Those code bases are useful, just not as useful for industrial automation. If you want to go into industrial automation, learn ladder logic, structured control language and statement list and learn some python for scripting.

No problem...there are careers who has only programing and designing.. Wiring and hardware session is done by other set of team compsny has a programming team and hardware team...
