I’m trying to decide between them but leaning towards Sony. I’m a Nikon shooter but the Z50 will be more expensive with the adapter, as heavy as a DSLR, with worse specs. I’d feel like a fool to pay more for less even though I know Nikon is top for image quality. But in the last few years Sony has supposedly really improved their colors and the A6400 is ranked amongst the top for accurate colour reproduction. I know it’s personal preference and wish there were more comparison images out there so I could really tell colour difference. For people with large hands and who need easier menu access I can see it makes a difference to go Z50.
@visualsbyst3 жыл бұрын
A few things to maybe consider. You may find the Z50 deal where they throw in the adapter for free or very cheap. When I bought it, it was the same exact price as the A6400 with the adapter included. I’m not sure what you mean it is as heavy as a DSLR. The Z50 is really light and even with the adapter, it’s not heavy. The specs for me are pretty much the same as A6400’s specs with a few minor differences, like no LOG and 21mp vs 24. However, you can have a flat profile on the Z50 and it looks really good. Now, the A6400. What I really don’t like about it are the menus and dials. I find that only 1 dial instead of 2 is pretty much a deal breaker for me. It takes more steps when you want to change aperture, ISO and some other things. However, what I really like about the A6400 are the Sigma lenses. They are great. It all comes down to your preference. They are both good cameras. Good luck with your pick. Thanks for watching.
@NatalieZii3 жыл бұрын
If I could find it as cheap as the Sony with an adapter I’d definitely buy it! Doesn’t matter how great a camera is if you don’t feel comfortable using it of course and I’m concerned about that as well. I guess it’s all relative to what you’re used to for weight. My current D5000 is 610g and it’s fine but definitely not light. Z50 (450g) + FTZ (135g) is basically as heavy for me. Not a deal breaker but lighter is nicer. Another issue for me is the top reason I’m wanting to buy mirrorless is the improved video AF functionality. I could get the widely beloved D750 for 800$ used so I’m having a hard time justifying that extra 400$ for a decent video option- I could buy a drone, a new phone with decent video etc for that kind of money. I know it’s more modern etc. but for my purposes its just not very affordable for the hobbyist. If I was okay with nothing but the kit lens it would be fine but I actually have the Sigma 1.4 for Nikon (they make them!) and I’m attached to that depth of field. The cost of an adapter really hurts it.
@visualsbyst3 жыл бұрын
I agree. I’d never buy the adapter separately. It’s something like $350 CAD here. I don’t where you live, though. Here in Canada, it was on sale a few times and they threw the adapter in for free. And yes, mirrorless is better for video. I had the D750 for a long time, but I switched to mirrorless because of it. While the Sony might be lighter, it’s more awkward to hold. I’m sure most stores would let you hold both of them and you can decide which one works best for you. Either one of them will do the job, so whichever you pick will be a good pick.

@visualsbyst Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment, but it wasn’t just about the looks of the camera. The grip is much more important than just what it looks like. There might be more customizable buttons on the Sony, but having front and rear dial is very important to me and I’m sure it is to a lot of others. Slog is good on a camera that can shoot 10-bit. With 8-bit, S-log falls apart much quicker, because you have to bring back the colours. On the Nikon, I can create my own custom flat profile, that is even flatter than Nikon’s default flat and I can colour grade that one, but the colours may look nicer, because I didn’t desaturate it. All that being said, I’m just giving my opinion in the video to give people an option other than the 6400. Neither camera’s are bad and neither are the best. Nothing wrong with the a6400.

Sadly there are only 2 lenses for this thing....! Z FX lenses are too expensive for someone buying the Z DX. Sony have the Sigma Trinity and loads more lens choices... ! That's the reason not to get this camera at this point in time... but.. yeah its better in the points you specifically raised. Hey, I know I am late but I am confused between A6400 and Z50. I am going to use it just for taking holiday pictures and astrophotography (when i ll get a telescope in future). I don't care about video at all and lack of lenses on Z mount too because I ll use the 50-250mm kits lens all the time. Which one should I go for? I am not biased about any brand tho, it's going to be my first camera 🥲
@visualsbyst2 жыл бұрын
Hi, either camera is fine for photos, but I prefer Nikon’s colours. I also like the Z50’s handling better. That being said, I don’t think 50-250mm kit lens is very good for astrophotography, but I’m not an astrophotographer, so I don’t know. Another thing to consider is that even though you think you’ll be completely fine with just that kit lens and no video, this might change in the future. You never know. I was in the same boat. I bought a camera to just use it for family photos and then became obsessed with photography. The good news is that both of these options have a decent lens line up if you do change your mind. I can’t know which of these two you’d enjoy more, but I personally would go with the Z50.

The 16-50mm that comes with it, isn’t really a portrait lens. I only use it for general/street photography when I travel. The 50-250mm I’ve never had, but it is definitely better for portraits than the 16-50mm. While it will give you that background blur at 200 and 250mm, it will not be very good at blurring the background at lower focal lengths. Neither of the lenses are good in lower light. It all depends how you will use them.

Hey S.T, i'm looking for a new camera(have an old Canon 7D now), only for stills, i don't shoot videos. But all cameras has video possibility of course,because people want that. The Sony A-6400 is great but to complex menu,the Nikon Z-50 i do not know yet. Also looked at the Canon R series(but no third party lenses available). And the Fuji XS-10 of course. Have an old Fuji X-20 with fixed lens and i still love that small camera. I like the design of the Z-50 the most; don't need a fully articulated(?) screen; don't do vlogging,selfies etc, just photography. What do you advise? Sorry for the long story and bad english; i'm from Amsterdam Holland.
@visualsbyst Жыл бұрын
It all depends on your preferences and what you shoot. Do you shoot landscape, street, portraits? You can’t go wrong with any of these cameras. Personally, I’d go with either Nikon Z50 or the Canon R series. Which lenses would you need for Canon? There are no third party, but they do have some inexpensive primes. With third party lenses from Viltrox, you’d have to deal with really bad chromatic aberration. That’s why I gave up on Viltrox. I didn’t like the purple or green outline of my subjects.

Which one is better for taking overhead shooting (for crafts/creative projects) in your opinion up to date? I don't have enough base to answer this myself as I'm just about to buy first camera, I'm thinking it would need good autofocus and sometimes probably should work in some low light situation. Also is there any solution for 30 mins record limit? I found an intervelometer could work yet I can't find one for this Nikon Thank you.
@visualsbyst Жыл бұрын
Either one. I prefer Nikon colours, so I’d choose Nikon if you’re not going to do much editing. If you’re going to be editing, then it doesn’t matter much. Crafts and creative projects aren’t going to be moving erratically 😂, so either autofocus will be fine. You don’t even need autofocus for that stuff, but it is good to have. Both are good in low light, however, if you’re doing product shots of crafts, you might want to learn about lighting it properly. If your lighting isn’t good, no camera will give you amazing photos. Solution for 30 min recording would be to get a Z30 instead of the Z50. I believe that camera has no recording limit.

Most of my research keeps coming back to the Z50 as best bang for the buck for photos, don’t really care one way or the other about video as I will probably not use it much at all. Would love to save a little money but not cheap out either.
@visualsbyst Жыл бұрын
For the most part, I do. With landscape, though, it gets a bit more complicated. I’m assuming you will need an ultra wide lens. Your only options for Nikon are adapted F lenses. There are some third party wide lenses, like the Viltrox 13mm, but that’s not super wide and it’s a prime lens. I believe Sony has some ultra wide lenses for APSC. Nikon does too, but you’ll have to adapt them. Adapting them isn’t a big deal at all, especially for landscape, so it’s up to you. Other than that, I’d go with the Nikon.
