does look like the fuel rewards program has some good deals.

Have you ever tried remotely? Like if my wife contact me saying she needs gas could I tell her to pull up to a shell station and I complete this on the app for her remotely and all she has to do is grab the pump and fill up… is that possible? Thanks in advance

its based on gps so the phone would need to be at the station. She can just download the app and set it up like yours and avoid this issue
