I'd like to know...if you DON'T use any products in your hair (seriously, I don't, I can't be bothered and I feel like it's a waste of money for me) then what do you think of no shampoo? I've been off shampoo for years and I don't have the issues I used to have with oiliness. Also best types of brush for different hair types. And how to tell what kind of hair you have. All I ever do is brush my hair and stick it in a ponytail (can you tell I'm a very practical person who just wants it out of the way!)

I’ve been on a carnivore diet for 3 years. In the first year, I experienced significant hair loss. When I went to the salon, they were concerned about doing a hair rebond because a lot of hair would fall out whenever they touched it. I noticed even more hair fall after shampooing, so I started wetting my hair without shampooing most of the time, which resulted in less hair fall. After 2 years on the carnivore diet, I went back to the salon for another hair rebond. This time, I noticed a lot of hair standing upright in different lengths-small, medium, and large-which looked like baby hairs. I asked the salon technician if it was hair breakage, and she said no-it was new hair growth. From what I understand, the carnivore diet might cause the body to let go of weaker or damaged hair roots first to make way for stronger regrowth. It's like pruning a tree-cutting off the weaker branches so the tree can focus its energy on growing healthier ones. Over time, the body repairs and prioritizes areas that need attention, leading to regrowth. I also realized that our body is incredibly intelligent-it knows what to prioritize. It’s like a commander in war, deploying most of the army to the areas that need urgent attention while temporarily reducing support in other areas. This may explain why hair regrowth takes time, as the body focuses on repairing critical functions first. I don’t think this hair regrowth process is due to the shampoo or any specific treatment. I believe it’s just how the body reacts to protein. I didn’t consult anyone about this-not even at the hair salon. When they asked what shampoo I use, I just mentioned a simple one because they wouldn’t understand the effects of the carnivore diet on the body. I’m 44 years old and now have white hair, but some of the new growth is black. I’ve noticed that hair growth improves significantly when I consume beef broth. I also braid my hair and expose it to sunlight, which seems to encourage black regrowth.

Great info! Much needed to this community. I have been carnivore for 4-5 months. The falling started 2 months in and I’m seeing a lot of new hair lately. On another note , my husband has salt and pepper hair and since going carnivore we recently noticed more pepper than salt! His hair is becoming less gray with the new growth. I’m amazed

I'm very interested in this topic, but I'd love some more practical specifics: How often should I wash my (fine, chin-length, product-free) hair while it's still falling out? Should I comb it wet or dry, or not at all? Should I use conditioner? Are there particular shampoo ingredients I should avoid? Do things like hats and scrunchies interfere with regrowth? Can the regrowth process overlap, time-wise, with loss? Should I be keeping my hair as short as possible? Do regular trims have any effect on regrowth? Would love a nitty-grittier follow-up to this fairly broad conversation! Thanks!

I love this video! I have suffered from hairloss since I was in my mid-20s... and I'm 53. At one point I was diagnosed with Androgenic Alopecia by a dermatologist and told there is nothing that can be done for me. I saw hairstylists for YEARS and no one had a single solution to offer me, it was so disheartening. I struggled to believe that there wasn't a single stylist out there that didn't have other clients with hair loss, but no one seemed to know anything and didn't offer me any advice at all (no one talked to me about scalp products, or heat styling or anything). One even talked me into hair extensions which was not at all appropriate for my type of hairloss (diffuse on the top of my head). Finally about 6 years ago my hairloss got so bad that hair fibers weren't helping anymore so I turned to wigs. I often wonder if someone had been able to help me like you helped Laura, if I would have been able to hold out longer or even avoid wigs... but the world will never know, lol. I sent this to my daughter (20 years old) and hope she pays attention and starts to take care of her hair and scalp.

So, I started full carnivore on 1/20/24 and lost 111 lbs (so far). At the end of March, I saw my doctor, he did a full blood panel and was happy with my A1C, cholesterol, Iron, D3, but found my thyroid was hypo. He prescribed me Levothyroxine. By the end of June (so 3 months on Levo and 5 months Carnivore) my hair was coming out in clumps a quarter or slight more sized. My hair got SUPER thin. Then, in August, I noticed all of these new baby hairs sprouting up in all of the places I saw the thinning. And now in November, still Carnivore and still taking Levo, my hair is growing back fast- I’ve got at least 2.5 inches of baby hair growth. Now, I DO look like I’ve stuck my finger in an electrical outlet if I don’t shellack it all down with hairspray, but I CAN report that if you stay the course, AND see your doctor, your hair WILL begin to grow back.

A note of encouragement--I'm about to celebrate my first year anniversary as a carnivore--and I too lost a ton of hair, so much so I was embarrassed and scared to go to my hair dresser because of the amount that kept falling out every time I washed it!!! This was about four months into carnivore. I found Laura's video about carnivore hair loss and followed her advice (especially about increasing my daily protein consumption--I was no where near consuming the recommended daily amount (about 1 gram per pound of your ideal body weight)). I added a scoop of bone-broth collagen to my morning coffee and slowly but surely I've been experiencing re-growth to the point that I now feel like my old self when it comes to my hair--with the reassurance that it is growing back! Think when I went 'cold turkey' on crappy eating I shocked my body and it went into preservation mode and conserved energy for life-sustaining tasks other than growth and maintenance of hair!

I'm 62 and have curly salt/pepper hair which I'd call "course" and I have quite a lot of hair on my head. I've always had a lot of shedding and from time to time, a bit more. What is the natural amount (approximately) of hair we shed on a daily basis? I have been following the Curly Girl Method (Lorraine Massey) who recommends not shampooing all the time and instead, using a good conditioner and massaging the scalp in the shower. She feels most shampoos (with sulfates) are too harsh for hair and she also recommends non-silicone conditioners. I rarely use shampoo on my hair but instead I wash it with conditioner. It helps keep my hair more "controlled" and less frizzy. I don't notice any trouble with my scalp or hair. I'm curious what Brandi thinks of this method. Curly hair is a very different animal than straight hair.
