I've had IBS for decades. Going to the GP was rubbish, although this was in the early 2000s. My GP now is great. I've cut out food, etc. No change. I had a colonoscopy in 2022 and I'm clean as a whistle! And miraculously, my IBS stopped playing up so much. The moral of this story is: don't underestimate anxiety. I know, it's not what you want to hear. I was stressing out big time and anxiety has always been an illness for me, but finding out I didn't have IBS, cancer or even polyps was so relieving. Keeping life stresses under control is the most difficult thing, IMO.

Please, if you have IBS symptoms, also have a colonoscopy/endoscopy to rule out any cancer. Yep, when i had the colo-rectal cancer symptoms, they perfectly mimicked IBS symptoms. I became quite sick over 10 months, & luckily ended up in hospital, having tumour & part of my sigmoid bowel removed successfully, as Stage 2 Adenosarcoma. Long story, but go get tested. Please!! This interview is interesting, as i had lots of antibiotics in childhood.

I had H-Pilory and it almost killed me!- it got into my blood stream and started attacking my heart. Thank God i have a fab GP who worked out what was going on through a stool test and gave me powerful antibiotics.

The one gut-related medicine I have in my cabinet is oral rehydration salts. Living in a country where the water supply can be dodgy, diarrhea can strike any time.

We’re living this fight and fruit, nuts, vegetables have made symptoms WORSE. Meat based keto gave us solid movement, no blood or flares. Biggest issue I have is the inconsistency in the medical advice. Nick Norwitz did a video on Frontiers | Case report: Carnivore-ketogenic diet for the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease: a case series of 10 patients I suggest reading entire study in description of his video.

Jeez, your podcasts calms me down. Hearing all the fear mongering on social media, i almost started to believe that I'd die young 😅. I eat lots of fruits and veg, but also the occasional "bad" stuff. It's nice to hear a voice of reason. Thank you!

The level of pissed off I was when I saw a gastroenterologist last year... if been having really messed up bowels for the past couple of years. I went and was expecting a colonoscopy especially with my family history and you know, being sent to the emergency department twice with 10/10 pain and I couldn't walk... he said I have IBS with no tests and to go get antidepressants. Sooo I am now seeing a new specialist and he is doing a colonoscopy and endoscopy so hopefully I have some answers soon because yeah, I don't want to be crippled on the floor in pain in the middle of my shift again and sent to ED in front of my colleagues

yeah, about your complaining about the self diagnosing - well, enough patients still get the "I can't help you, it's all in your head"-treatment and if you suffer from pain, cramps, diarhea, constipation, bloating which will affect your ability to go about your day-to-day-life and all the medical professionals you consult sent you away without explanation, without taking you seriously, without even checking anything or a referral to a specialist, you just lose trust in medicine and there we have an answer to the question, why scharlatans, esoterics and influencer are on the rise, as well self diagnosis. Modern medicine has fucked up real time and even if scientific studies are now more controlled about being ethic, the daily attitude and treatment of patients harms not only the patients, but also medicine as a whole. The gender bias in studies, diagnosis of diseases has not helped with this. Some of the real licensed medical professionals who also do influencing like you, Dr. Mike, and others sometimes do takes on this, but as soon as you are back to talking about a specific topic, you completely forget about those problems and you're back to blaming the patients for being dumb, antiscientific, not knowing the criteria..

I went to a dietician and told them how bad my diet is and how difficult I find it to change, they did absolutely nothing to help me, they gave me the general advice I could find on Google, told me to avoid anything with stuff that has OL at the end, I already knew it was alcohol because I'm a hypochondriac, I've drank twice this whole year I didn't need that "advice". My diet isn't varied at all it's beige as fuck and they know I'm autistic so I expected they'd tell me exactly what I need to know but they told me nothing, I do trust people like "what I've learned" more than a nurse who told me "you don't have to worry about your heart until you're my size", how do we tackle misinformation when our nhs staff are part of the people spreading it? I was 15 stone at 15, the reason I'm not obese now is because I spent 2 years doing every drug under the sun, I'm almost certain I've had a minor heart attack before and I have a family history of it. Wherever you are in the uk it's probably better than Wales, but I can't trust these people at all, that same nurse gave me antibiotics and 4 days later I almost died as they weren't near strong enough, the hospital told me I would've died the next day if I hadn't come in. The reason I trust "what I've learned" is the fact he's open minded, the small minded nurses almost let me die due to the fact they're far too sure of themselves.
