VERY interested in this follow-up video! QUESTION: In females, does male-pattern thinning at temples only (not unusual thinning overall) indicate a purely hormonal imbalance/issue or can it also be accelerated by lack of protein and the other items you mentioned in the video? Also (wading a bit into the supplement zone) is DHEA protective against hair loss? My functional medicine doc monitors my blood work quarterly for balance with the bio-identical hormones I've taken for 2 years with amazing results (lowest dose T with no previous problems, estrogen, progesterone, Thyroid NT...). Seems like my male-pattern thinning started when DHEA suppliers were backlogged and I wasn't able to take it for 2 months.... Ftr, I'm scheduled to see my doc next month and will also address this concern with her.

I wondered why my hair thinned over the years, was it genetic, was it stress, was it diet, was it poor digestion, is it low protein, is it low thyroid. TY for sharing your experience it has help answer so many questions 🤓

I also experienced significant hair loss when I was in my first year on Carnivore. I was definitely under eating protein and also fasting OMAD most days of the week. Combine all of that with a stressful job as an ER Nurse and I had huge bald patches in my head. These days I try not to fast more than 18-20 hours more than 1 or 2 days per week and I eat a minimum of 150 grams of protein every day.

Vitamin D deficiency causes hair loss too. Maybe it was going outside and getting sunshine that helped your hair from falling out. I know I had my blood work done and found that I iron and my vitamin D were both low after three months with efforts to increase those two things I noticed that my hair stopped falling and now was just beginningto thicken up again
@Chickitychick

In regards to going outside and grounding, I’m sure you were able to get a lot of sunshine and increase your vitamin D levels. I know I got my blood work done and I had low ferritin/iron and my vitamin D was low at 45 so for the last three months I have worked and increasing those numbers and a couple of days ago got my blood work back again and they are definitely up into healthier arranges. My hair has stopped falling and is just beginning to thick up again having low vitamin D three is also one of the causes of hair loss.

My sister and I went on a very strict ketogenic diet 3 years ago - sub 20g carbs. She was determined, and was on it for over a year and half without fail. Unfortunately, after about 6 months, she had developed that classic female pattern baldness (arrowhead shape), and was bad enough that she had purchased wigs. After we had hit our weight goals, we went off the diet, and her hair grew right back in without any product. Having looked into it since, I’ve surmised it was the extreme nutritional deficit that brought on her hair loss - in particular, a lack of magnesium, but no doubt she had become deficient in many other things. So, summarily, if you’re going to do these low carb diets (and you should!) nutrition is everything. Pay attention to the nutritional content of your meals, and if you can’t get what you need, take supplements!

I almost died!!! On 10/11/24 at about 4am I went via ambulance to Intermountain Health Medical Emergency Services in Salt Lake City (actually in Murray UT), was immediately admitted to ICU. I am a type 2 diabetic who had diabetic keto acidosis! (And this is important because we are NOT SUPPOSED to get that!!) But it was atypical, my sugars had been relatively low (I had finally woken up with a 108 BS according to my CGM! Yay! No dawn phenomenon!!!). I was ON the keto/ketovour diet and was doing pretty good, but I was ALSO ON JARDIANCE (SGLT2)!!! That combination almost killed me!! I was feeling sick for a few days, and had thrown up a few nights ago. I thought I just had the “keto flu” you hear about, and so I just tried to push through it and ugh, boy did I feel yucky! Things finally came to a head when at about 3:30am in the morning as I was “trying” to sleep I started hyperventilating! It was as if I had tried to run a marathon at a sprinting speed, my lungs wanted to explode. My whole body was hurting and spasming. I was dizzy, too wobbly to walk or get out of bed. I also threw up then and it was BLACK... I remember thinking “Hmmm.. I don't recall eating anything BLACK! What the heck is THAT!?” I finally admitted I needed to go to the hospital because I needed PAIN KILLERS to help me with excruciating pain, I also figured that black vomit was not good, so ya, please take me to the hospital! I ended up on life support. I can have my husband (a doctor) help me decipher the medical records, but my “health” markers were WAYYYYYYYY OFF! One important “buffer” needed for life was unreadable, meaning I had NO more “buffer”. My blood acidity level was also up off the charts. So anyway first thing they did was try to ask me questions, kinda hard as I was going in and out of consciousness. I remember vaguely the ride to the hospital, being rolled out of the ambulance into a metal room (or maybe just metal doors, I don't know?”) being lifted/transferred to the hospital stretcher, then rolled into another room, then a team of about 8-10 ER staff all surrounding me. The questions were “what was that from” (from me groaning in pain) “where does it hurt” (everywhere) “can you be more specific” (ok I'll try... my back, my stomach, my legs, my feet...) I guess they were trying to figure out if I was having a heart attack before they did anything else. After a few more groans in pain they said “Lets get her some morphine” and I immediately got some relief. But I was still breathing REALLY HARD, that didn't slow down until much later on, I'll have to go view my medical records to figure out when that was. The rest of my time that next 24 hrs is kinda a blur. I was trying to sleep, but they were waking me up trying to prick my finger to see what my blood sugars were doing every hour, and they were drawing blood for labs often, and they were waking me up to see if I could do any physical therapy, and I was asking them to please UNTIE ME from the IV's from both elbow pits & from the compression leg thingies tying both legs down to help me get to the toilet so I could pee. I wasn't allowed to eat or drink for 24 hrs. They didn't even want me sipping on water (only allowed to chew/swallow ice chips), because THEY were giving me water via IV and they needed to know exactly how much water went into me, and then as I was peeing into this container they were measuring how much fluid was coming out of me as well. Ugh. I'm just tired again just writing/reading this all. Ok, next phase. Next day I am transferred to the regular hospital floor. They are now giving me insulin shots. But I am dismayed, because I did not WANT insulin shots! I was trying every which way but loose to AVOID insulin shots! The diabetic educator was trying to convince me I needed insulin shot prescription. I was being a pain-in-the-butt because I kept insisting I did NOT want insulin shots! We were at an impasse. They were looking at me like I'm crazy. And I was just having SUCH a hard time. I do over react to stress and that can make my BS go UP. Shots/pokes/jabs drive me crazy! I have a complete meltdown internally, meanwhile outside I'm trying to hide that. My poor sons inherited this from me. When they get labs drawn or get a shot they faint! They are fully grown men and they are fainting! One time I was trying to show my younger son how my glucose monitor worked so I pricked one of his fingers.... AND HE FAINTS! So ya, they inherited that from somewhere, and that somewhere was ME! Now I'm getting “poked” more than a hundred times a day it seems! And they have me on insulin, for the first time in my 15 years with diabetes I'm on insulin. But to tell the truth the insulin DID SAVE MY LIFE!!! AND THE GLUCOSE ALSO SAVED MY LIFE!!! How confusing is that?!? It's confusing! Anyway, I'm having a hard time because what I WANTED TO DO (do Keto, no insulin!) was not what THEY wanted me to do. I am battling the medical establishment.... AND MY HUSBAND THE DOCTOR TOO. Ok, so 24 hours in ICU. Then the next day I am transferred to the regular hospital floor (oh ya! REALLY FUNNY STORY associated with that!!! I didn't sleep a wink after that “visitation”!!). And now it's the next day and I will be discharged from the hospital. We have a meeting with my ER doc. And he has consulted with some hospitalists & endocrinologists. They very clearly decided that my problem was NOT the keto diet! My problem was the JARDIANCE ON the Keto diet! They released me saying “No insulin, NO JARDIANCE, you can do Keto” End of story!! YAY!! So now instead of spending more than $800 a month on diabetes prescriptions (no more Jardiance, Invocana, no more Metformin, no more ANYTHING!!) I'll instead be spending that money on LOBSTER and eating that with BUTTER & LEMON, and I'll have a side of RIB EYE to go with that!!! Cartman of South Park was correct!!! “Tell the President to have a little steak with his butter!” I hope I survive this new diet! We will see!! Wish me luck! So anyway I'm writing all of this with the hopes to GET THE WORD OUT!! I was looking out the window of my hospital room as we were talking with my doc, we were sharing that the ER staff was saying “we see this all the time” and I'm thinking “Well, that is WAY TOO MUCH then”. And the ER doc was saying “well, its not all the time, maybe once a month” and I'm still thinking “THIS IS STILL WAY TOO MUCH!!” People with type 2 diabetes are out there, and they are getting SICK AND TIRED of this disease PROGRESSION!!! Do we keep going with this PROGRESSION? Do we lose our sight and go blind? Do we lose our Feet? (I've got horrible nephropathy in my feet! I'm scared!) Our Legs? My thumb? (because that is constantly hurting me and is numb, is my thumb dying and am I going to lose my thumb?) How far and how long are we going to let this disease PROGRESS?!? Can we get off the merry-go-round of gain more weight->become insulin resistant->have higher blood sugars->take insulin shots->gain more weight-> etc and on and on. No people! NO!!! We are TRYING TO GET HEALTHY! We go to the store, we buy the GOOD stuff, we learn to cook it the right way and say “oh DANG, that is YUMMY!!!” We might even (if you are like me) lick the plate clean leaving our poor puppy nothing. So ya, back to my point, how many type 2 diabetics out there ON JARDIANCE who want to give this Keto thing a try? Because I tried it 3 times, 2 times I failed.... because I was likely about to go into DKA back then too, and I stopped it by giving up & eating CARBS (and thereby continuing on with my disease progression)... not by GETTING OFF JARDIANCE!!!!! I have a HUGE question..... HOW MANY PEOPLE WHO HAVE SUFFERED WITH KETO FLU WERE ON JARDIANCE or other SGLT2's? I would seriously LOVE to see a survey done to ask that question! I'm writing here because this IS THE TARGET AUDIENCE!! Please help me get the word out!!! GET OFF JARDIANCE or other SGLT2's if you want to STAY ON KETO!! Thank you for reading this! Stay safe! God Bless!

You’re a good story teller! It kept my attention! I think you’ve made a great point here. My dad has type 2 diabetes. I know he can beat it in short order. I also know if he simply jumps into a natural intervention it’s likely going to turn out badly because of the medications he’s on which are not going to allow his body to function properly. So I’ve told him he needs to work with his doctors to reduce and ultimately eliminate the need for each medication. But I haven’t ever even hinted that simply making a sweeping change would be a good call. Nevertheless, this story is an excellent example of what medications like Jardiance can do. They will augment a natural state which your body will go into when you don’t eat for a while, ketosis, and cause it to be incredibly toxic to your body. That’s pretty serious! Without the medication, it’s likely you can mitigate the keto flu with sugar free electrolytes.

My mom started losing her hair a few years ago. A dr put her on testosterone. Fast forward to Mother’s Day this year when everything snow balled. She fell broke her hip and got secondary septic double pneumonia. Her body swelled up like a balloon and she was in the hospital for over a month unable to heal and get better. The drs finally checked her protein. It was critically low and said she was malnourished. They said her protein is so low that’s why she is swelling so bad. She did end up coming home on hospice but after iv albumin and increasing her protein she discharged Alive off hospice in August and her hair has started to grow back. Of course I give praise to God for turning all this around because she was on deaths door. But everything escalated and snowballed due to her protein being so low. Had we known a few years ago when her hair started falling out and increased her protein then I think she would have been able to bounce back from the broken hip faster.

Hi, Laura. Not sure if you say the latest story with LMNT, but hopefully you did and will think twice before promoting it again. They are adding 400mg of maltodextrin to their packets, and disguising it as "Natural Flavors". At this point, it would just be safer to make your own electrolytes, but I also think people don't need them as much as they think they do. Salt your meat as you normally would, and you will get everything your body needs just from eating that. More information if you wanted to check this out. Hair loss for women… such an issue it seems. I have went through same issues over the years. I am two months in carnivore. I am sure I am not eating the recommended protein, but my hair stopped shedding pretty quickly into the diet. I may start losing down the road, who knows 🤷‍♀️. However, I do not limit my intake other than I started eating higher protein foods early and mid day. My sleep was off. So I saw someone recommend doing protein earlier and fat later in order to sleep good. So far it is working. 4 days in and sleep is much improved. I will eat some butter in the evening and right before bed. My sleep has improved. I don’t think everyone has the same protein requirements to be honest. You just have to see what works for you. However, since hormones seem to run everything, I believe fat might be overlooked. Try increasing your fat if the high protein does not work for you. I also think it is beneficial to tak b vitamins even while in carnivore. I also take c, D’s, magnesium, ( fish oil recently) and I also have been taking about 3 drops lugols 5% iodine. Sometimes diet just is not enough to be optimal for good hair. I also do the rosemary oils in the scalp . I am growing new hairs in and shedding has greatly reduced. So we will see 🤞

I've had severe hair loss twice and it was due to drastic diet change (and undereating protein), stress, and illness. Telogen effluvium. Body is stressed, hair is shut down and energy is used for more important functions. New growth was crazy, a bazillion new hairs growing out all at once... you could see the new growth layer coming in.
@TheGoodWin777

Why was new growth crazy? I don’t want to assume here but are you implying you added more protein, or?
@labellavita2248
@labellavita2248 2 ай бұрын
@TheGoodWin777 both times when I lost tremendous amounts of hair, it was due to being ill and drastically changing my eating. I didn't recognize it at the time, but I went low protein. Once, it was a juice detox/fast, and the second time, I was sick and decided to go very low carb. But because I was sick, I was barely eating for weeks, so I was also eating very low protein inadvertently. I had no appetite. I lost more than half of my hair over about 3 months or so. It slowed down, seemed to stop, then finally began to grow back. When you have a thousand little hairs grow back all at once, the hairs stick out like fuzz, they are too short to lay down. It takes some time for them to get long enough to look decent. That's what I meant by crazy. My hair strands are fine, but I have a ton of them, hairdressers frequently comment on how thick and heavy my hair is. It was stressful losing so much hair, but it eventually grows back out. And yes, now I pay more attention to protein.

Sadly women have been misinformed and conditioned to listen to mainstream media who's agenda is to keep people deaf, dumb and blind. Women's intuition is real and we gave been programmed to deny ourselves and ignore ourselves to feed someone else's agenda. Our bodies are wise and tell us what they need. It's our job to listen and honour ourselves without denial or deprivation. Healthy Protein and fat keeps us satiated, satisfied,feeling pleasantly full happy and energized. Processed frakenfood is high in sugar, bad fats, chemicals, carbs, its artificial food. It's not a substitute for nutrition but a recipe for disease. Corporate greed conditions society to consume so they profit. Society gets sick and the pharmaceutical companies profit. Now weight loss and the health industry has become profitable. We need to reclaim our health with home cooked nutritional foods of our ancestors and turn away from the " fast food " that is deteriorating our health fast.

I don't give, I had also the Idee that is to low protein because I under eat. I was also vegan, vegetarian. I'm now more carnivore . I got gut issues before and now I feel great eating no bread, grains. Every time I eated I had stomach pains d by tests showed hight inflammation in the body. Testing carnivore I was able to compare more easily how quick I get sick from another food that is not compatible with human needs. Also I cut de nuts and seed or avocado, to much anti -nutrients, just soaked nuts sometimes. And very important consume beef and calf liver . I don't have a year since I eat like this and I have the feeling I have some baby hair.

It is also important to consider a couple of things: 1.) Get enough fat and cholesterol. This is your energy, this is your hormones, this is how your neurological signals move around your body. It also keeps you from getting the snack-y kind of hungry throughout the day. 2.) Be honest with yourself. Are you sneaking in caffeine? It's a neural constrictor and diuretic that dehydrates you by pushing water out through the skin. It disrupts hormone transmission, and can even cause dandruff or waxy buildup on your hair follicles.

If you do a variety of protein sources, it helps. An egg white has more protein than the yolk, and it's less filling so maybe eat more whites. Eat high protein Greek yogurt, add cottage cheese to your diet, along with regular cheese, walnuts... adding these things to meat will help bump up the protein intake. Some brands if bone broth contain 10 g protein in each 1 cup serving. I just found this out so it will help.

@@ForGodsGlory70 Hi! I’ve since increased my dietary heme iron intake! Also, I didn’t bother filling the Rx script for ferrous sulfate tablets which is the protocol. I wanted to attack this as naturally as possible. I learned that there’s an enzyme that prevents excess iron absorption, so the 65mg elemental iron is too much to be absorbed. So, I also supplement with heme iron capsules from Three Arrows Nutra which has 20-25mg iron per capsule which is available to the body, not blocked. My hgb is now at 14 from a low of 7. My ferritin is now 58 from a low of 6.

AGREED Laura.. at a min 1 gram of protein/per desired pound of body weight. With that said.. you do have to adjust this to come in line with your daily activity and your body recomposition goals. I personally shoot for a min of 150 grams per day..based on my body recomposition goals. I'd tell ladies PUT ON AS MUCH MUSCLE MASS AS YOU CAN... Especially if you're 40+. I'm not saying body builder level.. trust me you are unlikely to get there accidently.. you really have to work pretty hard to get there. Your goal is to loose viceral fat/sub Q fat and tone up "a lot". You are correct Laura.. Ladies go get a good blood panel done - you need to know where your hormones to include thyroid. Find a good Naturapath..they are generallly and more often more in tune with Ketogenic & Carnivore life style vs a traditional MD DR. Sad but true. About calories.. this is rather unique situation.. all the online calculators at there will tell how many calories you should eat to either maintain your weight or get to a desired weight.. They as qestions like age, gender, weight, height and activity... and I can tell more often than not THEY ARE TOTAL CRAP! I would not reccomend using them as a gauge or a baromter.. cause.. vasty they are wrong if you are eating tight/clean KETO or Carnivore... Especially if you're Carnivore.. They had me about 600 to 700 calories too low..even when I mark highly active... rofl..shocker. The most difficult part is trying eat enough.. I try not to focus on the calories per se, but rather the amount of Protein, Good Fats and insuring my carb intake is well below 20 grams per day and it is closer to 10 most often. You really should and need to get out there and move your body. WALKING IS A GREAT WAY TO DO THIS.. Add some resistance training and you'll be amazed at how quickly things change.

But the summary is that there is a bodily response to sudden changes to body… it can occur even after events like surgery. Sudden extreme diet changes and weight loss are possibilities. Intermittent fasting omad/omad for a few months made it virtually impossible to consume beyond a certain amount, including protein. My hairloss was obvious. So I rarely fast now. Once I reduced the 9-10kg I needed off, I returned to maintaining meals. My hair stopped shedding. I hope everyone finds out their root causes.

Dr bright does not recommend 100g protein per day if you’re getting enough fat and iodine

When i was a strict vegan , my hair literally shrunk!! It got so thin and looked shorter! When i started to incorporate eggs, fish, and chicken , my body literally started to thrive. My hair was actually growing again!!! It just goes to show you need animal protein , not protein from broccoli!!

Ive lost hair 3 times...2 when i changed my diet, once frim a virus. The first diet it scare me so i stopped the diet. The next was doing carnivore. Even though i eased into it i still lost a ton of hair. I got really depressed. I started healthycell for hair, scalp massages and oils, all the hair growth stuff and finally started seeing babyhairs after 2 to 3 months. But, now i worry it'll happen again it was so devastating. Im glad i stuck the diet out. Im more ketovore than carnivore

Advice needed! I’m going to freeze dry hard boiled quail egg yolks…for dog treats…but I’m thinking they would make an awesome base for carnivore snacks too! All ideas are welcome!!!

We need more salt, but balance it with potassium. My husband was in the hospital for several days. He has high blood pressure, but low sodium. The dr gave him a high sodium diet but told him he needed to balance it with potassium food and supplements. I was blown away that a dr in a hospital would tell him to eat more salt with high blood pressure. When he went home he continued to take potassium supplements. He doesn’t use blood pressure medication.

Laura, I really want to include these electrolytes, but I'm so worried about my edema......and afraid to ADD additional salt. Do I need to be concerned about this, or will the LMNT help me balance?? Thoughts?

Undereating is a major issue...even Dr. John McDougall said that. If you are restricting calories, the protein you do eat will be burned as energy instead of maintenance and growth. If you don't eat many calories (me) you need a higher amount of protein. Just like vegans, a lot of keto people actually don't eat tons of protein. They eat tons of FAT. Disclaimer...I'm vegan. I've had hair loss issues since 1995 but after menopause (I'm 58) it got A LOT worse. I'm addressing this on many angles. I've re-started progesterone cream at 2x the dose, I'm using red light therapy, upping my vegan protein intake (via supplements if necessary), doubling my vitamin/mineral pills again (had cut back), back to using rosemary oil at night (with grapeseed oil...which also blocks DHT), etc. My iron, etc. levels are good and my thyroid is good. I'm kind of obsessed with this now. I'm determined to get some hair back even at 58! I've had SEVERE insomnia for many years. Right now, a couple of changes are helping that.

My biggest fear is towards hormones. As a woman we know how different we are from men. The first time I tried carnivore my period got weird and it freaked me out….

Your water can be a factor, as well. The last few years my hair would just break off and I finally put a filter on the shower and it's made a big difference.

Research indicated levothyroxine was more effective taken at night than in the morning. I coordinated with my endocrinologist and made the switch.

My hair shed a lot and started going grey shortly after starting intermittent fasting. It took me over a year to figure out when it stated and likely caused it. I stopped intermittent fasting and will choose to fast less often over a longer period of time

I notice it more when I'm not eating enough protein. But, I also have Hashimoto's so it could also be when my thyroid hormones are fluctuating too much. Hard to say, or maybe both, who knows. :)
