I have truly been enjoying and learning a LOT from your videos. I am so glad I accidentally bumped into the first video I saw of yours. I am amazed at how much I have learned in such a short time. Thank you so much for sharing with us :-)

It's a lot easier to clean up the white spots before you leave photoshop. Select the image with the Object Select tool. Clean up the selection edges with the lasso tools as necessary. Apply the selection as a layer mask. Use replace color (image/adjustments/replace color) to remove colors as needed. Just select colors and crank the saturation down & brightness up. Apply a light gaussian blur to make the white flecks in the the large black areas into fuzzy light grey blobs. Use levels or curves to push the dark greys to black and light greys to white. If you use levels you're going to push the sliders for highlights and shadows really close together. Exactly where you put them will depend on the original image and the effect you're trying to get. If you use curves you'll have a really steep S curve somewhere on the line. Most of your dots will be gone without having to manually clean them up in your vector program.

Thank you. Al is sweeping the world now. People create unimaginable art. Moreover, many are free for commercial use. No law is passed till now.

An you do this vectorizing and background eraser thing in Inkscape? I don’t have photoshop. Appreciate any help you can provide.
@Lizzardward Жыл бұрын
I mean, can you do this in Inkscape?
@craftystax Жыл бұрын
The eraser in Inkscape generally only works on vectors (it is not really like Photoshop eraser). There is, however, a free graphics design website that is similar to Photoshop: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jZ7GhJaEgqmlfdU

Do you use inscape to clean up and vectorize vintage images? When I download public domain pics I want to sharpen them before using them for POD.
@craftystax Жыл бұрын
Yes great question - I do use Inkscape to clean up the images. I did a video here on how you can do that: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oXm2YmqJpNSFlaM

Nice video. I have a question, Zen. Why make an SVG file at all? I've seen many KZbin POD tutors advocating using the PNG file directly onto merchandise such as T shirts and mugs.
@craftystax Жыл бұрын
Yes great question. A PNG file (or a JPEG file) is used for print on demand. The SVG file would be used specifically to cut or engrave. I did a video that shows how an SVG file is used on a laser engraving machine: kzbin.info/www/bejne/epXFiKGMiruNoLM

@@eyecandy5984 the other factor - my favorite reason for using SVG files - is that as a vector graphic, it's resizable as small or as large as you like without any decrease in quality. You can't do that with non-vector files.

thanks a lot for this video, i m wondering if is it legal to sell it?
@craftystax Жыл бұрын
Yes it is legal to sell it as long as you are using public domain images. The comic books on Comic Book Plus are public domain- you can do anything with those files - there are no copyright restrictions.

Totally agree. I personally love Photoshop so I get where you are coming from. I get requests on Inkscape specifically because it is free (and lots of people can't afford any paid option). I do agree, the higher-end options are pretty awesome.

I'm not sure what you are asking - these are public domain assets, so there are copyright restrictions on these images. They are super old comic books. Many people consider using them commercially as a tribute to the original artists. To each their own I guess.
