This falls into the same bucket of everything labelled "Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself". It doesn't matter if you're religious or not, one of the rules of the game is "Don't be a jerk to the other players". Just because we're all human doesn't mean we're the same. Men are better suited for physical work, women can get pregnant and may have to breastfeed. Ethnicities have different language and cultural boundaries and practices. Nationalities much the same with maybe laws being applicable too. The problem is that when people aren't the same, they view that difference as being less human, or more alien. Our institutions are generally bad at maintaining the concept of respect, and I think there are many disorders that make respect impossible to learn. Many leaders of the business world (where we spend most of our lives) are some of the worst people around, and we strive to model success in business in order to provide better lives for our children. Education is always the answer to every problem facing society.

These comments are pretty intense. I think feminist thought has been lost in the verbiage of the chronically online for a while, and it’s a damn shame. The idea of “men - do better” can be really hard to respond to with an open mind when you feel blamed for a lot of problems that you don’t see a direct connection to, I guess. I honestly understand it. Here’s the thing… Men deserve equity when it comes to mental health advocacy, being taught how to communicate their emotions and in not being maligned by doing so, in their rights as an equally loving parent to their children, in their rights to their own physical autonomy against all types of abuse, and more visibility for the sexual abuse of men because it does happen. I think it might be an easier conversation to have if it were more clearly stated that the social ideals that cause this damage are the same ones that harm women. Standing up against “toxic masculinity” is also standing up for men. Are women harmed disproportionately in comparison? Yeah, but that doesn’t change the impact of any of these negatives on the individual. A man suffers just as much from an abuse he can’t speak up against for sake of his manhood as a woman does from an abuse she can’t speak up against without being forcibly silenced. It’s just a power differential. Everyone is harmed by a social order that doesn’t afford respect to the equal humanity of every person. Full stop. When a man stands up against misogyny he’s not self-hating but demonstrating morality, empathy for women, and promoting a BETTER LIFE FOR HIMSELF AS WELL.The level of conflict over this idea is unbelievably stupid.

The closest thing we have for equity in admissions is basing them on scores & personal statements & interviews (where you can display passion/enthusiasm/work ethic/motivation) … it’s not perfect equity & still has a lot of bias built in, but it does help make up for inequities of resources that you miss looking just at scores & grades.

We are continually indoctrinated by radical feminism that masculinity is bad. Without masculinity, men are not men - we become subservient doormats. If masculinity is toxic, what is good masculinity? The answer is there is just one. Masculinity is a innate driving force within men to accomplish and provision for our families and communities. We have been confused masculinity is associated to bad men doing bad deeds. We forget masculinity is also what saves us from other men. From saving people out of burning buildings. To save drowning dogs from a sweeping flood. Building new homes for new families. There is no such thing as toxic masculinity, there is just masculinity. To take away masculinity means to take away men from society.
@user-je4eh9ht1k2 жыл бұрын
Masculinity was never bad. "Toxic masculinity" is its own category. It involves societal ideologies on what a man should be, e.g. lacking emotion and never sharing feelings because it's seen as "gay" aka feminine. It pushes the idea that anything deemed feminine is weak and lesser than, leading to homophobia, higher male suicidal rates due to lack of expressing emotions, misogyny. But why though. What are the driving factors/societal influences in which make men violent? The expectation to be strong, hard, tough, stoic, king of the block. @persephonestardust24982 жыл бұрын
So you're saying white men are the problem?
@hungrymusicwolf2 жыл бұрын
@@user-je4eh9ht1k For one, it mostly isn't social factors. reason 1: You don't want to fight a physically stronger person, so women are less likely to fight simply because there are less people they'd want to fight. reason 2: Personality differences: Women are on average higher on agreeableness and neuroticism than men (big five personality model), people high on agreeableness tend to prefer to avoid conflict so that answers at least a part. These personality differences tend to get bigger in a culture the more equal men and women are. Neuroticism is about negative emotion, I don't know if that would make you less likely to want to fight but I can see an argument there. The ideologies you mention are mostly just abuse and have nothing to do with masculinity, most of it is counter to what most men aspire to be in the first place. In fact one of the main idea's of masculinity is being calm and rational so aggression is the exact opposite of that. The aggression only happens when a man with already existing anger issues "fails to live up to these expectations", but the reason for the aggression is the previous anger issues and failure was only the trigger, which if you know people with anger issues can be anything ranging from their power plug didn't go in the first time to feeling disappointed and depressed about themselves. Men having anger issues has much more to do with past abuse, poor parenting, and untreated issues like ADHD (which is known to cause anger management issues). Masculinity, the aspiration to be rational, calm, and stoic, is the answer to these problems not the reason for them. These social standards have been developed over thousands of years to ensure that men are of most use to society, they're quite literally designed to minimize violence and remaining in control of your emotions and impulses. The people living for the past 2000 years weren't all dumb fools that continued to make problems worse without ever making it better, they knew what they were doing after thousands of years of collective experience. Inmates are an example of people who were WITHOUT masculinity, you can see this in the statistics of boys raised by single mothers as their crime rates are significantly higher. The fathers, and by extension the masculine role model, is the reason why guys AREN'T violent, toxic masculinity is literally the absence of masculinity or the presence of abuse and/or other underlying social issues that have nothing to do with it.

@@InMaTeofDeath Sure, there's definitely toxic feminity too. So if we look at what society deems feminine first, is someone that is typically dainty, gentle, small, pretty. Again nothing inherently wrong, as with masculine attributes, but it becomes toxic when it is hyperaccentuated and we put limitations on ourselves and others on how we act. Toxic feminity would show itself as women making themselves small and shaming other women for not acting small i.e. "that's not lady-like", "you're being bossy", "too loud". If we pick apart at what "lady like" is, we actually see that attributes are actually along the lines of being dependent, quiet and obedient, and even accepting abuse in order to not cause ripples. The pressure to be empathetic and selfless can also place burden on women by putting her needs last. It not only affects the way women act, but i believe it trickles into the way we look too. We need to be short, petite, delicate, etc. Women for centuries have contorted their bodies to replicate what's "feminine". Truth is, we all need a balance of both masculine and feminine. We both need to be leaders and carers. Tbh, labeling any human attribute into strict categories is dumb imo 🤷♀️ just aim to be a good, well rounded human being.

experiences? what experiences? yes. there was a history of oppression of women and even women were not considered citizens equivalent to men. it's true. But time has changed. the men who oppressed women had died long ago and men who are your neighbor are not the same guys who oppressed women in the long human history. Also "modern men" believe women and men are equal, they have no differences in potential. Then why do radical feminists such as you want to criticize "modern men" and hold them accountable for a history of oppression? if someone holds you accountable for things stolen by your ancestors who lived more than 200 years ago and asks to compensate the price, then, will you pay for it? I think it maybe not.

No. Nobody's born a mugger. (Hopefully, anyways.) I'd honestly like to just not pick a side without people scolding me for inaction. For its length I think it summarized things nicely! Now we just need more
@lalaalal78472 жыл бұрын
I would argue that homophobia roots from abrahamic religions which have an incredible influence on western culture. Those same "morals" are then reinforced by ignorant parents, resulting in both sexes displaying homophobic behavior in their respective, stereotypical way; violence for males and mentally for females. To blame just "toxic" masculinity doesn't solve anything, it just shifts the blame and wastes all opportunity we as a society can use to solve or at least reduce it from happening.

@@lalaalal7847 I imagine toxic masculinity can have many origins. Certainly perpetuated by religions, however those interpretations and teachings were transcribed by the men in power at the time. Equity = Communism; and we know how well this went... Equality on the other hand is great. Everyone should have the same starting ground and rules, but equity is literally the opposite. Today, I don't see how women are any more mistreated in the workplace and society than men are. All I hear is self-victimization by people who don't want to work and think they're entitled to anything and everything. You talk about male privilege, but yet women or rather radical feminists want more privileges, while still keeping their current ones.
