@@ClarionCaww fun fact: only Volvo’s XC90 has a top safety pick by the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety). Their seatbelt striped logo and generally ugly cars (apart from this one) make people think they are a top choice for safety when Tesla and other manufacturers beat them in the safety game long ago.

It looks like the speed is at least in very large text on the center screen, but having it directly in front of the driver is much better. If I decide to get this car, I am debating putting in a phone or tablet holder right in front of the steering wheel to link to OBD to out useful information there. My worry is that will become a flying hazard in an accident.

I'm glad someone said it. EX30 looks good, but promo ad video tried too hard to convince people by saying "we have less in this car, because that's what reduces footprint". Having to look away from your wheel center to the screen on left only increases reaction time & is distracting. They should have done a HUD. The other thing I don't like is missing Air vents for rear seat row.

What I'm even wondering is the function or the necessity of the sunroof.. During winter, I can understand people want more light in the car. Even though I find it debatable. During summer however, the car is basically going to be turned into your private oven (with or without a sunroof). So, what is the mileage that you'd have to trade in just to keep cool in the car?! If the roof had been fitted/ligned with solar panes to expand your range, that would have been a big plus. That would have been innovative. I mean, there even could have been some sort of automatic shielding for when the batteries are full or up to 80% capacity.

@stormglass2882
@stormglass2882 Жыл бұрын
@@willielarsson9651 Yes, my point exactly. It's more of a preference thing and if you take it, you don't even care or consider the fact that it might make the car less fuel efficient. It used to cost more as it used to be an after-manufacturing process; sometimes even done at the dealer's shop as you might know. Nowadays, with modernized factories, I can imagine it can be a cost-saving feature since you're saving on materials and only building the roll cage of the car and glueing a glass (or plastic) sheet on top.

For the sake of safety, needing a month to adapt is a month too long. The driver should be able to see speed, gear, and charge without adjustment. I’ve driven in European and American cities in cars with GPS directions in front of the driver and only on the center screen. When navigating in tight circumstances with lots of traffic, a quick glance down is far faster than looking to the right. I’ve spent more than a month using each system.

I have to agree.. the sensor to check if the driver is awake or not, just like lane keeping stuff, is not needed or wanted. Statistically people falling asleep behind the wheel is negligible. Now, information as to how fast you are driving, what your remaining range is and warning lights.. that is essential! It could have even been fitted in the same space that the sensor is using. Especially in a car that accelerates this fast and in which you basically have no sound to clue you in as to how fast you are going, needs a dash display. If it had been a truck/lorry, which can cause a lot more damage, I would have concurred that the sensor is needed. It has nothing to do with lowering the carbon footprint or with safety, it was done to save cost. Same goes for the single frontend speaker. Marketing can sugarcoat it as much as they want, but for me too it is a definite no. Very dissapointed after being so excited and having waited for the relase of this one. (And he didn't even mention having to open the glove compartment via the tablet instead of a simple handle/latch.)

I would have one ordered right now if it had a driver screen or at least a head up display. It's so sad. It would be the perfect car for me. Even if it only featured the speed. I like to know the speed at all times and it's important to have it in front of my eyes for security reasons. Then we have other car from the competitors that feature both things. Which means that a head up display is a must for the Volvo EX30, even if it's sold as an extra. Totally agree with Volvo_Kristian and many others that commented. Volvo will loose thousands of sales due to this.

The single display could be OK if they implement a Saab-style dark screen mode. I have owned many vehicles and I can remember some that had the speedometer' view obsructed by the steering wheel and my hand or arm. I found it irritating because I always had to lower my head to see my speed. One thing the I don't understand and don't make a lot of sense to me: - fastest Volvo ever, a lot of power and goes from 0 to 100kmh so fast. It means that the car will be very quick and fun to drive and accelerate, and also means that you have to pay a lot of attention to the speedometer. Removing the speedometer from that position means that you have to dislocate your vision to the right, which is more complicated and take more time to bring it back to the right position of the road and also the brain takes more time to assimilate that. It means a lot less security by driving on a higher speed or acceleration? I might be wrong and hope so. I'm no scientist and have zero knowledge on that matter, but I think the brain reacts differently for different eye movements and have to reorganise that information so quickly to you to make a response. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe it works better. I can't imagine Volvo doing a step back on security features. Maybe it's our perception that is wrong. Have to try it to understand it.

After paying £43000, I don't expect to have to retrofit a basic safety feature like a HUD to my "super safe" Volvo.

Totally agree! Plus would say give me a leather interior option, (lexus lbx is much more luxurius interior with a proper dushboard) because sorry Volvo but Nordico is a massive amounth of words just to make me digest plastics seats. Sorry but i hate it. Green wash at it best. For the glass sun roof i couldn’t agree more! Bravo 👏🏻. For instace I live in italy and in summer time is not possible to drive my XC40 without blinding the glass roof with the curtain. Instead in winter is nice to add light to the cabin. Is not a matter of temperature, is a matter of lighting which in very sunny days can in many case gets you blind while driving.

Funny way to described the Nordico. Many words but plastic seats 😂 Totally understand your point there. But it actually feels pretty nice. However I would love to get a leather option as optimal. But at the same time it doesn't bother me that much here in the EX30. In the EX90 on the other hand I think the missing leather are more controversial and risky. Potential dealbreakers for some customers.. And yeah. Regarding the sun curtain I can't understand why more and more manufacturers doesn't include a curtain as well. Much more practical.

I'm considering some Volvo EV models for the future. In regard to the center display, I was firstly upset with that, but then I reconsidered. Mini cars also have the same configuration and we can get used to it pretty quickly. Volvo is clearly cutting costs in order to offer such nice cars on a competitive price range.
@Banyan314
@Banyan314 Жыл бұрын
£43000 isn't a competitive price. It's about average for this level spec. Kona is looking like a better deal with more space and decent driver displays. Battery tech in the Kona is disappointing though.
@cmeluzzi
@cmeluzzi Жыл бұрын
@@Banyan314 I'm sure that the Kona is a nice car, but I wouldn't compare it to the Volvo in terms of quality of materials, safety features, interior design and overall feel. I think that the EX30 is a step ahead in this regard. But that can be subjective, as it is also a matter of personal taste.

I strongly disliked the lack of driver display in the Tesla Model 3, but it centered more around the blind spot info being in the center screen. I am optimistic about the EX30 configuration. The blind spot is still in the side mirrors where you’re already looking, so just the speed in the center. I’m going to choose to like it until I test it out and find out for sure, but my gut tells me this won’t be a deal breaker. The huge glass roof, however…might be reason enough to get the mid spec and miss out on the 360° camera 😢

Taking your eyes off the road to use touch screen and no driver display is crazy, the car looks amazing but Volvo were always about safety first and these design decisions are not safe. I've owned three Volvo's now and I love them all but this trend of no physical buttons puts me right off.

Great exterior design and would be a handy citycar. However, the interior features yell cost saving which is a deal breaker. I.e. Capacitative steering wheel buttons, odd placement of window switches, lack of driver display and flimsy front cup holders. Also really cheapo looking door panels and electric seats only available in ultra spec. It’s a shame as the car had great potential.

Volvo is loosing it with the XC/C40 and EX30. The interior in XC/C40 reminds me of the old Toyota RAV4. The missing speedometer and middle consoll in EX30 is terrible. Sorry but this is not good 🫣

When I glanced at the interior I immediately assumed it would have a HUD. I like the "virtual cockpit" or HUD displays on other cars. I don't want to have to glance right for info. Don't know if that pushes me into "deal breaker" territory or not. Love the design! I am one of those that has never liked ANY Tesla models.

Dealbreaker for me. There is no reason that could justify the omission. I hope all reviewers criticise this strongly in hopes that Volvo changes it. I know teslas sell like crazy but there is also a massive aftermarket for driver displays. If Volvo don’t offer the display and don’t at least make aftermarket options easy then this will bomb.

@@volvo_kristian Samsung, made outside of china. I picked Samsung because of that. I drive a Ford made in Europe and a 1976 Volvo made in Sweden. I own stuff made in China, but its stuff where you basicly cant make many choices. But even in power tools I try to pick Bosch Professional series because its a small chance they might be made from European quality parts, and its owned mostly by a charitable foundation. But as a regular man, price matters. Everyone can make a consumer drill though. But selling cars in the west is hard work, and us selling our trusted brands to China is a historical mistake. You can make choises in life, and since you answered with a silly emoji thinking you owned me I decided to be an asshole. Oh, and Im a Swede and a Volvo crazy nerd. I love the Swedish part of the brand and the products they have made and makes. But the Chinese ownership sucks and the fact that we fund the Chinese government with our knowledge and brands is a god damned shame. Buy a car that is American, European, Japanese or Korean. If you buy a Volvo, buy one made in Sweden or the States. Its simple really. End of rant.
