Good to see the POV of “non car people”... everything you went over is literally how any car works when you go for “chop”, the chop is happening because of scheduled inefficiency. You car will be perfectly fine. once you get used to driving around the inefficient areas, you won’t even notice you are doing it. The A/C compressor puts load on your engine so it pulls the idle down, not a “feature” of the tune but sounds good either way. No shade, just throwing stuff out there to let people know, nothing you went over is actually a reason to not get the tune.

@crowdsurfpp2192
@crowdsurfpp2192 3 жыл бұрын
@@isaacocasio3165 basically valve overlap/ valves being open at a non “optimal time” . For example in a pushrod motor, to be as efficient as possible at high rpm the low rpm winds up with “inefficient” valve timing. With phaseable Ohc you can tell the phaser to run at the high rpm “efficiency” at idle and you will get the chop. Cam chop is not harmful if done correctly. Lund does it correctly. Slap too much lift into a pushrod motor and you risk valve/piston collision, too much overlap/ duration can make that even more likely. Basically if you don’t have a full comprehension of how it’s gonna work, just contact someone who does. It will save a ton of $$.
@derek45x
@derek45x 2 жыл бұрын
The stock cams are actually pretty aggressive. The engine runs smooth because of the independent cam timing. They lock the cam timing at certain degrees and that causes them to chop.

I hear this all the time and it still makes absolutely no sense to me.
@unoranger
@unoranger 5 ай бұрын
@DavyDave1313 The coyote engine is equipped with 4 camshafts. Each camshaft has a camphaser. The cam phaser allows the camshaft timing to be advanced or retarded in relation to the crankshaft. By retarding the timing on the exhaust camshafts and advancing the intake camshafts you increase the overlap of the intake and exhaust valves. This causes the length of time that the intake and exhaust valves are open at the same time to be extended. The benefits are increasing horsepower and peak torque. The cons are loss of low speed torque/drive ability, rough idle, and loss of engine vacuum at idle. The rough idle gives the car that chopping sound that people like.

@@DavyDave1313 lope (not chop, chop is caused by the idle controller bouncing up and down) is caused by valve overlap. This means that the intake and exhaust valve are both open at the same time. On an old OHV engine, this is fixed, which is why they lope. On a coyote, you have independent control of the exhaust and intake cams so you can actually spread the valve events apart so there is no overlap at idle and then at higher rpms where overlap help the engine make power, you can bring it back. All the ghost cam tune does is stop the VVT from taking out this overlap at idle.

@@persianstig "Bad" being very subjective in this. People do these kinds of tunes and or cam upgrades because of how great it sounds and the trade-offs are well worth it in their eyes. Look at your comments section just as a single layer of proof. Better yet, look at your smile despite your entire click-bait video. Your video should be "Things to consider before doing a Ghost Cam Tune" as it would be more accurate to the actual video you made. You counter your click-bait title with your body language and one line of dialogue. Which is why it's ironic and I'm calling bs. I honestly clicked the video because I wanted to know if my choice to go with one could cause damage or be truly detrimental to my engine. There is value in getting stories from people who did it vs reading cold hard facts on a matter from the performance experts. I don't appreciate the fact that you wasted my time with your misleading title just to smile in my face at the end.

It is when you don’t know how to drive with it on the car, and yes it could cause harm to your engine (in the long run), you could wear your clutch more, or your transmission. It just depends as i mention. I’m glad you watch it though
@celineawproductions
@celineawproductions 2 жыл бұрын
@@persianstig Which is why you should have titled it "Things to consider" since learning how to drive differently is a good idea but it isn't required. Saying it could cause harm in the long run is grasping at straws. Could say the same thing about long-tube headers because they produce more heat and more heat in the engine bay means more ware on the electronics / plastics. Wearing your clutch and how hard you are on your drivetrain comes from driver experience more than anything else. Considering how tuned back these vehicles are from the factory and the ability for the stock components to handle power the wear you would see would be linked to riding the clutch or dropping it at high RPMs not from the fact that you have to be more precise on clutch engagement with your throttle. This all falls under "considering", not reasons as to why you "don't" want it. Example: I love the Voodoo 5.2 motor and don't give a crap about the vibrations and quite enjoy them actually. I would suggest that anyone looking at the Voodoo 5.2 motor to take that into consideration before building/purchasing as it can be quite unpleasant if you aren't used to that kind of thing. I wouldn't say it is a reason you don't want the motor as it has it's trade offs. High rev'ing monster, amazing exhaust note, and what you "could" consider the pinnacle of American V8 N/A design as there has been nothing like it to date released from an American manufacture. It is truly an impressive feat in engineering no matter how you slice it regardless of your opinion. Doesn't mean it's your cup of tea though. Ghost cam tunes are pretty awesome and allow for some great exhaust notes and more of an aggressive muscle car driving experience. This doesn't mean it's your cup of tea though but no matter how you slice it It is quite impressive that we can do it with a modern motor and that can't be disputed. Your whole video comes down to personal preference and realistic expectations of what you want. Own that and be proud of what you made. Stop pretending your video is something it isn't.

You have google at your fingertips to educate yourself before making comments. look up why camshafts sound the way they do and don't go on Mustang 6G or other forums. Go to Comp, Edelbrock, Crower, or call them to get yourself well versed on the subject of camshafts and also how an engine really works and I'm not being funny. This video and the related comments are what's wrong with society! I want my car to sound cool and for people to think it's fast, and I want it instantly without knowing or learning anything about cars (e.g. wow man clicking on the a/c made the idle change), but I want it to drive like my grandmother's Buick. ARGHHH.

Hey I just watched a video of a guy that does those tunes he explained that the tune is creating a misfire so it's messing with your timing at idol he explained that it doesn't really hurt the motor you are going to use more fuel. You might go through plugs more but all in all it's not going to hurt your motor. The tune is made to only engage at idle. I think it sounds great and honestly for the money we pay for these cars you think that it would have that sound from the factory. They would sell more cars right, everyone loves that sound. Stage 3 cams and Detroit rockers that's what I'm eventually going to do. Be safe no disrespect.

These are all normal BIG bam things, realistically even if you put real BIG cams in your 5.0 it wouldnt even chop it would idle smooth like normal. you need a tune to let the car chop regardless because it locks cam positioning at idle. you have 4 cams, its not going to chop like a single cam LS.
