A few years ago 21mp was considered plenty for pretty much everything. Now suddenly we're so entitled and so consumed with numbers that 24mp isn't "enough"... We need to gain some perspective.

Large prints can be printed at a lower dpi. Because the viewer looks at a 24x36 inch print from 7 or 8ft. away. The eye can’t distinguish tiny details at that distance. I have a number of large prints in my home. No one ever looks at them from six inches away but photographers. Some were shot years ago with 20 megapixel cameras. No one has ever said to me, “If only it were a 100 megapixels.”

Great video Samuel. I too think the R6 Mark II is the best camera I've ever used and I have 18 years of experience using Canon's best including their 1D cameras. Before I bought the R6 Mark II I did research to determine if resolution mattered. James Reader did a great comparison of the R6 (original), R, and R5 and shot with the best Canon RF lenses for both portraits and landscape. I downloaded his raw files, the Enhanced the R6 files in Adobe Camera Raw and output the raw file to 45 MP. When overlayed with the 45 MP R5 files, the Enhanced R6 files were sharper and more detailed! That's when I decided that I didn't need 45 MP from the R5 and got the newly announced R6 Mark II! Any size I can print (or crop) on the R5, I can do so with the R6 Mark II as well. Focus accuracy will actually make a bigger difference than the MP count and the R6 Mark II's AF system is actually better than the R5. For video one thing you mention is the lack of Clog2. However, what I am more surprised by is the lack of Clog1!!! I don't think even the R3 has it (just Clog3). Sure Clog3 has some advantages like greater dynamic range, however Clog1 has the advantage of being much cleaner in the shadows and being native at ISO400. Clog1 is actually much better for low light situations than Clog3. I really wish they'd add it back to the R6 lineup. Other than that the only other thing I really miss would be 4K 120. I do most of my shooting in 4K 60 though and the R6 II has the best 4K 60 in the business (aside from maybe the R3 which I suspect is similar).

Thanks man glad you liked it! It's such an amazing camera! Yeah the MP count don't bother me at all and really! That's cool I didn't know about that! Also yeah surprised there's no Clog 1. I may just have to have more lights so it performs better in the shadows. I would love 4K 100fps but I'm more than happy with 1080p 150 fps! So happy with this camera I've photographed 4 weddings now with it and it's a joke how good it is

Summary: Three reasons against buying the Canon R6 Mark II include its 24.2-megapixel sensor, which may not satisfy high-detail needs for landscape or product photography; limitations in video capabilities, lacking the All-I codec and 4K 120fps; and inadequate audio performance without XLR ports, making it less suitable for top professionals. Here are three reasons against buying the Canon R6 Mark II: Sensor Resolution: The R6 Mark II features a 24.2-megapixel sensor, which may not provide enough detail for users focused on high-resolution work, such as landscape or product photography that benefits from larger resolutions. Video Limitations: While it supports impressive video features, it lacks advanced options like the All-I codec or 4K recording at 120fps, which may limit its appeal for serious videographers who require these capabilities. Audio Performance: The camera does not come with XLR ports for professional audio input, making its audio capabilities less robust for high-end video production where superior sound quality is essential.

To my experience, clients don't understand difference between All-I and IPB. Even for weddings, IPB is sufficient. Clients are happy when you offer 4K. It is us, photographers, who think about the superiority of All-I over IPB. To the clients, capturing right moment at their wedding in 4K makes them happy :) Only if you're a serious filmmaker who aims to be on Netflix one day, you need ALL-I in CLOG 2 but the you will hire a cine camera, right?

Log is just better to work with, if you plan on colour correcting and grading in post. So it shouldn't matter if companies don't want log because they should leave it to the professionals to do the work. You obviously missed a few points here... the mic problem and missing XLR connectors you've mentioned aren't a problem at all... The R6 MkII has a 21 pin digital hot shoe on top for the exact same reason. There's external mics built exactly for this reason, automatically syncing with the video. Plus you didn't mention that it has full 6K ProRes RAW output via HDMI, making it possible to shoot way better video quality than All-I with an external recorder such as Atomos Ninja. It doesn't have everything built-in, that's right. But Canon left everything accessible with this camera. I love mine a lot.
@samuelmaynard84
@samuelmaynard84 Жыл бұрын
I never said it's a problem, you can easily use high quality mics with this camera, just not mics with XLR ports unless you use a XLR - Jack cable, which isn't ideal. So you'll be better off buying a cinema camera to get the better audio. I didn't mention that because you need to buy the Ninja atomos. An extra cost and quite a heavy cost as well. The camera can't shoot that on its own which is why I didn't mention it. Of course you can get the cable and use XLR mics, get a ninja to get 6K Raw which is why it's great that the option is there. I love mine so much it's such an amazing camera

I rented the Canon R6 Mk II to try before buying. I only shoot photos, no video, so I can say for photos it was impressive. I also rented a RF 100-400mm lens that worked well on up close bird photos. It tracked the eyeballs of the birds, and gave some amazing shots that were pin sharp. I do however track customer reviews apart from listening to KZbin reviews, and I found that concerning. I picked several places to read those, but the main one was B&H Photo, since they sell a lot of equipment. There seems to be way too many people having issues with the R6, R6 MK II, and the R5 mirrorless cameras malfunctioning, over heating, with features that quit working. You should check them out for yourself, because it sounds like the quality control isn't there with the newer product. I believe I am going to wait a while and see how things play out before I spend the money. I have a lot of expensive EF glass that worked fine with the the adapter I also rented to try out, so I am kind of stuck with Canon. I can take great pictures with their tried and true DSLR's for now.

I don't think you have anything to worry about with performance from this camera, especially with taking photos. It won't overheat unless maybe it's a super hot day and your spamming 40fps all day potentially. I've had no problems at all so far, i've not shot that much video but that's been fine as well. The R6 on the other hand will overheat for video and i think the R5 has gotten better. You'll be fine I think, unless you live in a super hot country then i'm unsure on that.

@@samuelmaynard84 The more I dig, the more I find out. Because there is so much information on line, the first 7 months of this year have been very informative. I have shot pictures all of my life, and I go way back into the 35mm film era. I have only started paying attention to the camera market since maybe the last year. I decided to purchase a 90D, which I considered to be enough, and it is a good camera. What I didn't know about Canon, or most other brands was their ASP-C lens suck, especially on a 90D. After struggling with that I purchased some L glass at a very high price, and now I get way better shots. In my opinion, I should have known that up front, but most of the people on KZbin weren't discussing that, they only tried to hype it up as the best camera ever right out of the box. I am on a 90D Facebook page, and 80% of the people there were very upset about that, because half of their shots were blurred and out of focus with the kit lens, which at the time the EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS NANO USM was a $600 lens. Most of those people can't afford L glass. That is why I am going to wait until enough people prove a camera after using it extensively. From what I am hearing, most camera channels on KZbin are afraid to discuss the negatives, but people that purchase the cameras are not. Facebook pages for different camera bodies are one of the best places to hear the failures of different models and brands. Not KZbin.

Well, two of the reasons are aimed at video shooting which I have little interest in...As far as landscape photography is concerned, there is a workaround if you absolutely need more megapixels. You can make panoramas by taking multiple shots of a scene and stich them together in post processing. Then you can even go bigger than what the R5 allows. Obviously, if you are a pro, you probably know all of that already. I appreciated the video nonetheless. It confirmed that the R6 Mark II is perfect for my needs.

whats your thoughts on Mark II vs original R6 for super lowlight video recording? was wanting to do some night work with recording star movement, but also motion tracking with mapping to 3D rigging for animation in dim to lowlight at higher FPS (non 4K is acceptable in this case, fps would be priority) oh also a lot of water stuff, recording fish movement in how they move tail, fins, etc but idk if thats applicable. maybe for the fast shutter speeds edit: if the cinema series is one youd actually recommend over the R6 MkII, which of of that series would you prefer for the super low lighting environments i mentioned previously?

@samuelmaynard84 Жыл бұрын
I've personally never used the canon R6 but it is quite similar. Both are amazing in low light because of the low megapixels but I have noticed it doesn't have the best shadow performance as it can get very noisy sometimes. I think that's a fault in CLOG 3 in my opinion. For the cinema line your best bet would probably be the Canon R5C because it is full frame but it's restricted to clog 3 again. The Canon C70 i think is the best bet, it's super 35 sensor and not full frame but it records at a duel gain output which is amazing for dynamic range and it shoots in clog 2. It's an absolute beast and the image is lush. The C70 may be overkill tho unless your earning money from video work or if you just have money to spend! Haha! I think the R6 Mark II is a great choice because it can also do unreal photos and it has some amazing video features, plus it's a lot cheaper than the other 2. The R6II Also has 150 fps in 1080p which is brilliant! I hope this helps!

R7 or R5. R6 is right in the middle: much lessrolling shutter than the r7, but not enough megapixels like r5 or r7 for wildlife photography. Better than r7 in high ISO. If you don't shoot in low light and don't care about rolling shutter when using electronic shuttle, take r7.

I understand for wildlife photographers because of the extra reach and megapixels but for the majority of other photography and videography the R6 II is the camera to go for

I have been on the fence between r7 and r6ii for wildlife/birding photography. Like you say, rolling shutter, bad buffer and lack of fps options with the ES put me off the r7, but the r6ii doesn't have the reach due to being full frame and not crop like the r7 nor the 30+ mp. Which would you choose for wildlife paired with a rf100-500? Do you think the reach just wouldn't be there on am r6ii?
@BOLANGTHANG
@BOLANGTHANG Жыл бұрын
@@wildlifesimon for wildlife, if you cannot get the r5, the r7 is the one you get to pair with 100-500mm in daylight. R6ii/r6 is super good in low light, if you ISOs are usually higher than 6400, the r6ii/r5 is the one you get.

A really down-to-earth video about my beloved R6ii. I use it for add-on-shots when I go out with the camera-team for my tv-work but I really miss the XF-AVC-codec. Anyway this codec on the R5C is 810mbs and that's too much data. The C70 is has it with 410mbs but it a bit huge. Maybe the R5ii might solve the problem but I am afraid it won't have All-i at all.

I love my R6II man it's unbelievable. Nice one man sounds good!! I can't wait for the R5 II definitely will be the camera to replace my EOS R to pair with the R6II. Going on the R6 II it might not have all I but with the price point I recon it'll have it

This video is nonsense with the clickbait title. There is no camera on the market for all purposes. All you arguments werent your own, you didnt compare the r5 and r6 printout, you didnt compare all-i and compressed video files by yourself. You are saying dont buy it and praise the camera few secs later. I want my 8 mins back.

It boils down to price and destination. If it’s for KZbin the R6 ii is fine.

ALL-i codec should be a simple basic firmware update. IPB codec is just a HOG for the CPU esp. for PC users like me. Why don't canon Listen to their customer. I bought the R6 Mark II on launch day and I was extremely excited but no so much now after almost a year. Me too I won't recommend this to anyone. I regret buying R6 Mark II. Canon r u LISTENING. WTF

I still recommend it, I love this camera and I personally think IPB is fine for most scenarios, plus the reduced file size is nice

I'm not asking for any of this to be in this camera, I say it's perfect for the price and perfect for so many people but if you do want them extra features then you'll have to pay more money and get an R5 or cinema camera. This is easily one of Canons best cameras by far

A 24mp camera at that price in 2023 is a joke. I want to know what percentage of photographers use EF lenses with an adapter and not the native RF ones, that is a disadvantage in image quality. From what I see you use an adapter and cannot give a reliable verdict.
@samuelmaynard84
@samuelmaynard84 Жыл бұрын
A 24mp camera is amazing, you get so much for your money and it's not all about megapixels, Some Sony's have 12mp and cost more money. There is no disadvantage in image quality at all so i can make a reliable verdict because I use it in the real world all the time, plus the majority of people who will buy one will most likely adapt EF lenses to save money, which is the smart thing to do.
