Do you have any secret 808 tips that you wanna share?

That knob under pre computed effects beside boost. Turn to the right to add beef for kicks and 808s and to the left to remove it for hats and shit. *edit It's the "eq" knob
@user-lt2rw5nr9s4 жыл бұрын
Waveshaper or Saturn on the 808. Saturn if you have it. No limit to creativity, but the craziest 808s I've seen stick to at most four notes, so don't overcomplicate the bass line itself.
@user-lt2rw5nr9s4 жыл бұрын
DirectWave has a built in tuner in it if you right click the 808 zone. It drops it down a few octaves on the keyboard though.

Direct Wave is one of the most slept on plugins in FL Studio. I forget exactly how to do it, but I remember seeing a video on how to use it to sample VST instruments to save CPU.
@NavieD4 жыл бұрын
Yeah it can allow you to replace your plugin and sample every key instead. Really helpful also if you are collabing and the other producer doesn't have a specific plugin

I believe the reason why is exactly the problem Navi was having with the "cut itself" function. When you turn on the envelope, the cut itself won't work. If you make the square envelope, it cuts itself off automatically because there is no tail; the sample only plays for the length of the note. The direct wave plug in seems like a better solution.

wow. that envelope tip about not making it a square is amazing. I got that technique from a drill producer, where it's common to have the 808 shaped like a synth and I translated that into my trap beats. this makes it way better, thanks

Glad I could help Lucas!
@user-lt2rw5nr9s4 жыл бұрын
For the square, I drag out the notes. It's mainly because I don't like the tail at the end of the pattern. Otherwise, leaving it is fine.
@NavieD4 жыл бұрын
I hear you. It's definitely a useful thing to do, especially if the beat needs it. But I guess my thinking is that at that point it's no longer an 808

I used to box my 808s. The purpose isn't so much to cut the tail but just another way to prevent bleeding in some cases. When I used it it was mostly on a case by case basis when needed I'm which case I would drag all the notes out to preserve the amount of tail wanted whole still preventing bleeding. It was basically another way of using cut itself. After awhile I figured out that I could make a really small cutoff note at the end with the velocity all the way down. Which is the way I do it now on my MPC. Only I don't use samples anymore. I build custom 808s out of a sub preset on TubeSynth for every beat now. A tutorial on building custom 808s would be awesome! If you haven't already done so.
@NavieD4 жыл бұрын
Yeah I definitely hear you. Boxing your 808s is helpful, but at that point it becomes more of a sub bass than an 808 at that point. Luckily DirectWave gives you control so you get the best of both worlds

I only have headphones to monitor so maybe that's the reason but sometimes when I make 808 patterns it sounds great and in key in my headphones but when I listen to it through my phone it sounds off key maybe it's because I can't hear the fundamental notes through my phone speakers because it's too low and I can only hear the odd harmonics(or even) which I guess sounds off without the actual fundamentals. Also, it usually happens when I'm working with clean 808s which doesn't have a lot of saturation or distortion. It's not a problem because I fix it by changing the notes but it's a weird thing because something that sounds in key suddenly sounds off in other devices.
