Alex, this is where I really struggle with my kicks. At 66 I find that I am very tight in my hips and SI area. It is especially difficult to lift my left leg to a parallel position for a side or round house kick. These exercises are helpful but I have to progress very gradually so as to avoid injury. (Maybe I should switch to Tai chi!) Thanks for the inspiring videos.

Great tutorials. What do you think is a good volume to aim for regarding kicks/day for beginner, intermediate, advanced and elite level kicker? I do 500 kicks 4-5 times a week and am an intermediate kicker, should I bring up the volume of kicks more?

I'm not really that good in Taekwondo, but i think you should just work on your form and power while kicking. Quality over quantity I guess.

Focus on quality and time management! If you are able to do it 30-60 min a day with At least 10 minutes stretching and leg strengthening exercises then your good.

Hey Alex awesome video as usual! I just wanted to ask you if you watch sparring matches on tv or the internet? I'm preparing for a tounament and I thought watching some matches may be useful to learn some tactics, but I don't know what to watch besides the old olympic games, which are super boring because they stop after every kick to argue. Do you (or someone who's reading the comments) know of some tournaments that are more fun to watch?

Hi to all TKD practitioners and any other martial artists. I have been looking at some martial arts videos specifically around the Taekwondo Kicks. Now, my question is: Why do Taekwondo practitioners use the heel of their standing leg when they send a kick? I only ask because I practice Choi Kwang Do (Or CKD for short) and we are told that we have to use the ball of the standing foot when kicking. Do you think that it might have something to do with generating a powerful, controlled and creating a kick that carries momentum when travelling forwards on the ball of the standing foot whilst kicking? What's the difference between using your heel and using the ball of the standing foot when kicking? I'd appreciate it if someone could help out. Cheers.

I think it depends on what kick you are performing. For a chop kick, you use the heel in order to create more damage (or power). But the downside is, that doing this on a hard surface or with lots of power makes it risky causing it to shatter/damage your leg since the heel is aligned with the res of the leg
