If this isn’t too personal, would you mind sharing how long you were on suboxone? You’re experience is incredible & the only time I’ve ever come across a… “testimony” of this nature. I’m Very happy for you! I wish we could ALL be this fortunate.

I would really argue against it not being like heroin withdrawal. I’m really glad your personal experience was not bad but coming off suboxone cold turkey can be hell and last a lot longer than withdrawl from other opiates

Suboxone saved my life! I don’t let others opinions sway me. A small dose daily keeps my opiate cravings away, drug seeking is non existent, and my is anxiety no longer plaques me. I am a productive member of society, and am no longer a slave to short acting opiates. Thanks Doc! 🌺

When the dr says that failure with suboxone can come with the patient doing “self management” he is right. My son was on suboxone after a 60 day treatment program and was doing well. But then he started trying to stop taking it for 4 days or whatever and try and use again. I begged him to not Do that and take it as directed and not think about eventually getting off. I then suggested an excellent you tube video (look up: after 11 years in recovery a suboxone trial patient speaks out)from a man who was one of the first trial patients. It’s an excellent video. Unfortunately, my son did not make it BUT anyone who is still using and sees this, I hope the video can give you some hope and direction. Don’t make your parents live my families life which is full of pain

Although, I do know there are a lot of mothers who are willing to talk. For instance: the black poster project on the east coast. I’m sure you could google to get the woman’s name who started it. I know there has been many news articles on it. Also, she may have some contacts of some mothers who would like to do an interview. Also, maybe contact humanizing addiction (Facebook page). Great video. Reminded me of when I first started treatment on suboxone. I went to a pain clinic and not a treatment center. I could tell that the office employee didn't like me at the pain clinic or the nurse practitioner. But not knowing where to go I just google suboxone doctors in my area and that where I went. They started me on 16mg then after 4 months they wanted me to start cutting back on my dosage to 8mg. Then after one month on 8mg they wanted me to go to 4mg. Luckily for me I needed to reschedule an appointment and the office manager wouldn't allow me to reschedule even though my appointment was still 2 weeks away. I ended up finding a treatment center with a doctor that specializes in addiction. His office made sure to work me in for an appointment. My new doctor switched me to subutex and helped me with getting the correct treatment. But most important I didn't feel ashamed going into his office every month. He's since retired and I'm seeing a new doctor. But it's definitely important to go to a doctor or treatment center that will help and not somewhere that isn't meant for addiction treatment. Thanks again for these videos Doctor!

Thank you Dr B. You're a moral and ethical man. Not long ago, well, maybe a year or two back I saw a doc saying he gave his patients no more than 6 months to start and stop the use of suboxone. I was shocked. He said it was usually 2 to 3 months and he started weaning right away. I wanted to scream at my computer and ask WHY? Putting people in jail for this disease is exactly like putting people in jail for needing a wheel chair because of cancer or something. It is morally repugnant to me, and should be to others as well. The government/ state worries me most of the 3 categories you mentioned. Education will usually help the individual and provider, but changing laws and politicians mindset is like trying to solve Chinese math by a child. It's almost impossible, but I still have hope. Again, thank you for what you do. Sorry I haven't commented lately. I was in the hospital in ICU for 4 days for pneumonia and heart issues, and I'm still recovering from the later as well as assisting my mother who had a stroke. Good news is that she's doing great and so am I. God speed kind sir.

I absolutely love your approach to medicine and how you articulate your points of view! What is your opinion on testosterone replacement for an individual that has been on 40 mg of methadone for 10 plus years? In South Carolina there is a extreme stigma surrounding methadone. I'm not sure how doctors in general view prescribing testosterone to methadone patients. Assuming the patient has demonstrated a need for the medication. I just fear they may be reluctant.

I figure you can’t answer these but this has been my issues with Suboxone: Can Suboxone have an effect on sleep to the point of waking up with shortness of breath? I can’t stand waking up and not being able to breathe for 5-30 minutes it’s after I wake from sleep but has been problematic for several months is there a way to test blood ph and can Suboxone affect that? Would it be worth trying to get off the Suboxone and going to methadone?

Doctor B I want to start a 5 dqy or up to 7 days detox using subutex as I’ve cut down my usage of heroin intake to less the 0.5grm per day. I’m aiming to complete this short detox in order to begin the Naltrexone treatment which works for me so better than long term MAT treatment. Please can you advise me on what dosage I should use for day one once mild withdrawal symptoms have occurred and the dose that will eliminate the withdrawal symptoms from day one. Then what dosage should I be tapping down daily to be able to begin Naltrexone treatment. After stopping subutex on dqy five then how many days after can I start taking the naltrexone. I think physicians generally define addiction to a drug as _having a compulsion to repeatedly take the drug even though it is doing more harm than good._ Whether a drug is being, on balance, harmful, or helpful, may be obvious, or it may be subject to argument. In some ways a physician is likely to have more knowledge and experience, about where to look for signs of harm, than their patient may have. For example, say her patient takes omeprazole. Then, by arranging for a blood test, a physician may notice that a patient may be deficient in vitamin B12, before the patient notices any effects from this deficiency. If the patient has been able to get his acid reflux under control by changing his diet, he may be doing more harm than good, by continuing to take omeprazole. If the physician recommends that the patient stop taking omeprazole, and for some reason the patient continues taking it, according to the definition of _addiction_ that I mentioned above, this patient would be addicted to omeprazole. He would be an omeprazole addict. Here the conclusion is obvious. But in other situations, whether a drug is harmful or helpful, may not be so obvious. And, like any scientifically educated professional person, a physician may sometimes confuse her cultural ideas of harm, with scientific ideas, and imagine that her cultural ideas, or claim that her cultural ideas, are scientifically verifiable ideas. For example let's say the physician is Roman Catholic, and believes what she hears from the Pope. When the Pope says using condoms to prevent pregnancy is spiritually harmful. the physician may find all kinds of scientific rationale for not using condoms. You can suffer anaphylactic shock from a latex allergy and die. Condoms, if you neglect to remove them from your vagina, will change your vaginal ecosystem and may result in vaginal infections. When enough condoms are flushed down the toilet it can stress municipal sewer systems. These are the scientifically factual reasons, although they don't seem to me, at least, to be very convincing reasons. But physicians have not always limited their "scientific" reasons to ones that have any validity whatsoever. In hindsight, efforts at cultural value salesmanship, seem easy to distinguish from science. But what about the nonsense that physicians say today? Up until around 1950 textbooks used to support some of the cultural values of the day, by teaching medical students that masturbation could cause diabetes. Physicians performed clitorodectomies to prevent women from masturbating. Don't take my word for it. Look it up. When one substitutes buprenorphine for diacetyl morphine, one is certainly substituting one drug for another. But whether one is substituting one addiction for another, is a different question. Before I would come to any conclusion, one way or another, or even just a tentative opinion, I would want to learn much more about both drugs. Just for starters: how toxic is each drug? How effective is each drug at relieving pain, or depression? What are the safe dosage ranges for each drug? What about the various effects of the drugs. Relative amount of sleepiness? Ability to use dangerous equipment while on the drug? Cost - how much money is this going to cost me? I tend to think that most people who jump to the conclusion that the substitution is substituting one addiction for another, haven't asked many of the questions I've asked, much less found many answers.

If you come off it very slowly, it’s not hard to come off. I’m very very sensitive to drugs and if I got past the 26 hr mark without it I get so sick. But I went from 8mg down to 6mg then down to 5.6mg then 0.4 down etc to 5.2mg all they way down to 0.4. In the U.K. we have 8mg, 2mgs and 0.4microgram pills. So I dropped 0.4 every 2 weeks with my drs help. I did end up relapsing but not because of the taper because of pain. I’d recently got an unknown stomach problem that left me crying in pain so I ended up using. I’m back on 8mg now but ready to go back down soon. Talk to your dr! See if you can go down 0.4 micro grams because then you don’t even notice it! Good luck. Take to your addiction dr!

I've been on Suboxone for almost 8 yrs. I slowly tapered myself down & got off of it for 2 months. I went back on it cuz for me, the Post Acute Withdrawals as far as 0 energy got me discouraged. I went back on it & I'm currently starting to taper again. Adter being on it for so long, its definitely not going to be easy. I now know what I'm up against & have to push threw the 0 energy. I will tell you tho, just being off of it for 2 weeks I genuinely laughed for the first time in years! It felt great! Its like I felt a fog lift off of me & was clearer. Good luck on your journey! It can be done! Just remember, we've been on this med for A LONG TIME so its not going to be a walk in the park. I know I don't want to be on this med forever so I'm starting over to try again to come off 😁 good luck!!

Love your videos dr b. Im on 4 mg of suboxone and recently upped my dose to 6 but had to go back to 4 as i felt increased anxiety. Have you ever had experience with that. I feel i could be getting more relief on a higher dose but cant seem to tolerate it.

Hey doc ty so much for answering so many of ?s with your videos. My dr I complained opioids weren’t helping with pain. I’ve been on opioids like 15 Yrs. So she put me on 2 /4mg, a day I took first dose I was hi as a kit, So I thought maybe my body needed to get used to it. I took the other 4 mg Again I was high out of my mind and felt awful. But my pain felt better than it’s ever felt in many years. So next day I split 4mg in 1/2. Did 1/2 in mrng and half afternoon still felt hi on only 4mg. So tommorow going to cut it in 3 ways. But from this video you say I should take it as directed I do not like to feel stoned. I got to be about my business I run a business.

Take less. 4mg is a heavy dose for people that took opioids for pain reduction and aren‘t used to giant abuse doses like addicts are taking. Maybe 2mg is enough for you. Ask your doctor. You can get high on suboxone and its extremely potent.

I jumped from methadone to suboxone......🤢🤮🤢🤮🤢🤮. Tapered from 130 to 70mg and switched. It was hell but years later sSuboxone is the only med I still take. I must say, compared to dope and methadone (both of which I've detoxed form repeatedly), also many benzos, I am not super intimidated at suboxone weaning. Still......I miss shooting dope every minute of every day and it's been years since I touched it (purely because it wouldn't work anyway).

How could someone prescribed a normal dose EVENTUALLY not feel sick at hour 23? Feeling sick at hour 23 is an inevitability. I was an "under dosed" patient at 2mg. Now im on 10 and every day there is discomfort. No avoiding it.

Also my general disposition towards everyone around me wasn't too great on 2mg. This was a problem that occured the second half of the day. I dont have that problem so much on 10mg. But waking up freezing cold is just part of the 24hr dosing lifestyle.

so where do i fit? i stopped snorting fenty on 1/3 then 24 hrs later saw my doc and started suboxone induction. i was given 4 mg and sent home. an hour later i felt no better or worse so i was told take another 4 mg. i immediately went into precipitated wd. i lost all control of my body as muscles flaied wildly then locked up and then i collapsed with literally sweat pouring out of every pore. doc instructed to take another 4 mg tab before bed and that was my day 1. day 2 doc told me to take 8mg 2x a day. i followed this too and al the while was taking the other rx's such as clonodine, trazadone, etc etc. but day 2 again i took suboxone as rxd and had zero relief from wd's. day 3 i was told to take 12mg 2x a day. so for 3 days now i been taking 12mg 2 x a day and have yet to rescive any benefot from suboxone whatso ever. i actually thought i was feeling better on day 4, but woke on day 5 now and regressed. again i have chills and am sweating like crazy. so im curious where you would place the blame here???? but bottom line is i did exactly as instructed and in agony. 6 days into induction and i have zero relief from suboxone butdef the comfort meds have helped

“Detox” is a very small component of addressing addiction, which is a complex physical/mental/social disease. People who think that a 7/10/30/60 day “program” will turn you around are deluded. Taking on addiction is perhaps harder than getting a super morbidly obese person down to 120 pounds and having them staying there for the rest of their life. And no, buprenorphine is not the equivalent of a gastric bypass.

Did it! A week out, No cravings, no desire at all. (I know I want to stay on my guard, but...). Trigger for me when it stopped helping with any level of pain relief. Personified, like some "chick"...Don't want me anymore? OK then f**k YOU. Then I don't want you! Had to put a chip on my shoulder. I tapered down, mega vitamin C & some E & D3, quit cold. In a few days started micro-dosing box, like 6 Pc's per strip once a day. Withdraws not as bad as I had seen before, in a week Done. No thought of going back to that nasty shit. Nope, it didn't want ME anymore? OK then I don't want YOU. Not any Need, it was a Want. And I no longer want. Good luck to you out there.

Suboxone saved my life. I was at my lowest taking oxy 30s percs, hydrocodone anything I could find just to function and I finally hit my rock bottom and me and my buddy found this doctor who specialized in addiction and so we went. I took the last of my pills the day before and started the medication first thing in the morning when my withdrawals started and it worked. I actually felt normal with a little bit of energy which eventually that went away but needless to say it work. I was on 8 mg a day and did taper over a few yrs to about 2 msg a day and it’s been almost 6 yrs since my last pill. Unfortunately my buddy didn’t last but about 6 months till he relapsed but it works for me. I’ve gone cold turkey several times and managed to stay clean for a few months problem was the cravings were still there. It might not be for everyone but I’m so thankful I found that dr. because had I stayed an addict I probably would be addicted to those fake percs with the fentanyl in them or be dead. There everywhere now. It’s scary

I’m sorry to say it but you can tell who wants a good life and success even though we are hooked on a substance. Always chase excellence, and your wife or husband .. We get all carved up inside like the days are carved in stone. Visit your family, take your wife out for dinner and a walk…and… lol. Life is good on Suboxone. Better than screaming at my wife in the morning because I’m out of Oxycodone. I really feel our significant others suffer greatly because of our addiction. I love my wife and desire her more every day. There was a time when I felt nothing. I didn’t want my wife flirting with me. She cried and thought something is wrong. It hurt so much because my. Wife is my life, my oxygen. I told her and she’s never left my side since. I can’t imagine my life without her. Love you Kelly.
