Chris, one of the things you didn't like was her positions in 2019 differ from what they are now. You do understand, don't you that she was running for President in the Democratic Primaries so she wanted to appeal to the base. That's the normal course when it comes to party politics. Now, she's already got the Democrat base locked up, so now she needs to appeal to more of the middle (which, when it comes to frakking, she needs to get votes in Pennsylvania). Also, one of the things you liked was her non-answer. I think she missed an opportunity to add something like, "You know... That's Donald Trump's shtick. I'm more concerned about helping the American people."

Feel free to fact check me here. She didn’t insult somebody’s race. She didn’t shit all over the sacred place where soldiers who died for our country are lain. I would argue that Dana Bash was rehashing Trump's tawdry insults and accusations as rediculous "interview" questions. As for Harris's altered opinions of the past, I offer this: When the new chancellor of the equally new West Germany, Konrad Adenauer, was accused by a reporter that he changed his mind too often, he adroitly replied, "I reserve the right to smarter than I was yesterday."

1. She learned that we don’t need to ban fracking to make clean energy progress 2. Her values have not changed but has come to recognize the importance and practicality of bipartisan consensus to address problems with actual solutions 3. She’s talking about the almost ten years now of the Trump era where hate and division have been damaging our society and threatening our democracy from a man child who can’t seem to stop running for president There. This is not even my analysis, I’m literally just paraphrasing what she said in the interview. Listen better.

Yeah! blame the person listening...for not listening well...when you had to make some very stretchy deductions...to come up with the 'paraphrasing' you did. It's a politicians job to communicate well...and as he said..she knew this questions were coming for a long time...why not just speak clearly? why have people paraphrase to be understood? they could literally deduce the exact opposite e.g. what if the 10 year comment was a dig at turning the page at older white men...which would include both trump and Biden? I mean it would be on message? I don't think it's what she meant...but someone could deduce that...and it would be a legitimate deduction. In short...don't blame Chris for his 'lack of listening well'...when the speaker was deliberately unclear.

Agreed, mostly. Didn't hit it out of the park, didn't strike out. I was disappointed in the way Walz answered the "carried weapons in war" question. His answer was evasive, sounded rehearsed and he thereby pretty much abandoned the "plain talking, direct, no bs" vibe he's trying to project. A simple "I messed up. I didn't mean to steal valor, but I messed up my word choice" would have sounded better to my ears. That said, that issue is a nothingburger, at least to me. She should go solo next time, if there is one....

Harris can say that her values haven't changed but how she intends to approach these problems has evolved with the times and where the nation is right now.
@TheFireMonkey
@TheFireMonkey 15 күн бұрын
Regarding the statement "My values haven't changed," I can't speak for her, obviously, but if I were asked this question, I would honestly say that my values have remained consistent for at least the last 55 years. However, my stance on many issues has evolved. Why? How? It's simple: my understanding and knowledge of the world have expanded, and I'm applying the same values to this broader understanding. For example, in 1975, I was firmly right-wing on most issues, though I've always opposed war, believing in fighting only in self-defense or the defense of others who have been attacked - a view typically associated with the left. Back then, I thought right-wing policies were the best solutions to most problems. But as I dug deeper, I noticed that when these policies were applied to economics, the results were often negative. Unemployment increased, purchasing power decreased, and the wealth gap widened - trickle-down economics didn't... This realization led me to reevaluate other beliefs. I saw that the hard numbers didn't support many right-wing positions. As a result, the same values that once made me right-wing now led me to the left. Today, my views are more mixed because I've learned that sometimes the best solution is a right-wing one, and other times it's left-wing. Overall, I've become more left, on some issues, I'm aligned with Bernie Sanders, while on others, I'm more center-left or even center-right. But in all cases, I'm still applying the same values I held in 1970 - I've just grown to understand the world better by focusing more on hard evidence than on rhetoric. I suspect this is also her case - by actually doing and being involved she has realized that the real world effect of some things didn't fit with her values as much as she had thought it did, so because her values have not changed, her position had to change.

I agree that she didn't fully address the fracking issue, but the bit about her values not changing makes perfect sense to me. Maybe I'm bringing my own perspective into this, but it lines up with how she talked about the importance of building consensus. It's about what works towards an end goal. I'm sure that politics played a part in her shifting positions, but that's not necessarily a problem. Something can be a good idea in a vacuum but a bad idea in practice because it can't get the support it needs. I'd frankly be worried if somebody refused to change their approach in light of new observations and developments. You need to adapt to conditions on the ground. What's that adage about war? No plan survives contact with the enemy? It's a similar kind of thing. And I prefer a pragmatist to an ideologue who sticks to their guns heedless of reality.

Harris's CNN interview and more broadly, her time since she became the nominee strike me similarly. Separately and together, Tim Walz makes a stronger impression...and I think that is good. He has made an excellent impression so far, and in time he will need to step back, so it serves to have him lead the pack, wearing out the opposition. When V.P. Harris steps into the spotlight alone for the debate and the election, her impact will seem more fresh, and not over exposed. Trump, by comparison is the epitome of over exposed. It all reminds me of LAPD tactical pursuit driving at the L.A. fairgrounds. In that course of instruction, the driver uses a lot of gas pedal, and very little brake. You also pay close attention t the springs loading and unloading on the respective sides of the car in the turns. Right now, Tim Walz is applying the gas, and Harris is minding the roll through the turns. Too much use of the brake ruins your pursuit. As long as the opponent is taking metaphorical fire hydrants and light poles, it serves Harris to just keep steady pressure on the gas. Apply the brakes when the pursuit is over.

In the medical community there is something called evidence based practice. If new information comes along and shows x way is better than y and they can back it up, our practice changes. She commitment to care and quality. Same values, different actions. I am fairly positive this is normal and expected everywhere. The only reason this is a thing is because once upon a time, somebody coined the term 'flip flopper' as something bad.

I'd say "turning the page on the last decade" is a subtle critique of no. 45, who ended his term at the end of the decade. Look forward, not backwards. Not that hard to catch.

I would’ve preferred it if Chris would’ve made a list of the things looking for in the interview before the interview actually happened. Then use his response video to discuss that. At this point because she showed command and cleaned up her interview based critiques of the past I feel like traditional media is going to focus on her more politician-like answers in this interview, generate more questions that it claims the American people want to know 🤷🏾‍♂️, and fan flames of “oh she isn’t talking to media enough” /ofmyrant

What's flip-flop? Did she go from banning fracking to drill baby drill?

I rather liked the remark she made about "turning the page" on the last 10 years. Conversely, I think she ducked the question on why the border bill didn't come sooner. Also, she didn't duck the Gaza War question, but didn't say anything new or useful there either.

her fracking answer was also fine. a lot has changed in the energy market since 2019. putin's war and opec cutting down output caused gas prices to rise. AI has greatly increased energy demand overnight. green energy can't keep up just yet.

she also said signed the climate bill and allowed fracking to remain. she has a solution. spend heavily on green energy, and infrastructure in the swing states.btw, swing state voters say she is better than trump on the economy

She is held to a higher standard than the nonsense Trump spews every time he speaks. He changes his mind to win votes and berates the interviewer if he’s asked to explain anything.

I didn't watch the interview but I gather it went relatively well for Harris therefore I have little to say on the matter. However, it appears that she presented herself much, much better than the rambling and incoherent Florida Orange, and that in itself is a plus for Harris.

2:55 If she was seeing him everyday, this isn’t really odd: it’s hard to see a change if you’re with someone all the time. It was only sudden to folks who see Biden occasionally on tv.

Because candidates always say stuff in the primary that they don't do when elected. Obama didn't support gay marriage until he did. The job opens your eyes once you realize the legislation part of it. She meant turn the page on the vitriol from the other side!!! Turn the page fromTFG who's bombastic and unfit!! I understood her answer perfectly.

4:21 Yes, she has been the VP for the last 3-ish years, but ever since Trump came down that escalator, the narrative has always been on what he's done, what his policy and approach would/ve been, etc. After this election, if she wins, he would be 82 when he could run again, at least in a legalistic, official capacity. We can, in the hopeful sense, move on and try to stop framing everything around Trump's perspective and just try to recover from his 4 years, which also includes the 3 Supreme Court Justices and all those Federal Judges out there he appointed.

I'd rate Dana's interview at a C minus. Truly - she didn't do much more than pose the Trump talking points as an interview. Kamala is right about turning the page on the last decade. She is talking about the pettiness and acrimony and absolute lack of joy brought to the political arena by Donald Trump. We Are Not Going Back To That is what Kamala Harris is saying.
