I always wanted to be a marinebiologist. Either focusing on sharks or Orcas. But my mom told me Iwasnt gonna get a job with that education cuz there's too few jobs and too many people. But today, when im adult im strongly thinking of going for it and you tipped the scale for me. I'mma go for it :D

I can't express how comforting it feels to hear other people talk about their struggles with statistics and their abilities to overcome it LOL. As someone working on their PhD's in environmental science and soil chemistry, I can say that nearly everyone I've talked to seems to struggle with some aspect of statistical analysis, and learning to get joy out of overcoming those kinds of obstacles has been so integral to maintaining my own motivation to keep going! Can't wait for the followup video! 😁

You did not make it sound bad at all. Good info to know and all careers have certain elements of this. Math, non fun stuff and low pay at entry level. If you want to do it you are probably passionate about it and do not mind the negatives because it is something you love.

I really want to get into shark science or at least some field of marine biology. Unfortunately I live in Switzerland and we don't have an ocean. So although I can get a bachelor's degree for biology in one of the best education systems worldwide, I'll have to study abroad to get that master's in marine biology and tbh I have no idea how I'm going to pull that off financially. Pretty determined to get through it no matter what though. I'll work hard on getting that bachelor's for now I guess :) Btw I was actually really relieved to hear you struggle with analysis because although I'm actually pretty good at maths in general, I was an absolute catastrophe in statistics in the swiss version of high school. Made me happy to hear that it's definitely possible to get over that puddle with hard work :)

In college I studied marine bio & environmental science and many professors said “you don’t spend as much time as you would think out in the field, you’re usually in a lab or crunching numbers” and I feel like this holds true for many natural science fields. I am also a mathematically challenged individual and knew that the years of required Calculus would not be in my favor 😂😂 BA in Criminal Justice for Forensics & minor in Marine science, this could be used to compare DNA samples in areas of poaching, food mislabeling (I.e. “whitefish”), identifying populations in illegal fin trade, etc 🦈💗

Hell even in the case of Shark Week, I imagine they don't show you all of the absolutely annoying problems that come up with trying to get that "key footage".
