I feel very proud that my country has the most tigers in the world the Royal Bengal tiger. In 2006 we had around 1500 tigers but now there are around 3500 tigers in the wild. My nation is doing a lot for the conservation of this magnificent cat. And my state also has the most tiger increase from around 170 to now 360 individuals in the wild in my state

I have said this before, but in case of the Japanese otters, I think it would be the best to introduce Eurasian otter in Japan. It would be wonderful if the Japanese Otter would still be around, but the chance would be very slim and even than the amount of healthy individuals that could reproduce would be very small. It would be better to introduce a similar species that can take over the empty niche and recover an ecosystem. And when you are still at it, also introduce wolves (at least in Hokkaido) and Californian Sea lions
@AashaugNorway
@AashaugNorway Жыл бұрын
Eurasia other can recover but it can destroy the ecosystem too, after many fish in japan are over fished and close to extict.
@TheSoulCrisis
@TheSoulCrisis Жыл бұрын
@@AashaugNorway Yeah Japan loves fishing........and they were super aggressive whalers too. It would face immense fishing competition with humans, still I like the idea of introducing similar species to fill in niches since that's how it was originally. We are driving so many species to the edge of extinction over time. Animals get hunted for sport or out of fear, but it's really not fair to them.

There was a possible Japanese wolf sighting in a Japanese national park in 1996, the animal came within several feet of the witness (probably out of curiosity to figure out what he was) and the witness took several photos of the animal as well, bob gymlin did a video on the Japanese wolf and when he showed the photos, I barely contain my excitement, because of how crystal clear they were

I lived in Florida for a few years and I worked a few construction jobs in the Merritt Island nature preserve. There are so many rare species on the island such as the West Indian manatee, wood storks and the gopher tortoise that it wouldn’t surprise me if the Ivory billed woodpecker made a home there and is slowly recovering. I’ve seen a handful of woodpeckers out there as well but I could never tell them apart

@AFloridaSon

Good possibility, but there are more sightings in Tasmania and mainland Australia than in PNG. There's also casts made of paw prints in Australia that are presumed to be from the thylacine. There are some expert academia type that believe that they could have existed in Australia at least up until the 70s or 80s. There's some interesting photos, although none are perfect enough to be conclusive. But, there is lots of circumstantial evidence, to suggest that they're still there in Australia. And, there's lots of Aussies who are actively looking for them. It's only a matter of time.

Sadly, with the present rate of extinction being what it is, and particularly bearing in mind the size and habitat requirements of both the otter and tiger, I would be astonished if either were still around. The woodpecker is marginally more likely, as there appears to be some suitable habitat extant and they weren't subject to deliberate persecution.

Keep in mind, that the ivory billed woodpecker also went extinct due to a airborne fungi known as chestnut blight from Asia which was affecting American chestnut trees. American chestnut trees are now functionally extinct. Much of their population relied on these trees for homes and large spaces.

Did you mean the barbary lion? African leopard comes up when I search barbary leopard. I saw something saying that clouded leopard was spotting in 2019, nearly 40 years after anyone really saw one. Companies like Colossal Biosciences, that are looking to bring back extinct animals, are "for profit". They have invested that they will need to pay back. They won't make an animal that is 100% the same, although they may look and act the same. But, the companies will have parents on them, sand they will be regulated by the company, because it's an income for them, and they're not going to want others breeding them, and they will first be sold to zoos and private collectors. Even if they succeed, it will be decades _after_ they succeed, before we see any of them roaming freely in the wild. They will just be more oddities for humans to pay to see, but the animals will pay the ultimate price by living in cages for our enjoyment.

What many people overlook is the basics of populations. Even if there were a few of these species around, they would still be functionally extinct. Firstly the habitat would not exist to allow much, if any population growth, Second the genetic diversity would be very low, and so they would be more prone to the effects of recessive traits like low fecundity or even sterility. I would love for the ivory-billed woodpecker to still be around, but I do not believe it is. I think conclusive evidence would have been had by now. None of the so-called evidence I have seen holds up.
