My father does this very well. I always noticed it and found it interesting. In my adulthood, however, I discovered that my father is a sociopath. I confronted him, and he confessed to me that he learned how to do this to manipulate people. He says he doesn’t care what they feel, as long as he gets what he wants from them.

Damn I’m so sorry to hear that having to go all the way up to adulthood just to realise your dad never actually felt those emotions hope you doing ok bro

These videos can be studied by narcissists and sociopaths but at the end of the day - when someone lacks empathy and wants to hurt you or is using you and doesn’t care, someone who is spiritually discerning would start to notice red flags. When you start wondering who someone really is behind the mask they wear and notice signs, the truth will arise. Just like how you noticed your dad does what he does to manipulate people rather than an actual interest in genuine connection. He sounds like a hot mess but I hope you’re healing. Sociopaths have no capacity for love so I’m sorry you have someone in your life like that. My dad is a narcissist and sometimes I’ve wondered if he was a sociopath.

The only way to gain respect is to earn it! Act respectful. Have a backbone but be nice. Always be honest, but be kind. have good morals and be true to them. Do this as a way of life, not to look good or show off. Do it for yourself and people will see it.

Most people want someone they can identify with and will listen to them with a certain level of admiration and respect. People are so desperate for any crumb of empathy or affection. It's always surprising to me how much information about their personal life they will divulge if you simply say nothing and listen. Talking gains you almost nothing, because you already know what you know. Listening can give you heaps of information, some of which would take weeks of effort to extract. Listen more, speak less. It also makes what you say more impactful.

🚩Only Entitled disrespectful people "command" respect. People with guns 'command' respect. Don't be a Vladolf Putler. ☮️Genuine souls will _Elicit_ respect, _Encourage_ respect, _Evoke_ respect, - and all the while: Demonstrate respect. ⚠️But only people who _don't have respect_ will Command respect from others that it be given to them. Just Toxic.
