I lost around 40kg on the keto diet, and a lot of it I would put down to what was said here. My mind was so focused on keep me in ketosis that would forgo everything like coke, chocolate, etc. My eating habits change, my CICO changed, my mind changed. It was also self referential, I slept better, I felt better which then made me think that the diet was working and thus the greater need to stay within the diet. I liked the food, I liked the feeling, I liked how things were changing and I had better self control.

I'm so glad that Dr. Mike has positive things to say about keto. I've been doing keto for a few years. I did lose weight but I have vastly improved mental health. That state of mind helps me to be motivated to move every day. There is a good deal of information out there that keto helps with mental health. I'm so discouraged when I hear health professionals speak against keto. Dr. Mike is a great motivator. This interview was so motivational and inspirational. Both doctors are really helpful and I'm beyond grateful that they have a big presence online.

I think the only real issue comes when someone potentially has high cholestrol to begin with and opts for keto or goes to the extreme (hardly even consuming certain veg sticking with more salad at most) causing them to feel unwell in the long run and then as soon as they attempt to eat carbs again - even in smaller amounts, they gain weight rapidly and come to people like me (PT&Nutritional Advisor/Coach) saying "nothing" is working. I have to explain it's water weight - carboHYDRATE .. you can't gain that much fat in 2 days, it's normal to notice weight go up and that shouldn't be the sole focus... fat, muscle, water, protein in the body can matter more in some cases and keeping a balanced approach is best. Keto is great for some people (like my father who has type 2 diabetes) , but its not for everyone... I cant do keto , super fast metabolism, can't digest fat very well , extremely physically active etc. My body thrives on carbs. Just goes to show how different we all are, what work's for one person may not work for everyone.
@nichtsistkostenlos65654 ай бұрын
I have no problem with keto specifically, I have a problem with keto people claiming that keto is the only diet that anyone should do, same with carnivore. There's a very cultish, chronically online group that believes this aggressively. I've tried keto twice in my life and couldn't get through a month without getting severe brain fog. I also do fairly intense cardio, and my workouts suffered. Not everyone is the same, and it's just not for me.

Keto also raises your resting energy burn rate. It's a tiny effect in most people, but there's outliers who can eat several sticks of butter on top of their pre-experiment maintenance diet for a week and not gain weight.

@@diablominero that is also doable with other foods. When you are at the threshold your body can adopt to a higher calorie intake due to homeostasis. Swhy there are phases in diets where you would consciously slowly increase your calories so your body can settle at higher calorie learning to burn at a higher calorie before going into a weight loss cycle

I eat a lot of junk food, probably I feel like a lot more than the average person, I struggle to just switch to purely healthy food how would you go about switching diets? take a slow paced switch over time and have the occasional sweet food when I deserve? when I was a child I was never aloud the foods I eat now and as I got older I found that now its all I want. I also struggled to drink healthy too but now I'm switching to sugar free flavoured water or aloe vera drinks as its something I've always enjoyed
@annwilliams64382 ай бұрын
Slowly, but surely, add in more plant foods that haven’t been ultra processed… as you go along keep adding foods that are as close to natural as possible and crowd out the junk food. Also, if you are drinking cold drinks, start adding in more water each day. Another hint to help: learn about using herbs and spices (NOT just chilli and salt) to make you natural food taste fantastic.

How do you recommend around 200grams of protein a day, divided into 4-5 meals, but then say that the theory that we can't digest more than 30grams per meal is completely false? Just. How?
@JessieDeeRiver5 ай бұрын
Because there are nuances between how you're consuming the protein and what type it is. Dr. Mike isn't big on absolutes, so he's saying that the sweeping generality that 30 grams per meal is the max you can digest is wrong.
