Minimalism is beautiful in that way that you get to decide for yourself what you need. I feel so empowered decluttering things I don’t longer need or love. Materialism always makes me feel powerless like a puppet on strings.

True.. Sometimes I feel bored of wearing the same clothes almost every day and I realized that's the only clothes I have because I was decluttering too many clothes, including gifts from my friends and my parents 😂

Talking about minimalism changing one's habits is definitely something I struggle with.. My husband has been a extreme minalist and I was a maximalist.. And after decluttering decades of my baggage.. It's reached a point now that we have finally sold our excess furniture.. So my husband has moved out his bedside table.. My issue is.. I'm not ready to let go of that because where do I now put his coffee in the morning? This is now where I find the habit of certain things must change..

ive ended up decluttering 90% i what i owned and i feel so much more free. I kept photos though, i ended up buying a photo album to store my photography/dont use social media outside youtube. i love looking through it every now and again. I changed my entire wardrobe into a capsule wardrobe, i keep very minimal decor and i honestly feel so free

That was also one of the things that I discovered when I decluttered sentimental items, that the memories still lived on in me! Great vid, Nicholas!

I discovered sentimental items are really about the memories, not the actual object. I got rid of all those items last week after taking a picture and I am so happy I did. Have a great day!

I just wanted to say that I have started decluttering and I realized as I was doing it that most things I was keeping were things my grandmother gave me or Inherited after she passed away. I realized that I was keeping it because it belonged to her not because I was using it. I made the chose to remember the memories of her using it and that I needed to let go. This was hard but I had to also do it because I needed to get closer after her death 5 years ago. She was no only my grandmother she was like a mother to me and more than that my best friend. But, it is time. I started and so far I have 5 pages and boxes of things I never use. While it is hard it is needed and I want to thank you Nicholas for giving me the encouragement that I needed. Please keep doing videos like this. I love your videos.

I agree that minimalism is a mindset rather than a number of items. It's all about your stuff actually supporting you rather than being a burden.

As all your videos, enlightening, motivating to inspire others. If those memories are living in boxes, drawers, corner of closets then they really aren't of sentimental value by any means (just my own thought). Memories live in our minds, memory cells.

I don’t consider myself as minimalist in full measure. I’ve been living in a mess for a long time. I decided to get my life together and after watching hundreds of self-improvement video/podcasts I came to conclusion that it’s impossible to improve myself without improving my space. I started to get rid of things that i was swamped by and refused to trash them because “I’m gonna use that”. While I was doing it I felt so powerful. Removing useless things became a tool to tidy my mind. I still have a part of hoarder in me but I also wonder “do I really need it?” all the time.

You are brave to embark on the minimalism journey. If we think about the possessions we rarely use, hopefully it becomes easier to let go of more.

I just moved into a new place 2 weeks ago and vowed to not take any unnecessary items with me. Left many things behind that I was holding on to for some sentimental reason, but truthfully, I had no use for them, just a mental connection. I am doing just fine without them and really feel proud to have only those things that bring value to me. Having everything in it's own place has really cleared my mind and I look forward to see where the journey is headed. Thanks for posting your vids.

thank you for sharing your reflexions. it helps to process :) i tend to keep sentimental items.. even if with distance, i realised, there is sincerely not really sense as i did not think of it or use it.. and what helps me to let go is to think that others will enjoy use love it directly :) so i feel happy and it helps me to let and i take a picture if really i feel to keep a memory but feel liberated after :) still keeping a minimum amount of very sentimental items that i use and love still :) in fact, a process that evolves, as we evolve :) it depends on each one needs :) no comparison to do, but inspiring helping each other in this process to get back our serenity freedom ;) and you are part of it sharing your very empathic messages ;) thanks from France ;)

I discovered I was keeping a lot of things that pulled me out of the present moment opposed to making my current moment better. I kept a lot of things for what they used to be. I realized when I buy less I can get the higher princed things (when I want them) I really like instead of 4 colors of the midrange things that I midrange liked. I also notice my style changed in some areas to things I had never expected (sometimes pinks and yellows when it had always been blacks and dark greens for Everything previously). Basically I was more conscious of the decisions I made because with less around each decision has greater value (to me) ♥️

i feel like decluttering has always been a part of me since i was a kid - very early on, especially between moves, i would get rid of/donate things i knew no longer brought me any joy, but learning more about minimalism definitely helped me take that a bit further. no longer am i letting things sit around because i "might" need them one day, and i quickly realized how downsizing helped with my anxiety a ton. in the possible near future, it's just going to be me, my PC and my kindle, and i think i'm ok with that lol. 😂

I moved 5 times in 5 years. Each time I downsized. I went from a normal one bedroom house to a single room. The room I'm in is furnished but apart from storage, the furniture I kept (a bookcase) and a few items that fold down or are small,, I have no other furniture. I don't think if I move again that I will buy or request any furniture apart from a table.
